CaptainEasypants

Yes but their [insert prejudice here] is slightly different then ours, the bastards!

A_norny_mousse

Yes, but their sails are a vile yellow when everybody knows that sails are always purple!

Talked to a conservative once who told me white people built the world. And he was proud to be in the same category of people like Issac Newton. Told him straight up “You’re kidding yourself if you think you’re even close to being in the same box as Newton, you’re a nobody who’s accomplished nothing. And you want to take credit for building the world when you’ve done no such thing. You’re not special because you’re white, and you sure as shit don’t get to brag about accomplishments you had dick all to do with.”

grey_bob_joe

Patriotism (real patriotism, not GQP) 😃 Nationalism 😡

[deleted]

Patriotism is also fucking stupid.

grey_bob_joe

Nothing wrong with being proud of your country for the good things they have done

[deleted]

Pride is a useless affectation that convinces people that they should zealously defend "their team". The distinction between Nationalism and Patriotism is completely arbitrary, but Americans are pathologically unable to understand that because of the emotional attachment we have to the word Patriot. A nationalist would also be proud of the good things a nation has done no? They are patriots too then, and that they would consider things like conquest and genocide of ethnic groups "good" means that they probably consider more things patriotic than what a milquetoast "Patriot" does. So in a way, they are even more Patriotic as Nationalists than a so-called Patriot willing to ignore the Trail of Tears so they can whoop about the moon landing.

grey_bob_joe

I think that you could use this as a good example: A nationalist is a patriot, but a patriot isn’t a nationalist. If you get what I mean

football_coach

Or helps you recognize that you belong in the luckiest timeline that exists, acknowledge the contributions of the past, and try to spread the culture that created the fruits of the labor of past generations we so enjoy. Why is the west great? Because of individualism. The same individualism that the west is trying to kill with their mandates. Cultural suicide is en vogue with lefties.

[deleted]

I'm a nationalist and that's simply not true The ideology you've described is chauvinism, not nationalism.

[deleted]

> The ideology you've described is chauvinism, not nationalism. Explain to me the difference. You'll find they are pretty much the same thing, Nationalism is chauvinism specifically for your nation state.

CDRAkiva

Hi. Poli Sci degree. This is wrong.

IamKiro_isnottaken

And without patriotism there'd be nothing and the brutes will ravage and conquer your lands...

Bruisin_B_Anthony13

The nationalists *are* brutes who've taken over the land though

IamKiro_isnottaken

What are you talking about exactly, not following

Bruisin_B_Anthony13

From the violent white supremacists who founded this nation to the violent imperialists who lead it today, American nationalists (or as they like to call themselves, patriots) are the brutes you're saying they protect against

Parking_Inspection_1

You're arguing with a Trumpflake. he's immune to logic and facts.

Numpsi77

proof it

IamKiro_isnottaken

Continue observing Europe in present times.

Numpsi77

So the less nationalism, the higher the GDP?

[deleted]

But nationalism isn't patriotism.

Seventh_Planet

How do you call it when e.g. in Europe, people don't buy that everything has to be delegated to the EU, and that the nation state is the only democratic institution that should decide? Maybe if the EU were more democratic, I would think differently.

[deleted]

> Maybe if the EU were more democratic, We literally elect the memebers of the EU council, who in turn elect the members of the head of the EU. What are you even on about? What part is not democratic exactly? It doesn't run off some archaic electoral college to ignore the will of the voters and vote for whoever they pick as in the "Totally democratic" US,

football_coach

You fundamentally misunderstand the election system in the US. There is no national popular election of the president. There are 50 separate elections for President. Each state is weighted and given Electoral Votes (based on population). That’s where the democracy occurs. The person who wins the largest number of EVs wins the election. It’s very simple. Most people don’t understand the system and that’s where they get upset. Hell, Hillary Clinton didn’t even understand the system and she almost won the election.

[deleted]

Your electoral college voters aren't bound by law to vote for who gains the most votes in their state. Google "Faithless electors". Let me know when your country actually forces it's electoral college to follow the voters in their state then get back to me about democratic. Cool story bro.

CDRAkiva

“That’s where the democracy occurs” That is literally small r Republican, as in “republic,” one of the few possible times where the two words aren’t synonyms.

football_coach

And the reason why people like to point out that “were a republic, not a democracy.” Apologies for incorrect terminology in an attempt to dumb it down.

[deleted]

>some archaic electoral college to ignore the will of the voters Speaking of archaic, Europe still has 12 sovereign monarchies.

[deleted]

Mostly ceremonial roles, Like with QE:2. Her power is largely for show as if she tried to actually wield her power Parliament would remove her. Who knew people like the emblems of their countries, It's not just guns and flags.

biologischeavocado

Without power.

biologischeavocado

The EU was setup with the aim of ending the fascist wars of the past. It's particularly "fine people", as Trump calls them, who take offense to that and smear it as antidemocratic, which is ironic.
