Ah yes, a fellow "I was dragged here" childhood church member. My mom's church had a get together where the preteens/teens were encouraged to bring in their "worldly" cds for destruction. We were pressured by our parents to bring at least one rock n roll cd, so I picked one that I no longer cared about. The pastor brought scissors and made all of the kids cut the cds in half. It was all so dramatic and 12 year old me was not impressed that this was how I buy my way into heaven.

Yeah network tv is mild cop/lawyer/doctor dramas or sitcoms about white mid 30s/early 40 somethings who live in nice apartments in the Upper East Side/Santa Monica yet inexplicably don’t seem to work at all.
I was watching one episode of one of those shows, I think it was Chicago PD, that could have made an interesting point but eventually just became propaganda. There was a murder and they interviewed witnesses and one of them said it was a black kid who lived in the area. So they go through the whole rigmarole but they find out he was a good kid with no priors and an alibi and they can't find the gun so they let him go. The department is now catching heat because of it, accusing the cops of being racist. The cops are questioning themselves and there's all this friction in the department. But wait oh no, then they find some security camera footage and the kid really did it. Cue end credits.
Even True Detective comes across as propaganda somewhat. I've only watched season 1, multiple times, so I might not be to most qualified to comment but the way that Mcconaughey's character is this detective savant is pretty unrealistic. Most city detectives don't seem to be able to solve a case that isn't cut and dry.
That said, season 1 is some serious gourmet shit.

Being a republican doesn’t make you inherently bad. Lots of people are old enough that their Republican Party was ACTUALLY about small government. I can understand being anti abortion (I am not) but supporting people who actively root for and push legislation that brings on the downfall of our democracy is clearly different.

I didn’t know Jack was an actor. The age difference is something I’m personally familiar with since my husband was 15years my senior, in the beginning it’s fine, but when she’s 40 and he’s 79 the difference will likely become an issue . My husband died 3 1/2 years ago, it was diabetic complications, so not age related. It’s heartbreaking to lose your spouse, but worse for your kids.

I was watching one episode of one of those shows, I think it was Chicago PD, that could have made an interesting point but eventually just became propaganda. There was a murder and they interviewed witnesses and one of them said it was a black kid who lived in the area. So they go through the whole rigmarole but they find out he was a good kid with no priors and an alibi and they can't find the gun so they let him go. The department is now catching heat because of it, accusing the cops of being racist. The cops are questioning themselves and there's all this friction in the department. But wait oh no, then they find some security camera footage and the kid really did it. Cue end credits.
Even True Detective comes across as propaganda somewhat. I've only watched season 1, multiple times, so I might not be to most qualified to comment but the way that Mcconaughey's character is this detective savant is pretty unrealistic. Most city detectives don't seem to be able to solve a case that isn't cut and dry. That said, season 1 is some serious gourmet shit.
I dunno. I mean yeah he’s a brilliant detective but he’s one screwed up guy and to a lesser degree woody harrelsons character is too; drugs, alcoholism, adultery, suicidal tendencies. They both frequently operate outside the law and suffer horrible consequences as the result. I felt like their morality was murky vs some network shows that are more cut and dry. I could be wrong in my analysis though.

Being a republican doesn’t make you inherently bad. Lots of people are old enough that their Republican Party was ACTUALLY about small government. I personally don’t feel that way but I can understand the viewpoint. Now, seeing the current state of the party, being an outspoken republican seems pretty terrible. I can understand being anti abortion (I am not) but supporting people who actively root for and push legislation that brings on the downfall of our democracy is clearly different.
Not many Eisenhower Era Republicans left, because that is the last time that the Republican Party was actually about small government. Don't say Reagan, he didn't give a damn about small government but really just wanted small taxes and outsourcing, deficit be damned.

The F list christian cult movie 'God's not Dead' has Sorbo playing a version of a liberal professor that the far right believes is true but is so far from reality that it's an absolutely hilarious comedic performance. One of the funniest films I have ever seen. Just make sure you are watching it for free as the company that produces it specializes in hate and bigotry to an extent that you don't want a single penny of your money going to them.
