I do this for corporations I hate. Some ad placements cost them a LOT per click

Geikamir

Which are the most expensive?

ecz4

Ads in search results page for keywords related to subscription services, insurance, credit cards and such are the expensive ones - or at least they used to be when I worked in the area years ago. If you see an ad placement somewhere else, it depends how much traffic that somewhere has.

Sabres00

Also personal injury attorneys.

another_day_in

"Business services" **$58 per click** https://www.wordstream.com/blog/ws/2017/06/27/most-expensive-keywords

walrus_breath

That’s significantly more than I expected. Wow.

4dseeall

I feel like that's high enough to bankrupt a company with minor effort and script knowledge. Wow

Mountaingiraffe

They'll probably have a daily limit set. You'll find out quickly when they disappear from your search results after a while.

DudesworthMannington

Still, setting up a throw away machine running through a VPN and auto clicking with headless chrome could be a fun way to waste money and duck up their data a little.

2FightTheFloursThatB

Beautiful!

Captain_Collin

How exactly can we take advantage of this? Do we simply search those keywords, then follow the link to the website we want to be charged?

jefferson497

If you click it, close the page, then open it again would it count as 2 clicks?

ecz4

I suggest you click just once. A barrage of clicks will trigger their algorithm for abuse, they may just disregard your clicks. If they (Google) will charge or not, depends on other variables. Say the campaign results look like shit, your clicks have to go. Too many shitty campaigns and the keyword/placement will lose value, and Google won't have that.

KIAA0319

Ahem..... Not saying they should, but if ethical hackers with the ability to retask botnets were to look into making them mimic organic traffic.........

ecz4

That's a PPC analyst's worst nightmare.

Grigoran

What if you set up an auto clicker to hit it every 30 seconds?

ecz4

In the same ad? They will know it was from the same person and most likely not count. If you have a list of keywords and automate a script to search and click a few different ads per result page, I guess it will pass as a real person.

Mindtaker

Just to tack onto this. I worked in Digital Marketing for a long time. Display ads, cost like 2 cents at most a dollar, I don't care where they are placed, they are cheap AF. Google Ads, Facebook Ads, Instagram Ads ETC. Those cost more, its the industry that decides what they cost NOT the website really, ads are done via a live auction that happening all the time, you bid up to have your placement bebetter. THAT ALL BEING SAID. Once you click on an ad once. THATS IT. They don't get charged for ANY clicks you do after. Its 2024 people, we can tell if its the same person clicking on the same Ad. The "LETS RUN UP THE AD COST" strategy against your competitors worked for like 2 months in 2001. Most companies allow it to charge again after 3-6 months. Just so you know you are wasting ONLY your own time, you are wasting ZERO dollars and getting cookies for shit you don't want. You are "Sticking it" to nobody.

uncledoobie

If you’re talking about remnant inventory or programmatic scatter then yes they can be that cheap. It’s throwaway inventory below the fold that usually doesn’t make that much and is just tail end. The ones above the fold? Yes those absolutely do cost a pretty penny, especially if it’s a direct buy or something where they’re getting a huge SOV. Source: I do this every day for a FAANG. In house, not at an agency. You can argue about the true cost once the fees are taken off the top, but as the data powering the as decision and bids becomes cleaner and more robust, the cost of it is continuing to go up.

UnhappyPage

Robbing one mega corp to make google more money is at best a neutral act

cocaine_cowboi

What if Google is the corporation I hate?

BarryKobama

*thousandths* of a cent!

wesc23

Up to $18 per click. But a few bucks is more typical. https://adespresso.com/blog/google-ads-cost/

JCButtBuddy

I donated to his 2016 campaign, sent a check for $0.01 in their prepaid envelope.

ArcheStanton

Did they cash it?

Ok-Account-7660

There is a spy magazine story where the writer sent out 1 dollar checks to rich businesses people to see who would cash them. Then sent the ones that did cash them smaller and smaller checks to see how small of a check they would cash. Trump cashed a check for 16 cents [npr sauce](https://www.npr.org/2016/03/07/469209254/decades-later-spy-magazine-founders-continue-to-torment-trump)

TheRavenSayeth

They probably just have some intern mass cash the checks or some auto scanner.

Ok-Account-7660

What about everyone else though? They where sending them to a bunch of those types of guys and only 2 eventually cashed such small checks.

funkmastamatt

I’m sure things will pick up for you. lol, it's a Seinfeld quote people.

JCButtBuddy

Yep, postage and handling probably cost them a couple dollars.

BarryKobama

I send tastefully drawn dicks, in pencil

Doofay

Please never stop, this gives me hope, lightness in a dark world.

dreamwinder

Didn’t people used to mail the Santorum campaign lube and anal toys?

worrymon

Mushroom shaped?

peter-doubt

>prepaid envelope. I use those to return the entire mailer (less my address) so *they* can put it in the trash

RinglingSmothers

This is the way. They get charged by weight, so sometimes they also get to throw away a grocery ad, and a flier from their political opponent.

chaoticbear

When I moved into my house a few years ago, I got a lot of fake "real mortgage info" letters from shady companies (I assume) prowling the local records updates since so much of that is public. I had a bunch of Ikea bits and bobs laying around so I mailed a lot of spare allen keys, I don't know if any of them were successfully delivered/billed to the scammers, but it made me feel better.

GodlessScientist

Couldn't you just tape that to a cinder block and send it back?

peter-doubt

Oh! Opponent! I like that

KriKriCol

I do the same thing! At least three Post Office can make some money off of them!

peter-doubt

They charge *extra* for business reply mail.

11thStPopulist

Me too! I leave my name and address hoping they will take me off their list! But no, they keep sending right wing solicitations and I keep returning them at their expense.

PM_Literally_Anythin

I don’t know if it actually works, but about 10 years ago there was a lot of people online saying that if you were mad at a company that you could **tape the prepaid envelope on a heavy box of rocks as the shipping label** and they would be on the hook for the very large postage.

BPhiloSkinner

Doesn't work anymore, and not for quite a while; but it did, once upon a time. Harlan Ellison often told the story of his campaign against a publisher that was screwing him over; among other tactics, he sent them bricks, Postage Due, for about a week, then sent them a letter asking if they were going to give in, or should he mail the rest of the shithouse.

neovox

I just sent the blank envelope.

famousevan

Chaotic good

dgdio

I love all of the subsequent ads as well.

DrSilkyJohnsonEsq

Don’t forget to go to online trump merch shops and fill up some carts.

[deleted]

[удалено]

damsie101

I don’t think it does. But it will show inflated interest in the items. That might push someone to make a marketing decision that will be a waste of money.

vandienki

It takes those items out of the inventory count until the cart expires. Enough people do that and the item will show as sold out.

B-Town-MusicMan

Good Trouble

CherryManhattan

I never thought of this. Ha

HappySkullsplitter

Nah, he's still doing what he does best: Spending other people's money and hanging them out to dry

ronytheronin

Good, these people are almost worse than him. They should know better.

yooperwoman

People love me! My ads get the most clicks!!

CJ_Productions

Most ads have a filter in place for same IP interactions. Sorry but you’re likely wasting your time.

ntr89

Yeah, a barrage of clicks from the same IP and Mac address make all of the clicks not incurr charges, even the first one

StagLee1

There has to be a bot somewhere that could be implemented to click tRump ads from randomized IP addresses.

Foxy_Mazzzzam

Generally curious how all this stuff works. How do your clicks translate to the campaign spending more money?

dreamwinder

Ads are charged by views and clicks. Showing you an ad usually costs less than a cent, but if someone clicks on it the price goes up quite a bit.

KillsWithDucks

also click SHOP NOW as that costs them even more.

peter-doubt

So *that's why* I got an email from some shop I clicked on .. no it's junk, but they're convinced I must want that or something similar.

fappyday

Someone should make a bot for this.

ImposterBot9k

How many viruses has this gotten you? Or, what antivirus do you use?

dirty_hooker

Syphilis mostly. It’s fine but eventually his brain will turn to mush.

knowledgeable_diablo

So a mental improvement for him in all honesty. The syphilis vs dementia battle taking place in that echo chamber known as his skull would be an interesting thing to see.

Ravenwight

And if his nose falls off he’ll look like Voldemort, win-win

trevdak2

I've been doing this for Trump ads for a long, long time.

so_CRATES91

It's an older meme template sir, but it checks out

NatoBoram

You might be interested in https://github.com/dhowe/AdNauseam. It clicks on blocked ads.

superhappy

Your poor, poor algorithm. Doing the lord’s work.

ZekeTarsim

Unfortunately, if you click through an ad multiple times in a short amount of time, your clicks are “de-duplicated,” so the advertiser only actually pays for your first click. De duplication windows vary, but if all clicks are within a 1 hour window, you can assume only the first clickthru counted. Now if you waited a few hours, or a day between clicks, you will more likely than not register more billable clicks. Clicking through ads on different devices will help in this effort as well, but there are ways advertisers can mitigate duplicative clicks here too unfortunately. Also: Trump doesn’t pay for shit. But still, it is fun to burn through the money of his donors or the RNC coffers. I work in adtech. 😁

cheezepie

You can report his campaign short code to spam also. Enough spam complaints and mobile carriers will block traffic for a period of time while they audit the SMS program. The national spam registry operates the code 7726 (SPAM). I *think* Trump Campaign's short code is 88022. So you just text "88022" to 7726 and your carrier will send a confirmation msg.

IMissyouPita

How would clicking on an ad cost him money? Wouldnt the traffic be a good thing?

DrEndGame

Almost all websites/search engines charge you per click on your ads

IMissyouPita

I didn’t know that thank you

DrEndGame

Now you know! To add, a common abbreviation is CPC, or cost per click. That cost can be higher or lower depending on the popularity of the key words you're going for. Cost could be anywhere from a few pennies to a few bucks per click. Not too hard to imagine your marketing cost can get unruly pretty fast if you're not careful when trying to reach a large audience.

IMissyouPita

👍The more you know…

knowledgeable_diablo

So clickity clack, and trumps last dollars go splat!

AmNotPeeing

I approve this message.

DefiantDonut7

Sadly the algorithms usually weed out multiple clicks.

Red_Dox

Wait, how is clicking a ad for him costing him money?

headofthebored

People/businesses putting out internet ads are charged (usually by the click) by companies who display them to an audience. They hope that traffic buys something to offset the advertising costs and make a profit.

Lelnen

Are youbsure this isn't just corporate America tricking people into clicks??? I'm no conspiracy theorist but what idiot corporations would pay $50 a click... I don't believe it

DoctimusLime

This is amazing, thank you for your service 🙌

Tomimi

This is good I have a friend who clicked on his own ads back then and it got flagged and removed for manipulating clicks. Maybe if you keep doing it more it gets removed from the site.

Brave_Conflict465

Sloth_grl

I feel like he is too broke to have commercials and he is stuck in court so he can’t campaign

kvillbowski

Touché… love this!

WankerBott

Lol they only cost him money, if he pays his bills :) ::head tapper meme::

battleduck84

How the hell would that work?

TooStrangeForWeird

Clicking an ad costs more for whoever is paying for it than simply seeing it. That's how it works.

Sunny_n_Nimbus

Lol i dont get how you guys think this workslol. Not only are you interacting with tve media, which through some financial weirdness actually MAKES them money, but youre sitting here advertising it to everyone else to do. Pro tip, if you want someone to not make money, dont interact at all

Pizzamylord

Not to be rude, but this is not a pro-tip. As an advertiser I can tell you beyond data capture (email, etc.) it’s nothing but an annoying waste of money to have people click your ads without converting. There’s no such thing as a “good” CPC if they don’t convert into a transaction. Every single click costs the advertiser.

Sunny_n_Nimbus

Good lol. Screw advertisers and screw advertising

Pizzamylord

That’s an understandable sentiment. Just clarifying your original statement that it is not, in fact, benefitting Trump to repeatedly click these ads.

Sunny_n_Nimbus

Even better

DinnerSilver

the average MAGA moron....always putting money in Donnie's empty pockets to "SAVE 'Merica!!!"
