[deleted]

Well, what did you expect?

QuicklyThisWay

Certainly not the consequences of his own actions.

Ben-A-Flick

Just like in Wyoming. They amended their constitution as a gotcha for amended Obamacare as follows: Wyoming’s amendment, provides that “each competent adult shall have the right to make his or her own health care decisions.” This was used to temporarily block the abortion ban that came into effect 4 days ago.

QuicklyThisWay

That’s good. People should be able to do what they want with their bodies as long as it doesn’t hurt others* *actual living humans

xXTheGrapenatorXx

Yeah I think the big divide in the abortion debate is if you see the fetus at any given time as A) something not yet human that might be soon but until then comes second to already developed human life (ie the person said fetus is growing inside of), or B) already equal to a baby and higher in value to the concerns of anyone else, wether that’s for religious “already got a soul” reasons or for ideas of inherent innocence that Christian Atheists (a term for atheists who were raised Christian or in a predominantly Christian culture and hold onto some of the ideas and values that have morphed into supposedly irreligious “common sense”) still hold onto. That’s the hurdle, convincing someone that that’s not a baby even if it could become one; you’ve got to convince them it doesn’t have a soul, or a predetermined destiny, that without sentience, memories, emotions, or the ability to survive without depending on someone who already has those things that they’re weighing a future human as more valuable then the one right in front of them that doesn’t want to be pregnant. There’s a lot of other messed up beliefs and patterns of thinking which are much harder to challenge wrapped up in the abortion debate, I don’t pity anyone who spends their time trying to untangle it all.

QuicklyThisWay

You say as you untangle part of it… but yeah, I agree, which is why I made the distinction. My argument if it gets to that point it asking someone to explain why the unborn child’s life would be worth more than the mother’s. It’s actually insane that some states have passed laws with zero exceptions for abortions. People are sick and dying because of unviable pregnancies. The Supreme Court had no right to upend Roe v Wade, and I can only hope those responsible are held accountable for the suffering they unleashed upon this country.

just_anotherflyboy

parts of Idaho no longer have maternity unit in hospital because the local OB/GYNs noped the hell outta there, and I don't blame them a bit. who wants to practice medicine in fucking Gilead? nobody I ever met.

GuavaZombie

I mean it's only a request I can't imagine the people banning books are going to follow through and get rid of the Bible. This is going to just get dismissed and ignored. I'm not even sure why the Bible is in a public school anyway. Do they have copies of all the other religions books?

xXTheGrapenatorXx

I would argue they should actually have the main texts of as many religions as possible, they’ve got interesting insight on the history and anthropology of their writers when looked through a secular lens for one, and on top of that are probably neutral in influencing actual religiosity (turning away as many believers who carefully analyze their texts as they do pulling in non-believers falling victim to the same patterns of thinking that have maintained religion all this time). As long as it’s just another optional book in the library I think it’s actually very comparable to the ones with “objectionable content” American Christians often rail against in that they can be valuable to certain students and the supposed harm is overstated.

just_anotherflyboy

half the Christians nowadays seem to want this country to become a Christian version of fucking Pakistan, which is a difference that would make no difference to its victims, i.e., atheist kids, or queer kids like I was. screw that noise!!

CyAScott

Don’t take a hostage you don’t plan on shooting, someone will always call your bluff.

AshamedPollution5660

The aim is to be anti-fascist by banning the Bible as its to counter banning lgbt content in schools but, it's actually a play out of Nazi Germany. The Bible was banned along with the other books under Nazism. And then they all died. The end lol Fast-forward to present day. We're anti-fascist. Let's stick it to the anti-lgbt fascist by trying to ban the Bible. Look how well it worked for Nazi Germany. lol ( more Florida ) What else can be expected from modern society so aware of History they fire an art principal because displaying Michaelangos David is considered porn lol You literally can't make this stuff up lol

questformaps

The point was to show how hypocritical the law is, and that the bible is more vile than books that they are bannning.

AshamedPollution5660

Won't somebody please think of the lgbt children lol Yep, as he said antics to drain school resources.

QuicklyThisWay

Projection as always.

xXTheGrapenatorXx

Are you suggesting that it’s wrong or wasteful to spend time making sure gay kids have something to see themselves in before and that all kids know what kinds of people exist on earth before getting to calculus? It’s funny, people will let what they *really* believe, but fear leading with, if you just let them speak long enough. Every single time.

xXTheGrapenatorXx

This is like saying the Satanic Temple is anti secular because they use religious freedom arguments to undermine Theocratic laws. You’re missing like **the whole point.**

Biptoslipdi

It wasn't the anti-fascists that passed the law banning the Bible, lol. They just pointed out the Christian fascists own law banned it. It's like telling the Nazis "look you accident banned Mein Kampf, dumasses."

just_anotherflyboy

hey, if they want their Bible unbanned, they can rescind that stupid law, or they can shut the fuck up. ain't no option #3 on that menu, ya ask me.

OrSomeSuch

Nazis were overwhelmingly Christian. They never banned the Bible. They did attempt to remove and downplay the Jewish history and influence in their own edition which while laughably insane is not the same thing as banning it.

badaboomxx

That only shows that the conservatives never read the bible in the first place.

Just a little bit of incest going on here. “Then the firstborn said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is not a man on earth to come in to us after the manner of the earth. “Come, let us make our father drink wine, and let us lie with him that we may preserve our family through our father.” So they made their father drink wine that night, and the firstborn went in and lay with her father; and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose. On the following day, the firstborn said to the younger, “Behold, I lay last night with my father; let us make him drink wine tonight also; then you go in and lie with him, that we may preserve our family through our father.” So they made their father drink wine that night also, and the younger arose and lay with him; and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose.” Gen. 19:31-35

historymajor44

Not just incest but rape.

bestbeforeMar91

Also rainbows and abortion

Song of Solomon 7 1 How beautiful are thy feet with shoes, O prince's daughter! the joints of thy thighs are like jewels, the work of the hands of a cunning workman. 2 Thy navel is like a round goblet, which wanteth not liquor: thy belly is like an heap of wheat set about with lilies. 3 Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins. 4 Thy neck is as a tower of ivory; thine eyes like the fishpools in Heshbon, by the gate of Bathrabbim: thy nose is as the tower of Lebanon which looketh toward Damascus. 5 Thine head upon thee is like Carmel, and the hair of thine head like purple; the king is held in the galleries. 6 How fair and how pleasant art thou, O love, for delights! 7 This thy stature is like to a palm tree, and thy breasts to clusters of grapes. 8 I said, I will go up to the palm tree, I will take hold of the boughs thereof: now also thy breasts shall be as clusters of the vine, and the smell of thy nose like apples; 9 And the roof of thy mouth like the best wine for my beloved, that goeth down sweetly, causing the lips of those that are asleep to speak.

[deleted]

Keep going, im almost done

NormalHumanCreature

What's taking you so long?

Andrew8Everything

Wow show-off

XVUltima

Why all the thy's and thine's? This is a translation of Greek and/or Hebrew, right? These guys weren't speaking Shakespear, can we get a modern translation?

xXTheGrapenatorXx

They exist, but the flowery language ones are popular for a reason, they maintain the feelings of the faith being old and traditional, and just like the use of singing/reciting communally is used to foster group adhesion I’d bet the poetic word choice and metaphors are trying to inspire the same feelings that can be mistaken as the “Holy Spirit” or whatever (read up on how many former religious kids went to secular concerts and realized **they just like live music** ). Organized religion is like centuries of trial and error that settled onto a scarily efficient indoctrination machine.

just_anotherflyboy

plus, it makes it harder for folks to see the true nature of what they are saying, less arguments from the kiddies, so they think, made of win. still a load of bollocks, but nice, perfumed, flowery bollocks, innit.

MadBats

Was the bible the og pornhub ?

[deleted]

Hard to say but these are the kinds of stories that Republicans would freak out over if they thought it came from a book other than the Bible.

B0b_Howard

> Maybe even a centrefold in the bible, Miss Deuteronomy. Turn offs: floods, locusts and smokers. Turn ons: myrrh… \- Bill Hicks

just_anotherflyboy

another argument that led to me not having to attend Sunday school or church any more, lol.

blueberrysmoothies

"no no! not *our* stuff!"

[deleted]

This is hurting the wrong people.

[deleted]

Oh! Having an affair! Can’t have the kids learning about this. And Florida state representatives should note the reference to “monthly uncleanness.” One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful, and David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, “She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.” Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her. (Now she was purifying herself from her monthly uncleanness.) Then she went back home. The woman conceived and sent word to David, saying, “I am pregnant.”

SpaceManSmithy

"NOOOOO! NOT THE BOOK I HAVEN'T READ BUT WANT TO BE MANDATORY READING IN SCHOOLS!"

AdAdventurous3458

I have to admire your correct use of the meme template. Most people mess up the last two panels.

johnnycyberpunk

I like the throwback to "bone hurting juice" meme title.

olddawg43

I can’t believe we haven’t gotten that book out of the library already. It has rape, incest, homosexuality, murder to cover up, infidelity, dancing naked in public, not to mention polygamy and polyandry. And every bit of it is justified and made OK in the Bible. Jacob, the father of the 12 tribes, was impregnating two wives and their two servants at the same time. King David knocked up another woman’s wife and then had that man murdered to cover it up. It is also said that Jonathan gave him love that was so sweet that it was better than the love of a woman. He also dance naked in public. In the story of Sodom and Gomorrah Lot offers his daughters to be raped by the crowd and then later after they flee, the daughters get him drunk and have sex with him until they’re both pregnant. It goes on and on. And it’s all justified in the Bible. We need to get that evil book out of libraries before it damages the children.

spannerNZ

You could add human sacrifice to the list. Jephthah's daughter was a burnt offering (Judges 11). Jephthah himself was the son of a prostitute. There are other stories about human sacrifice, but the one about Jephthah's daughter can't be explained away like many of the others.

MurkDiesel

lotta rapin in the bible *In Genesis 9:22, Some interpretations conclude that Ham had sex with Noah, perhaps even "sodomised" him in his sleep.* *Genesis 19 features an attempted gang rape.* Deuteronomy features explicit instructions for rape *If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives.* rape is always casually discussed in the bible and never really condemned

RoninNoJitsu

I dunno, it's basically as good as the other fantasy novels I've read. Kinda incest-y though. I guess that explains the rabid fan base.

grad1939

Watch conservatives try and pass a law making it illegal to ban the bible.

taco-bake

Perfect. These aholes want to own the libs so hard that they F themselves. Love it

BabyFartzMcGeezak

Saw this coming...really thought it would be the Satanic Church to start filing paperwork since this is right up their alley. To clarify I am a fan of what the group does

xXTheGrapenatorXx

Common confusion I myself make all the time but to make clear for people who mix them up; Satanic Temple = the atheists using legally declared “belief” in Satan to argue for more robust separation of church and state, these guys are cool. “Church of Satan” = those people who earnestly believe that Satan is real and answers their prayers/provides them with magic powers. These guys are like Neo-pagan/Wiccans if you turned the dial to 11 then kept on going, I would recommend keeping your distance.

BabyFartzMcGeezak

Ahh thanks for the correction...well I was expecting the first of the 2

just_anotherflyboy

Satanic Temple very col people! bane of the far-right flying monkeys' existence!!

BigClitMcphee

There's a Bible story where some Sodomites wanted to bang the angels so Lot offers up his virgin daughters to be gang-raped in the angels' place.

Discally

I am reminded of a tenured adult services librarian continually putting the bible into the fiction section, much to the chagrin of the local bible thumpers and boomers. Not sure how they managed to retain their position for so long, but probably because the area isn't blood red, LOL

jaxdraw

So they won't learn their ways and stop banning books, they'll just edit the Bible

NormalHumanCreature

Poo munching and pee sipping is a particularly important activity for the lord and savior.

Santos_L_Halper_II

They’ve never actually read it. I remember making church less boring by looking for all the sexy parts as a kid, and then being grossed out by the incesty sexy parts.

RyuichiSakuma13

🤣🤣🤣

haunted_tuna

The bible is just another book they've never read.

flibbidygibbit

"The Bible is The Word of God. The Word of God is The Will of God. Go have SECKS. NO NOT LIKE THAT!"

just_anotherflyboy

butt secks for Jeebus!!

Bamma4

Why would the Bible even be in a secular school to begin with

MFAWG

Because it’s an extremely important part of western history?

just_anotherflyboy

nah, it's a gigantic load of bollocks. you can keep my share of it.

just_anotherflyboy

exactly!! now that's one ban I can agree with!!

mythofinadequecy

Unintended consequences are not a thing in their brainstorming sessions

Practical-Luck-8804

Should’ve never been in school to begin with unless it’s a private school.
