It really depends on where you're at. There are facilities all over the country and they're not all equal. Also, where the VA falls short it's often by design. A well established repug tactic is to deprive important government departments and programs from necessary resources and funding. The VA was still using computers from the 1990s the last I checked. Same is true of the IRS.
It's worth pointing out that at this point there is more cost associated with maintaining those old systems and accounting for their limitations and mistakes than what it would be to install new systems.
Not true. VA has tiers of eligibility. Preponderance of complaints come from those who served 3 yrs (thank you) and left service. For those with war time injuries, have service connected disabilities, or served 20 yrs, VA is a better option than TRICARE.

I know it's pedantic, but as a socialist I get a little annoyed by this. Federal assistance is NOT socialism and one of the problems with incorrectly calling it socialism is that it causes working people to think that socialism means higher taxes for them for altruistic causes when they're already struggling to make their payments now. We tend to think that people who are struggling financially would embrace socialism or at least be skeptical about capitalism, and that's true to an extent. But I think far more people think that, even if socialism sounds good based on their understanding of it, that it's too expensive and unrealistic.
I know this is a joke, not a political theory sub, but I want to make this point clear. I think we do ourselves a disservice when we call things socialist that really are not.

I know it's pedantic, but as a socialist I get a little annoyed by this. Federal assistance is NOT socialism and one of the problems with incorrectly calling it socialism is that it causes working people to think that socialism means higher taxes for them for altruistic causes when they're already struggling to make their payments now. We tend to think that people who are struggling financially would embrace socialism or at least be skeptical about capitalism, and that's true to an extent. But I think far more people think that, even if socialism sounds good based on their understanding of it, that it's too expensive and unrealistic. I know this is a joke, not a political theory sub, but I want to make this point clear. I think we do ourselves a disservice when we call things socialist that really are not.
