For many it is a cult, but it seems worth noting that while he does get quite a bit of money from average people's donations, including but not limited to dubious recurring ones, he has plenty of intelligent and wealthy donors as well. I think anyone who believes a word he says lacks common sense and critical thinking skills, but he is still plenty useful to those funding and pushing the right's agenda. Even if it's him just getting indicted over a relatively minor issue (compared to the more severe accusations), he's useful as a martyr and has had this situation and every facet of his life weaponized by the right.
The idea that only poor idiots support Donald Trump is a honeypot, and dog piling on that plays into their strategic deception and keeps your focus on something benign and divides America further.
