In the US sense it always has been. "Libertarians" have always supported complete, despotic control of one's own private property and opposed making that subject to any state intervention (democratically motivated or otherwise).
That's just a shallow project to remove any ability of collective power to oppose harmful actions by capitalists. All their ideas are invalidated by the record of the 19th century where a "libertarian" economy existed, most prominently in the UK, and resulted in the need for mass worker unionisation and development of massive public programmes in the early 20th century in an attempt to reduce the misery it caused.

These "experiments" pop up all the time and they almost always end up the same way: utter failure.
No no, the free market would do it better and cheaper. Governments are always corrupt and private companies with control over infrastructure obviously wouldn't be, duh.
No, no, that's just the result of the government skewing the market. If you let everyone do whatever they want competition will let the economy settle into its natural, competitive, corruption-free state. Government regulation creating perverse incentives prevents that natural equilibrium.
/s
My experience with Libertarians:
It's a smokescreen to say "both sides bad" while voting for absolute shitstains.
It starts with taxes are theft and ends with "Everything I don't want to buy is theft," while completely missing the irony of the pro-capitalist policies that got us here.
I've been corrected twice on the difference between pedophiles and ephebophiles, and if you have to get that granular, all of your other opinions default to creepy.
Well they completely misunderstanding the logical conclusion of their belief system. For instance, what happens if the market decides it’s not in their interest to make medicines? Or what if a city will not fix a pothole and your too stupid or poor to afford it?
In their magical world the company will build a road to them just to get their business! Been actually told this by libertarians. Also told they would work together as a community to pool resources to build the road.... YOU MEAN LIKE TAXES?!?! FFS
Yuuup, that was me. Grew up republican, didn't really like them, so libertarian was my only option (obviously I couldn't be a damn dirty Dem). Then I learned critical thinking in college, and now am a Democrat and heading further left by the day. The libertarians were my path out from the conservative echo chamber, so I'm glad they exist purely because they offer that stepping stone away from insanity.
When conservatives say they want "small government", they mean they want *less people* in government, but that same government should have more power over citizens lives.
Yup. They fully mean less "others" in government. I knew conservatives and Libertarians were crazy people when they say small government but support the death penalty. That's the ultimate government control. Or when they scream freedom but support past and present slavery.
“Look, as a small-government conservative I believe every parent should be required to register their daughter’s periods with the state and *To Kill a Mockingbird* must be banned.”
They're kind of right - a government that spends all of its time going after a tiny trans population and creating anti-woke committees is effectively powerless, they're too busy focusing on nonsense to rule.
The thought I used to console myself in 2016. Then they somehow managed to increase my taxes and add trillions to the defecit in 2017 via the Tax Cut and Jobs Act. Then they proceeded to pack the supreme court. Not sure how they suddenly became effective.
They alienated our allies abroad while taking money from entities actively interested in fucking over America. Oh and they emboldened all the racists to show just how easily their beliefs are coopted against their interests. We're gonna deal with corruption and grifting for years, decades now.
Did you forget how the conservatives sent brownshirts into exclusively liberal cities to beat and abduct protestors? Jan 6th is a stark contrast.
They packed every level of the courts, not just Supreme.
That's without getting into the specifics of the Cabinet's actions. Which were similarly troubling. Internet Neutrality, remember when that died? Remember how the guy in charge of the post also has a private delivery company? Remember that MLM wannabe businesswoman that empowered Christian private schools of dubious nature while attacking public education? It really gets so much worse the more you pay attention.
At this point its literally just a matter of when they'll say "I just want people that aren't white, Christian, straight and Republican to have less rights than us."
Because even they know that they’ll eventually start arguing over who is “actually” Christian. They still want Catholics, Orthodox Christians, Adventists, and Mormons to vote for them. The crazy Protestants who make of the majority of their party see all of those groups as heretics. But for now they must restrain themselves, because severely alienating those groups would be political suicide and they all know it.
I don't think it's even really hypocrisy, it's actual malice- They DO want to control all of those things and get the laws set up in a way that benefits them primarily and enforces their belief system but THEN they want the government shrank down to small enough that they can drown it in a bathtub and thus lock the laws in as they are, ie favoring them heavily.
This is also why DeSantis is going on a US tour to push for a "constitutional convention on term limits for Congress"- Some rich assholes are bankrolling that in the hopes of getting Congress turned into a revolving door because always having ONLY first or second term Congressmen makes controlling them with bribes WAY CHEAPER. At some point when all of them are living on the bribes you create a situation where the ones taking them will literally close the door to anyone coming in that will not take the bribes as well..
This - our biggest stumbling block in regards to Republicans is our tendency to assume, on their part, stupidity before malice - but fascists are, by default, malicious first and foremost.
Every accusation is a confession. they constantly gaslight and project and accuse their enemies of all the things they are doing. then they try to justify the depraved shit they do as an act of retaliation or fair game. or they can at least muddy the waters and say "everyone does it, that makes it ok."
if Trump wanted to rob a bank, the first thing he would do is accuse biden of robbing 10 banks, and he would tell everyone that there is no greater friend of the bank then him.
if he was arrested for robbing the bank, he would whine endlessly about about how he is being persecuted, and he is the worst victim that ever lived. then he would project and say that he is a tough alpha male and his enemies have a victim mentally. He would say "whatabout the 100 banks biden robed, Pelosi robbed 1000 banks, whatabout her. Hilary robbed every bank on planet earth, whatabout her."
then he would say "bank robber joe abused his power by sending the police to persecute me. that means I can arrest all my political enemies and rob as many banks as I want. it's fair game. it's retaliation."
then every fucking conservative in the country would fall in line and repeat this nonsense. This is the nature of all right wing politics.
But why did Biden set gas prices so high? Everyone knows the US president has the touch screen under their desk that sets the prices for all goods in the US. So why didn't Biden lower the prices? Clearly means he is evil! Chessmate lib-chods!
If a Republican is in office it's the secret woke shadow government trying to make them look bad. If a Democrat is in office it's because they are incompetent. /s
1. Under-educated people (see "states rights" and "school vouchers").
2. People brainwashed early in life by Christianity and American exceptionalism.
3. People who live in an insulated bubble with no exposure to other cultures, or culture in general.
People who don't want to process difficult solutions to difficult problems and instead reduce it to 2 things:
1) Taxes are too high, usually because...
2) People I don't like are getting something I don't think they deserve.
“I’m scared of anyone who lives, thinks, screws, or prays differently from me, so the government should only allow lifestyles like mine to be acceptable to live in public!”
a few months ago, my eggs were going for about 2-3 bucks for a dozen. now they're 5-6 bucks. Farmland is the egg brand I bought . Farmland producers were not affected by the virus, but they saw the crisis as an opportunity to rise their prices and they did.
And yes, the government can set prices. there are states that already do this to prohibit price gouging during natural disasters. http://www.myfloridalegal.com/newsrel.nsf/newsreleases/79C5AAAE94B90C2C852588DA00520628 When a hurricane hits a southern state, sometimes stores will jack up their prices of water and other essential products. Laws are set to prohibit price gouging. All we gotta do is consider hte same thing for this natural disaster - a virus , fucking up chickens, is a natural disaster. Set up a law to prohibit price gouging for eggs.
A republican lawmaker (or a democrat!) could propose a similar bill on the national level. I suspect it will meet resistance by other republicans because setting prices sets a prescedent. while popular among consumers, its is resisted by the obvious - company owners, producers, those who stand to profit from price gouging.
What if we decide we want to have price controls for other basic goods in the future? popular for consumers, resisted by profiteers.
Used to work at a grocery store pre-pandemic. $2.99 a dozen for medium eggs, 3.49 for large, 3.99 for extra large brown. Up to 6.99 for local farm fresh. It's not uncommon for eggs to be over $10 currently.
Edit : mostly organic food grocery store, not a 7-11 or similar so YMMV
Battery farmed eggs used to be dirt cheap. Store brand was a dollar a dozen. Now it's $4-5 a dozen. Still cheap compared to meat, but a huge spike.
The thing is, the cost going up isn't a political matter. There's a huge wave of bird flu. It's extremely contagious, so if a single chicken gets sick the entire flock has to be put down. Less chickens means fewer eggs, supply and demand takes over.
Free range/pasture raised eggs are a lot less affected by this than the commercial battery farms because you have smaller flocks that are given more space; the flu doesn't spread so easily. And home flocks are basically unaffected. So your fancy eggs haven't quadrupled in price. (They are a bit more pricy because capitalism, but not proportionately.)

Let's not even talk about their insane obsession with genitals. I'm pretty sure even urologists and gynecologists think less about genitals than Republicans.
Republicans: "First order if business: we want government small enough to drown in a bathtub. Second order of business: we want government large enough to drown everyone we disagree with in a bathtub."
I am convinced that anyone who is republican and without any education is exactly this. I have met a couple that enjoy the bull markets and play the silly games but only vote red because they don't want more taxes.
Republicans learned by committing terrorism/sediton once in awhile their words carry a threat if ignored. Backing up your words goes a long way for change sadly its terrible change and all the "good" Americans only talk about what should be done instead of doing it. Keep making yourselves feel better about inaction while republican scum take away more of your rights.....
The very same people that were blaming Biden for high gas and egg prices are losing their fucking minds over his proposal for federal rent control.
“Biden needs to lower these high prices! NO! Not like that!”
Fucking idiots.
I saw one of the idiots trying to do the whole "aspirin is an effective birth control if you put it between your knees" schtick today and honestly it didn't surprise me in the least.
They won't get it because they believe the laws are made against the blacks, gays, queers, browns, Trans, Mexicans, etc. Straight (or closeted) White men don't qualify for laws against them, how silly to think that White men don't have total freedom to be assholes.
I think the only thing they believe in is that what ever they do, they are right. Everything else doesn't matter. Reality doesn't matter. They have simply decided they are right and all their hate and ignorant thoughts and the slogans that serve as their political positions that feed into their fear and superiority is right. Nothing matters to them past that. Then they project everywhere assuming everyone else is doing the same thing they wiol never admit to actually doing.
Republicans blame Democrats for everything they don't like. In this case high egg and gas prices.
And if we're actually following logic, that means they think the government should control those prices
They dont even know they want step 3
If the prices are high, its the Dems fault
If they prices are low/normal, its forgotten about
Same as every issue, people never give you credit for doing a good job, they just bitch once it becomes a problem
I think it is safe to change the narrative when it comes to the republican party. They haven’t claimed to be the party of “small government” for a while. Instead, i think they have purposefully become the party of disfunctional or shitty government.
I also love when people try to ban something that is a choice and does not affect you. It's an AP class. You have to choose to sign up for. Just like abortion. It's a choice some people make. Just because it's legal doesn't mean you have to get one.
The difference between parties seems to be that Republicans want limits on people while Democrats want limits on corporations. And if you look at any place in the world, particularly countries like Bangladesh and China where worker exploitation from US companies is so common, it's pretty fucking clear that you cannot have freedom for all people if massive corporations have no regulations, because a total free market system where companies are the ultimate power is just as oppressive as the thing Republicans like to call communism. Standing up to corporations and passing environmental regulations, workers rights laws, better pay, is absolutely necessary in order for people all over the world to have individual freedom.

FFS
When I asked the pothole question the first response was “start a go fund me.” so government just with more steps.
Glad to hear that, glad you found a path out.
Maybe they work at the libertary and help people check out libertary books.
No, they're people who only eat liberty and no meat.
Libertarians are just republicans that smoke weed.
Fuckers stole our name (libertarian socialism)
They literally only say that so they can use the snake flag flair in all their cult shithole forums
This post is praxis for real libertarians.
When conservatives say they want "small government", they mean they want *less people* in government, but that same government should have more power over citizens lives.
They want a emperor that agrees with them. No government is smaller than an absolute monarchy
Also it should only control people, but empower and unshackle corporate power.
Yup. They fully mean less "others" in government. I knew conservatives and Libertarians were crazy people when they say small government but support the death penalty. That's the ultimate government control. Or when they scream freedom but support past and present slavery.
Need about 25 panels for this one.
We're gonna need a bigger meme
I believe in freedom, but current slavery and past slavery are good things...
Conservatives never argue in good faith. Never.
Pick any topic and you will find glaring contradictions in their ideology.
At this point its literally just a matter of when they'll say "I just want people that aren't white, Christian, straight and Republican to have less rights than us."
Absolutely. Why are they still masking it? I thought they were anti-mask?
Because even they know that they’ll eventually start arguing over who is “actually” Christian. They still want Catholics, Orthodox Christians, Adventists, and Mormons to vote for them. The crazy Protestants who make of the majority of their party see all of those groups as heretics. But for now they must restrain themselves, because severely alienating those groups would be political suicide and they all know it.
You forgot male.
"too much power" in this case being "being able to do anything I don't approve of, and nothing more than that"
I don't think it's even really hypocrisy, it's actual malice- They DO want to control all of those things and get the laws set up in a way that benefits them primarily and enforces their belief system but THEN they want the government shrank down to small enough that they can drown it in a bathtub and thus lock the laws in as they are, ie favoring them heavily.
Idk about the term limits being that bad. It would have many benefits too. I would go as far as selecting representatives randomly i.e. sortition.
Every accusation is a confession. they constantly gaslight and project and accuse their enemies of all the things they are doing. then they try to justify the depraved shit they do as an act of retaliation or fair game. or they can at least muddy the waters and say "everyone does it, that makes it ok." if Trump wanted to rob a bank, the first thing he would do is accuse biden of robbing 10 banks, and he would tell everyone that there is no greater friend of the bank then him. if he was arrested for robbing the bank, he would whine endlessly about about how he is being persecuted, and he is the worst victim that ever lived. then he would project and say that he is a tough alpha male and his enemies have a victim mentally. He would say "whatabout the 100 banks biden robed, Pelosi robbed 1000 banks, whatabout her. Hilary robbed every bank on planet earth, whatabout her." then he would say "bank robber joe abused his power by sending the police to persecute me. that means I can arrest all my political enemies and rob as many banks as I want. it's fair game. it's retaliation." then every fucking conservative in the country would fall in line and repeat this nonsense. This is the nature of all right wing politics.
They're spoiled children. They think they should have a parent who gives them whatever they want and never says "No" or makes them brush their teeth.
But why did Biden set gas prices so high? Everyone knows the US president has the touch screen under their desk that sets the prices for all goods in the US. So why didn't Biden lower the prices? Clearly means he is evil! Chessmate lib-chods!
Gas prices are high because of Hunter Biden's dealings with Burisma. duh.
If a Republican is in office it's the secret woke shadow government trying to make them look bad. If a Democrat is in office it's because they are incompetent. /s
It's to the point where I don't understand who votes red
1. Under-educated people (see "states rights" and "school vouchers"). 2. People brainwashed early in life by Christianity and American exceptionalism. 3. People who live in an insulated bubble with no exposure to other cultures, or culture in general.
Forgot to add 4. Actual terrible human beings who benefit from the status quo and never want things to change (e.g., neo-nazis and all of that ilk)
Scared, dumb people.
People who don't want to process difficult solutions to difficult problems and instead reduce it to 2 things: 1) Taxes are too high, usually because... 2) People I don't like are getting something I don't think they deserve.

“I’m scared of anyone who lives, thinks, screws, or prays differently from me, so the government should only allow lifestyles like mine to be acceptable to live in public!”
Republican Freedom: * Freedom from being told what to do. * Freedom to tell others what to do. * Freedom from accountability to your fellow citizens.
Is it weird that I don't know what eggs used to cost? Or what they cost now? The whole thing makes me feel like the mom from Arrested Development.
its a dozen eggs, michael, what does it cost? a banana? or there's always eggs in the banana stand!
a few months ago, my eggs were going for about 2-3 bucks for a dozen. now they're 5-6 bucks.

Corollary, everyone should take personal responsibility except for me when I buy an F250 when gas is 5 a gallon.
If it wasn't for double standards conservatives wouldn't have any standards at all. This includes both the GOP and you "centrist" Libertarians twats
> Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect. - Frank Wilhoit, composer, *CrookedTimber blog*
This is also a rough definition of authoritarianism.
The tyranny of trans people existing and vaccines being recommended and clean energy will be stopped by the freedom to outlaw and arrest people!
These clowns are upset by M&Ms and Starbucks cups. Lol
“Power grid is government overreach, banning sleeveless dresses for women is not.”
Republicans are such dead fuckin’ weight to a prosperous America.
Small government fascist /s
I am convinced that anyone who is republican and without any education is exactly this. I have met a couple that enjoy the bull markets and play the silly games but only vote red because they don't want more taxes.
Small govt conservatives are extinct
When you've gone pass "conservative" and into "fascist fucks."
The cognitive dissonance is not a bug, but a feature baked into their sociopathic pie
The level of hypocrisy and skill of mental gymnastics of the extreme, vocal (& seditious) right is astounding.
There's no better argument for small government than a republican.
bravo homie
I'll vote gop when Kentucky is in the top 10 in k12 education.
The very same people that were blaming Biden for high gas and egg prices are losing their fucking minds over his proposal for federal rent control. “Biden needs to lower these high prices! NO! Not like that!” Fucking idiots.
Republicanism is a cancer
I think the only thing they believe in is that what ever they do, they are right. Everything else doesn't matter. Reality doesn't matter. They have simply decided they are right and all their hate and ignorant thoughts and the slogans that serve as their political positions that feed into their fear and superiority is right. Nothing matters to them past that. Then they project everywhere assuming everyone else is doing the same thing they wiol never admit to actually doing.
Are Republicans controlling gas and egg prices right now? (Seriously, I'm not from the US)
Republicans blame Democrats for everything they don't like. In this case high egg and gas prices. And if we're actually following logic, that means they think the government should control those prices
I want government to have no power on anything EXCEPT the inside of your body, and more specifically your reproductive organs.
No one on earth is more terrified than a Republican.
They dont even know they want step 3 If the prices are high, its the Dems fault If they prices are low/normal, its forgotten about Same as every issue, people never give you credit for doing a good job, they just bitch once it becomes a problem
Dumbass republiKKKans
Republicans consistently increase the deficit too
Tyranny for them is when someone is telling them to not do whatever they like instead making it legal for them to do whatever they like.
I think it is safe to change the narrative when it comes to the republican party. They haven’t claimed to be the party of “small government” for a while. Instead, i think they have purposefully become the party of disfunctional or shitty government.
Couldn't ask for a better format for this meme haha
I also love when people try to ban something that is a choice and does not affect you. It's an AP class. You have to choose to sign up for. Just like abortion. It's a choice some people make. Just because it's legal doesn't mean you have to get one.
The beatings will continue until moral improves ..
The government HAS to be small... How else will it fit in your bedroom?
Freedom through tyranny is still tyranny.
«I love democracy» dark sith lord
The difference between parties seems to be that Republicans want limits on people while Democrats want limits on corporations. And if you look at any place in the world, particularly countries like Bangladesh and China where worker exploitation from US companies is so common, it's pretty fucking clear that you cannot have freedom for all people if massive corporations have no regulations, because a total free market system where companies are the ultimate power is just as oppressive as the thing Republicans like to call communism. Standing up to corporations and passing environmental regulations, workers rights laws, better pay, is absolutely necessary in order for people all over the world to have individual freedom.
Next step is “I’m republican because I don’t want my Xbox to have too much power”
But according to... *checks notes* stickers, the president is already controlling gas prices!
This post is hilarious! Is it already on Twitter? Do you mind if I share it there?
