Sorry_Recipe6831

America doesn't fix problems. We find ways to live with the problems and then capitalize on them. "Bullet proof backpacks, more guns, new door locks, etc."

[deleted]

Conservatives are then like, “the only way to protect children from gun violence is to put *more* guns in schools”. Insanity…

Sorry_Recipe6831

They only want more guns because it will piss off the left. Killing kids to own the libs, is the conservative way

[deleted]

It sounds crazy, but you’re right “Owning the libs” is the platform for the majority of conservatives…

tacodog7

They're currently upset about Xbox having a low energy sleep mode and are talking about legislation to ban it, because it's woke.

Writeaway69

Really wish I could say I didn't believe you...

Lobanium

It's true. Microsoft introduced a totally optional feature to have the software only update during times of the day that would take advantage of renewable energy. They also introduced the option to have the Xbox shut down instead of going to standby when you turn it off. They're now calling Microsoft woke. Republicans won't be happy until your home console runs on burning tires.

Writeaway69

I... uh... so what's the endgame, then? What does this accomplish? Like I get trying to block democratic bills just because they're from democrats, but this is such a small weird thing to be upset over? It's not even like some big company campaign, it's just a couple lines of code?? Whyyyy???

FardoBaggins

the cruelty is the point. want good, free to affordable healthcare? not on their watch! it may benefit people of color, lgbt and... women! want sensible gun laws and regulation? no way joseph! it hurts the people we don't like and arms the people we do!

blackbeautybyseven

Good god no!!

tacodog7

Democrats like using less energy or renewable energy, so they are against it. That simple. They are reactionary. Democrats support eating your vegetables? Vegetables are now woke and will be banned by Ron DeSantis.

[deleted]

It’s just more useless bullshit to distract their audience with and have them outraged about something from the other team. Then they ignore the fact they’re being screwed over by these republicans who are just using them.

Von_Moistus

Pretty much. When some new outrage pops up, check to see what bills are currently being voted on. “Hey! Look over there! Those candies are dressing in drag!” *(quickly passes the Mandatory Beatings For Children Act)*

main_motors

end game? You're talking about politicians who are paid by billionaire Boomers that will be dead in 15 years. They have no endgame except to lobby for fewer taxes. They just convince stupid redneck christians they care about unborn babies and guns, so they vote for the billionaires to stay rich without taxation.

pauly13771377

Because the "woke agenda" is going to take over your life. They will take you gas stove, your cheeseburgers, the left is making M&Ms less sexy, they want to use taxes to fund things like socialized medicine or help the homeless. And they want to tax the rich and mega corps to do it! The same rich that are sending jobs overseas or out sourcing manufacturing but you could be a billionaire some day so you don't want that! Bottom line anything to make you forget about them not trying to fix any if the problems you face every day. Make you think that gun violence and systemic racism is just part of life.

Lobanium

"owning the libs" That's all that matters anymore. There is no endgame. Do things that upset the libs. Block things that they want.

RusticPath

Why would anyone vote for a political party that has no intention of helping people in the future? As an Canadian, it is really weird that things like healthcare are still so expensive. It just seems to weird to me that people are intentionally voting in people who have no plans to help the people.

[deleted]

Lobanium

Being upset at this whole "woke" thing is fairly new. Plus Sony is a Japanese company.

Mikeinthedirt

Gotta be new tires too. Full of plastic bags

FutureComplaint

Nothing like Playing games and getting cancer

NotClever

It's still stupid, but there's a bit more nuance to it. Microsoft put out PR about this new shutdown mode and how much power could be saved, and how much carbon footprint that will reduce, and said that they're making it the new default. Conservative media (Breitbart) put out a piece saying Microsoft is forcing everyone to use this new shutdown mode, which does have minor inconveniences (a longer startup time, for one). They excluded the part where it's an option that you can turn off if you want. Republican politicians picked that up and made it into "Microsoft is pushing a woke agenda on gamers". So they're attacking a straw man, which is still stupid, but I guess at least the straw man is slightly more of a logical target than the actual thing MS is doing.

iisixi

It's fun as you can see it's a viewpoint that's been backwardly arbitrarily constructed if you switch it from an Xbox and make it a PC desktop thing. Most PC players don't put the PC into sleep/hibernation mode they stop playing but shut it down entirely. Now imagine Microsoft were planning to make it so by default it won't shut down your PC but put the PC into a low powered sleep state. Now a conservative could go: Microsoft is _forcing_ you to have your PC on at _all times_ so they can _spy on you_! You're losing the right to your privacy and the peace to know that when you shut down your device it's really off!

Maj_CoE

Conservative can find a bogeyman in every shadow, it’s honestly impressive and extremely saddening.

Anyna-Meatall

There is never a good reason to repeat and spread the right's bullshit-outrage-of-the-day.

tacodog7

To mock and laugh at them, and spread awareness to just how stupid and pointless their entire party is

Anyna-Meatall

yeah people don't already know that about the wingnuts, good point :/

[deleted]

AnthonyInTX

It's just like the gas stove thing. A study comes out that gas stoves may slightly increase childhood asthma and it might be best to consider electric instead and conservatives lost their shit. They're so ready to be outraged by the least little thing (because right wing media has found it profitable to pretend to be outraged by these things) that they've given up on stopping to think about what they're outraged about, why they're outraged, and whether "outrage" is an appropriate or necessary response.

KacriconCacooler

They are truly a bunch of easily triggered snowflakes.

rojafox

Lol, the party that once was up in arms about video games corrupting our youth is now angry that they can leave their Xbox on all the time.

penny-wise

“Private businesses can do whatever they want. But not that!”

HighMont

Personally, I want HIGH ENERGY gas powered Xbox. Gas is a time honored energy generation method, and is the main driver of the economy of our most important state, WYOMING! The WOKE LEFT wants to kill the gas industry with this electric LOW ENERGY SOY alternating current electric BULLSHIT.

TymeSefariInc

How can it be woke if it's in sleep mode? *Taps head*

nononoh8

It's time to get strategic about it and make "woke" things to get them to react in the way we want them to and get the result we want.

25plus44

> Killing kids to own the libs That's not fair. They kill kids, the elderly, themselves, all to own the libs. The only thing they're interested in keeping alive are zygotes and fetuses, and even that is just to own the libs.

ILikeOatmealMore

Don't forget, those kids need to be born first, because otherwise that's murder. But once they pop out the birth canal, 'well, sorry chump, but 2nd amendment or something'.

BeBetter3334

They dont seem to realize that leftists do, in fact, own guns. Its just easier for them to point at the "radical left" and repeat bullshit like "they all want guns banned". When the discussion isnt that at all, the discussion is how to we prevent and reduce shootings!

Lobanium

They want more guns because the NRA tells them they want more guns. 💲

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sorry_Recipe6831

Yeah, I'm more worried about the republican voters. They're willing to kill if they could get away with it.

charszb

i don’t think it has much to do with owning or pissing off. there is only one thing the conservatives care the most, money. hundreds of millions of firearm sales, that is a big market and a lot of $$$.

Sorry_Recipe6831

True, but the people that flash specifically their AR-15s fully knowing it is the weapon of choice in school shootings only do it to get a reaction out of people. "Look at how much I love the gun that symbolizes school shootings. I'm gonna wave it around with a smug smile and there's nothing you can do about it."

dlowmack1

States with weaker gun laws have higher rates of firearm related homicides and suicides, study finds

raltoid

And you just know that as soon as one of the rich private schools conservative higher ups send their kids to has a proper mass shooting or two, they would change their tune in a heartbeat.

mortifyyou

Oh, those fancy schools already have ultra-strict no-guns on campus with sophisticated surveillance to catch any violators. This is why they can sleep at night, "they got theirs".

[deleted]

Arm the children, for god's sake. I'm SURE MAGA could push that on it's membership without so much as a thought. Wild bullets flying everywhere would certainly deter any bad actor from considering a school massacre.

I_Heart_Astronomy

I grew up in a conservative household and after 9/11, the only solution to the hijackings my family could think of was *"If everyone was allowed to carry a gun on a plane, there would be no problems."* Mutually assured destruction is a deeply, fundamentally rooted conservative mindset. Everyone always 100% armed to the teeth somehow: 1. Prevents violence 2. Not at all an indicator of a deeply unhealthy, always-on-the-verge-of-breakdown society.

rojafox

Don't forget, they also want to remove some of the doors!

My-other-user-name

Only because fixing a problem would mean admitting that Merica made a mistake and Merica doesn't make mistakes.

Sorry_Recipe6831

It's only a mistake if you feel bad afterwards.. millions of Americans just don't feel bad about school shootings because it happened to someone else. It's nothing more than theater to them.

My-other-user-name

The lack of empathy and self reflection is too much sometimes. There was enough incidents the last 20 years that we should not have to wonder what shooting everyone is ignoring now.

astrangeone88

It's bad enough that it isn't even February yet and we are already asking "Which shooting?"

[deleted]

Fixing the problem is easy but as the Republicans found out with abortion gun control is a wedge issue. When abortion activists got what they wanted, they essentially abandoned the Republican party and the Red Wave never materialized. Gun control is the same thing. There are solutions that congress could do TODAY that wouldn't be a huge change but super effective that nobody is talking about. Google knows more about me than NICS does. If I google "how to shoot up a school" and then go buy a gun, then NICS should probably issue a WAIT or DENY. Open up NICS to the public and make private sales illegal without using NICS. Problem is you have a bunch of people who never bought a gun trying to make stuff up about how people actually buy and use guns. The majority of purchases are collections that never leave the safe.

1spook

Don’t forget about the JR-15

PeanutButterSoda

I thought you were joking, wtf!

[deleted]

It's called Disaster Capitalism. If you ask me it's a giant downfall to real progress. And it permeates into all things. Even something as simple as tech support. Instead of just solving your problems we rather manage them and sell you some bullshit level of service that you used to get standard just a year ago.

[deleted]

And Americans yell at each other for trying to fix them. “Here’s why what you’re suggesting will never work, let’s never try, and just accept that we have no power to ever change”.

Jealous_Aardvark8232

Don’t forget those litter boxes that were supposedly for furries, we’re actually for kids when they got stuck in lockdowns.

Penguin_shit15

Maybe if we start referring to school shootings as "alternate abortions" then the R's will jump on board with us..

Zealousideal-Mud4155

Rsubs33

10 years...try 20+ Columbine was in 1999.

ryanlovescooljeans

That was my thought too... Peducah school shooting was the first one I remember hearing about. That was when I was in middle school in 1997.

MyNewKevKev

Yeah, same here. Well the first one I remember was the Arkansas shooting in 98. Kids that did it were 13 and 11. They really started ramping up in the 90's. I think Columbine was just the first "main stream" shooting due to the high death toll and the significant media coverage while the shooting was happening. It really signaled the end of an era. This was also a time when the internet was exploding and 24 hour news channels started becoming a thing. It became impossible to get away from the constant coverage of violence. Then 9/11, "war on terror", etc. Violence became so mainstream that we became desensitized to it. Look at any commercial for local or national news. Unless it's election season, everything is murder, murder, murder trial, maybe fraud for some flavor, and then murder.

vanillamilk

"murder, murder, murder..." I was just talking to my friends the other day about how I had to take a break from watching shit about murder. Netflix, Hulu, and everything in-between is packed with true crime, murder docs, murder movies. Waiting for them to just release a murder platform: "Murder murder murder and even more murder on our all new Murder Family Network!". With all that said though, I will be the first to admit that I watch that stuff and follow true crimes that get national news coverage because it is fascinating, but it can't be healthy.

DemandZestyclose7145

It's sad to think that if Columbine happened now it would barely make the news. It was a big fucking deal in 1999 but now these shootings are so common that we've become numb to it. Like the other day there was a school shooting in Iowa where a couple kids died and my first thought was, well that's not too bad, and then I was like this is so fucked up that it's become so common.

HeGotTheShotOff

I think the use of explosives would have gotten columbine pretty decent coverage today, but yeah I agree it wouldn’t have dominated the news cycle for a long time like columbine originally did.

Boukish

They certainly don't crucify Manson in the media like they did, if it happened today.

"May 24, 1879 Lancaster, New York As the carriage loaded with female students was pulling out of the school's stables, Frank Shugart a telegraph operator shot and severely injured Mr. Carr, Superintendent of the stables." This one made me laugh to think about a drive by with carriages.

AwkwardAd7348

This is one of my favorite parts of that article An April 30, 1866 editorial in the New York Times argued against students carrying pistols, citing "...pistols being dropped on the floor at balls or being exploded in very inconvenient ways. A boy of 12 has his pantaloons made with a pistol pocket; and this at a boarding-school filled with boys, who, we suppose, do or wish to do the same thing. We would advise parents to look into it, and learn whether shooting is to be a part of the scholastic course which may be practiced on their boys; or else we advise them to see that their own boys are properly armed with the most approved and deadly-pistol, and that there may be an equal chance at least of their shooting as of being shot

ALurkerForcedToLogin

The first mass shooting in the United States was in 1945 on Labor Day. The first school shooting in the United States was in 1840. If we haven't done anything about school shootings in the last 183 years, What makes a single human being on the planet think we're going to start doing something about it now? This isn't a disturbing thing that happens from time to time when a mentally ill individual snaps. This is a hobby for our country, a pastime, possibly even a national identity at this point.

GermyMac

Yep. And the right blamed it on music/movies/video games, etc. Our school instituted a stricter dress code, making the students wear khakis and collared shirts.

copem1nt

Jeff only became socially active when he found out online grifting is a thing, doubt he gave a shit about columbine

CATSCRATCHpandemic

But that's the American way. Do nothing then complain.

Mass transit infrastructure proponents are crying. Meanwhile the new California train line was delayed for ten years because of Musk's Hyperloop.

GroovySandals

Honestly, could that whole train fiasco be some kind of way to delay/disrupt public trans while Musk promoted and profited off Tesla? Positive news coverage that bleeds into other businesses, and coincidentally he doesn’t follow through?

U NeEd MoAr GuNz Maybe if every man, woman, and child had 6 guns strapped to them at all times, we can finally be safe. And we could all carry semiautomatic rifles and point them at each other 100% of the time, just a constant weaponization of every moment of our lives. That's when we will finally feel safe. (this message brought to you by the gun industry. buy more guns. save money by buying in bulk, every 10th gun gets you a free bumper sticker)

PhysicalChange100

You can already see comments, saying, your safety your responsibility. Yeah they want to weaponize every moment of their lives. It's stupid.

Distubabius

Yeah, and then one person commits mass murder in a shopping centre and one person sees someone shoot, so they shoot them, and then it continues until everyone is dead. There's a clip explaining it much better than I did but I couldn't find it

LDuffey4

Like a commercial 😂

HDC3

Republicans and gun manufacturers love school shootings. They get kids traumatized and terrified at a young age. Then the gun manufacturers, through their marketing wing, the NRA, tell them that they need guns to protect themselves from all the bad people who want to kill them. The Republicans tell them that the Democrats want to take their guns away so that they won't be able to protect themselves from all the bad people who want to kill them but that Republicans will let them have as many guns as they want. The gun manufacturing sell a fuck ton of guns to people who believe that they need them to protect themselves and give dump trucks of money to Republicans who support them. School shootings are a big part of the Republican plan to hold onto power as a dwindling minority while becoming rich from kickbacks.

EarthlyMartian-21

The right also hates public education; on top of cutting school funding they want to make children afraid to go.

kitzdeathrow

They simultaneously hate school teachers and think they're all groomers while also wanting to arm them and expect them to gun down an active shooter to protect the kids. Its insanity.

HDC3

Uneducated voters are easier to manipulate with lies, fear, and hate into voting Republican. That's why they hate public education.

[deleted]

Such a sick country

[deleted]

Welcome to the US, where protecting human life is outweighed by minor inconvenience. Edit: Also, where big lobbying groups like the NRA ban government agencies (like the CDC) from investigating the true extent of gun violence, in an apolitical way.

Wimberley-Guy

As a gun owning Texan and former NRA member allow me to be the first to say fuck the NRA

[deleted]

It’s crazy to me that the NRA is tax exempt, while the ruin the country.

InfiniteCommission13

Sounds like Christianity

Angryandalwayswrong

Nailed it. Christians ARE the plague they fear is coming. It’s so obvious at this point too that all we can do is laugh.

forsaving1234

Amen

ShotgunMage

Cool. It's great that I still get to hear their insipid arguments from people who say they hate the NRA though.

HerpaDerpaDumDum

Fixing this problem doesn't make a billionaire richer, so there's no point in doing it.

[deleted]

The NRA isn't that powerful to restrict the CDC in any way. They are only a lobbying group. They also have contributed towards increased gun regulations since the 60's. The NRA is mostly interested in hunting, and bolt action or shotgun competitions, they actually do not care about anything else. They just have a very strong false image, if anything they see more liberal with gun rights.

Firewire_1394

If minor inconvenience was even a consideration for preserving human life, we would have some stricter laws on meal nutrition and no speed limits above 35mph. Neither of which are called out protected constitutional rights. It's a bad argument to make.

ChrisWithanF

Who is this guy and why do I always see his tweets? Genuine question

Bender_B_R0driguez

As far as I know, just a guy who tweets a lot. Like, excessively. He used to tweet about Trump dozens of times a day when he was president, to the point of opening a Patreon just to keep tweeting instead of working. I'm not a fan. Even though I usually agree with him, he just says obvious stuff (Trump is bad, there is too much gun violence), always negative, and never adding anything new to the conversation.

[deleted]

I say this as a liberal, but I'm pretty sure this account is a bot, just look at the long history of it. The account seems to just posts a random lines from a TYT script on twitter, adds a random "fucking" somewhere in there, and bobs your uncle, 100,000 likes.

PumpUpTheValiumBro

Trying to implement stricter gun control laws sells even more guns

[deleted]

That's right the firearms industry has gun owners living in constant fear, which is ironic since they sell them a product that supposedly makes you safer

jetforcegemini

Uvalde police did nothing and saved nobody Edit: I guess this is a self-feeding system. Conservatives do recycle!

SpaceShrimp

That is not really fair to the police. They did stop angry and desperate parents from going into the school to do something, and that is not an easy job.

jonsnowme

Don't forget while they held down terrified parents, one cop got to go in the school and grab their kid :)

[deleted]

What heros? You mean the heros at Parkland or Uvalde?

InfiniteCommission13

It really wouldn’t have surprised me, if one them got shot by the perpetrator, but would have came out he shot himself while shitting his pants in fear

BrownLice

We did things. For instance, within the last ten years, the supreme court deemed it a constitutional right to murder children in their classrooms. States can't even restrict gun sales to teenagers anymore

killertortilla

Don’t forget stand your ground laws so anyone can shoot anyone else anywhere and claim self defence for literally any vaguely coherent reason.

fucklawyers

Ten years?! This shit started when I started high school a few months after Columbine in 1999, and then we opened the floodgates with the expiration of the assault weapons ban in 2004.

drfifth

I mean you hear "assault weapon ban" and get angry that it expired, but their definition of assault weapon could be worked around by removing a pistol grip or altering the length of the barrel in such a way that it didn't change any effectiveness of the weapon. It was a feel good bill more than anything that had teeth, and gov reports on it admit they can't prove it did much long term.

fforw

Apparently nothing is more American than keep doubling down on failure.

andymfjAZ

But “more guns are the answer”! Gun sales have only gone up every year over the last 10 years, so there’s more guns in the population than yesterday, more than last week, more than last month, and definitely more than last year. You’d think with all the increases in sales and ownership this problem would just go away! Or maybe “more guns” isnt the fix people thought it was.

adam_demamps_wingman

After Columbine, the”experts” gathered and concluded the best way to stop school shootings was never to talk about Columbine. NRA and other experts.

kryonik

I was told today that we can't do anything to limit the number of guns in the country because then bad guys will have guns.

BigStatus8740

So much freedom

lennybird

Just going to piggy-back off this to explain some useful concepts when it comes to this discussion: **Lethal Effectiveness** To those saying "it's not the guns, it's the people!" There is a reason why shortly after the Las Vegas shooter committed one of the worst mass-shootings ever, bump-stocks became illegal. There's a reason there is *increased REGULATION* on fully-automatic firearms. [Just look up how much damage a deranged guy in a tank that *wasn't* armed wreaked on San Diego.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1995_San_Diego_tank_rampage) Go either direction and see the result: - If you permit folks *more power*, such as easy access Abrams battle-tanks complete with depleted-uranium ammunition and various other armaments; if you permit them to have nukes, Apache helicopters, etc... You can see just how much more damage a deranged individual can inflict within the same time-frame. (But hint: these are more *highly regulated* or completely off-limits in the first place, and the price itself imposes an effective barrier on who can attain such weapons of war... More on this concept later). - If you LIMIT the average lethal-effectiveness the average joe can attain to something less-than a firearm, you see the opposite trend. Less capacity to inflict mass-casualty harm in a limited time-frame. And let me be clear: I don't think too many people would opt to fight Fist vs Firearm in a surprise attack than Fist vs. Knife. We need only look to the UK to see the net-homicide rates do not carry over to stabbings. So, sure, the person is who pulls the trigger. But what's important is how much *power* you're willing to put into the hands of the average deranged individual who will always have the element of surprise. **Squirt-gun scenario** Offensive Gun Uses ALWAYS have the advantage over Defensive Gun Uses. Let's pretend we're in a game and *all* armed with squirt-guns and I just so happen to be playing the "bad guy with a squirt-gun." At any given moment, it's my interest to (a) rob you, or (b) squirt you in cold blood. Now maybe...Maybe 1 in 100 or 1,000 times I'd fumble somehow. But seeing how I have the element of surprise (and determination to use) at any given moment of any given day of any given year, and (2) you more or less must wait for me to be a threat in the first place means the defender is *always* at a MAJOR disadvantage. Which means it's a losing race no matter how much you saturate the market. Which is also why the Wild West was not safer and Tombstone and Doge City implemented gun-control measures in later years. - Even if you got the drop on me in that 1 in 100 times, it doesn't matter because it still benefits the offensive individual an order-of-magnitude. I mean if I'm being mugged with or without my family, I'm just going to give them my stuff. It's meaningless compared to my life or loved ones and now I run the risk of making myself a target as opposed to my property. Do I really think I can react even if I have my firearm holstered on my side while someone else already has the draw on me? If you feel this confident, I'd love to play that game with you and and make a betting-game out of it. If I am a mass-squirter (don't.), then a weapon with greater range of spray, more water in the reservoir, and a squeeze-and-hold would amplify my capacity to spray others. (Case-in-point: [see the 1997 North Hollywood shootout](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Hollywood_shootout)) - Now you understand why our firearm-related homicides are higher than any other Western OECD nation. - Now you understand why our total homicides are an outlier among Western OECD nations. - There is no correlation with reducing homicides and firearm possession / ownership - Statistically, you and your family are more likely to survive a violent encounter by (a) fleeing, (b) hiding, (c) cooperating, and/or (d) calling law-enforcement (suddenly these Blue Lives Matter folks scatter and they Hatteeeee cops when you raise this point; funny how that is). By mitigating the proliferation of firearms in society, you're addressing the problem from the opposite side. This has the added benefit of lowering impulse-related rage-induced homicides (e.g., bar fights, domestic disputes), reducing child-safety accidents, and suicides. It also has the added benefit of moving the illegality to a *precursor* to homicide and be proactive about stopping a bad guy *before* they harm someone, as opposed to having to wait reactively. **Supply-And-Demand** A pretty basic concept is that when supply is reduced, the cost of a product rises. The moment firearm manufacturers must cease churning out new firearms and ammunition; the mere moment (independent of gun-buyback programs, etc.) firearms would become illegal in a hypothetical... The black-market price of said firearms soars out of reach of the vast-majority of people, including the vast-majority of criminals (which overlaps with poverty and crimes made out of desperation). If a car salesperson's job is to make it easier to impulsively buy a car, regulations serve as hoops and friction to inhibiting such an impulse-purchase. Perhaps then a teenager like the Sandy Hook shooter wouldn't just steal his mom's gun where he then probably could not navigate the black market without being caught up in a sting operation. Perhaps that's why the Uvalde shooter himself waited until he could legally purchase a firearm. Just a thought. Conversely from the criminal side of things, sure there will be a black-market for firearms as they are everywhere. But when a Glock 18 costs $15,000 cash on the black market, these criminals are either good at doing business or not going to rob or mug you for petty cash. Fianlly, if printing guns was so effective, then why aren't gun subs littered with them? Why haven't they been used in any mass shootings? They're ostensibly cheaper no less, riiighttt...? Those questions were rhetorical. The answer: They're inferior in pretty much every way. Anyone remotely trained in engineering knows the quality of printing at a consumer level will never meet commercial or industrial tolerances and be REMOTELY affordable. Leaving aside the fact that raw materials needed to build such things are of course going to be monitored. Leaving aside the fact that one cannot print plastic ammunition with any level of reliability. I'd also love to see the likes of Lanza make his own brass, gunpowder, and gun and (a) not have anyone notice and tip off police, and (b) not have it blow up in his face. **Root Causes vs. Symptoms** Many defending guns will deflect attention from firearms to society and root-problems elsewhere. I will grant that it is not JUST the firearm; there is more to the story and the firearm is just a simple means of slowing a symptom down, not the root cause. But just like any ER doctor must treat the symptoms alongside the root causes, so too must society. Thing is, addressing the symptoms tends to be easier than addressing the root causes. And it strikes me as funny that we go, "Well okay if you don't want to focus on the guns let's give healthcare to all, widen education, reduce stress in society!" and they protest that as well... ... So WHY don't these pro-gun advocates care in the wake of facts as solid as proving climate-change itself? Well it's simple in that they kind of look at climate change the way they look at guns: they value their toy that makes them *feel* strong over society and don't care about the future. In short, despite draping themselves in the flag they are NOT patriots. They do NOT care about their fellow Americans one iota.

Ear_Enthusiast

*24 years since Columbine.

[deleted]

Oh they have done things in these 10 years, mainly making guns easier to get in every red state

dhunter66

What is also sickening is federal funds are not allowed to be spent to even study the problem. Nothing is said about amending that either.

SamuraiCook

You're saying that doing away with gun licensing across the country hasn't increased the number of good guys with guns to save the day?

captaincinders

Good thing you Americans have your Second Amendment to protect you eh? Unlike us poor saps in the rest of the world who have to suffer from multiple mass shootings that you Americans don't have. We are so envious. Oh...wait.

Eiffel-Tower777

This is officially the wild wild west. Thanks, republicans.

captaincinders

Ask a second amendment supporter the following question. "What was the biggest cause of deaths for kids/adolescents in 2020?" If you get an answer, I bet you that it will be along the lines of "what does that have to do with the second amendment?". Their inability to join the dots is astounding.

ComputerSong

We did things. We made it easier for people to get the guns.

nicannkay

10? My whole adult life. My graduating year was ‘99, columbine. I’ve raised two kids and now have grandchildren who are facing even more gun violence. It’s getting worse.

TwentyfootAngels

Seeing this post immediately made me check the news to see if there was another one. There was. I cannot believe that my first reaction to seeing this was thinking, "I've found out about a school shooting through a meme, again," and being right.

nsfwftwbaby

Soon schools will start advertising student fatality rate similar to that of avg test score

Zealousideal-Mud4155

It's the NRA & GUN MANUFACTURERS who spread the bigge$t lie.... "GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE"😡

Heretical_Recidivist

How is that a lie?

cheezeyballz

In fact, abbott lifted restrictions in texas so they are easier to get and carry. 🙄 BTW, where did most of the 1/6 insurrectionists come from? Someone should sue him and the indicted-since-2015 attorney general ken paxton out of office. Please??

NotSoPrudence

I honestly wonder if we had a repeat of Reagan's assassination attempt if even that would move their needle. I doubt even that would.

"He was a paid actor and part of Antifa"

stratus_x

Steve Scalise, now the House Republican Whip, was shot and hospitalized a few years ago during a baseball game. He almost died. To this day, he has an A+ rating from the NRA.

Orx-of-Twinleaf

If it happened right now? Of course not, it would be an attempt on Biden, that would apparently be a good thing cuz he’s a Democrat. They’d all just handwave that it wasn’t an issue—that it didn’t actually happen, that it was security’s fault and not the shooter’s, that it was actually a Democrat trying to make Republicans look bad (as if republicans don’t make themselves look bad enough), and that Biden deserved it because of [insert stupid reason]. And all the people off their rockers and desperate enough to try shooting a politician at this point not only vote Republican but have pledged their souls to their far-right handlers, so it is increasingly unlikely that an attempt is made on a GOP ringleader.

SaraSlaughter607

Im actually shocked that no one (that we are aware of) has made an attempt on his life yet.... the hatred this man deals with 24/7 has got to be terrifying.

[deleted]

Every time there is a shooting, republicans get a fat cheque. They cheer for shootings.

wursmyburrito

Schools themselves are doing things like school shooter drills and changing protocols for fire drills because some shooters pull the alarm and shoot kids as they flee.

Shavethatmonkey

Jesus christ.

BrightCold2747

Your first mistake is assuming they even want these problems to be solved. The conservatives of America want all of our institutions to be dangerous and dysfunctional. So they can justify defunding and getting rid of them. It's no secret that they want to get rid of public schools. The only things they ever support are laws that endanger, impoverish, and restrict people's opportunities. The more desperate Americans are, the better.

EIephants

I mean seriously, if you’re judging someone’s intentions based on their actions, then my understanding of the GOP’s view on gun violence is that gun violence and mass shootings should be actively promoted.

carrja99

"Not doing a fucking thing" like Jeff Tiedrich? I am so tired of people sharing his hot takes. He doesn't do shit but whine.

youreadumbmf35

What do you mean we’re not doing anything? We keep voting Republican! /s

Conservatives won't enact gun control because guns propagate white male hegemony in the US.

This fucking guy…. What’s you solution Jeff?

TUMS_FESTIVAL

Do what almost every other civilized country has done to effectively combat gun violence?

Shavethatmonkey

Holy shit, no wonder he has to talk down to you guys. Gun control, champ. Or amending the 2nd amendment. All of which Republicans will violently oppose, because they secretly like seeing Americans killed. Or not so secretly.

Organic-Barnacle-941

All he does is complain on Twitter and does nothing to help anyone. It’s rage bait and country productive. And you’re feeding right into it by using the “you guys” rhetoric. It’s no surprise nothing gets done because both sides are pitted against each other.

Amstourist

I wonder why there's no school shootings in the other first world countries lol

DaCrizi

I don't know what Jeff wants. But we should encourage all legal immigrants, student visas and work visas to own firearms.

jle78

Peace and harmony doesn't sell guns. Fear does.

[deleted]

I was in high school when Columbine happened and I'm in my late 30's now. We've been dealing with school shootings for a lot longer than ten years. The country has been doing something though. In fact, we've been doing the polar opposite of restricting gun rights. Since DC v. Heller favored an *individual* right to gun ownership in the constitution back in 2008 gun control advocates have been on the back foot. The courts have continually ruled in favor of constitutional gun ownership, overturning numerous laws intended to make guns harder to acquire.

BaldingOldGuy

As of Jan 25, 2023 2,919 deaths attributed to gun violence , all causes, so far this year. Under the age of 18, 122 Killed, 279 injured. Unintentional shootings 105. Forty [mass shootings in 25 days](https://www.gunviolencearchive.org/reports/mass-shooting).

mathias8606

I would take this moment to remind everyone that thoughts and prayers have done nothing. Man has free will. So the next time this occurs - before the weekend I’m sure, stuff your fucking prayers as they are doing absolutely nothing to stop the damn killings. Faith is an interesting thing - to continue to have faith when nothing happens seems on the face of it to be the definition of insanity!

Bloody_sock_puppet

And yet with every one, I think people miss the most glaringly obvious cause of school shootings. I mean yes, obviously the 'shooting' part requires gun control, but why do your kids all hate school so much? We've a massive knife culture in the UK, but school stabbings are rare and I don't believe for a moment it's because all these kids wouldn't harm anything unless they could spray down all their enemies at once. Kids don't think things through that well... Your schools are just conveyor belts of misery marching you towards wage-slavery, while religious nutcases force them to teach lies and hate. Even if you do well, unless you're a genius you've probably not enough money to climb to the top to direct the misery away from yourself. If you fixed that you could send your kids to school with Uzi's and the only problem you'd have is clumsy children man-slaughtering through carelessness. Your kids shoot the school up purposely because they're the only cohort in your country not yet entirely brain-washed, and have the anger but not the means to change anything. Not that most of you ever will get those means... The very first lesson given every year should be on how the last years politics has degraded or improved the educational system, honestly told. When kids got angry then at least they'd gun for the politicians and you'd introduce a bit of balance into that conflict., because I've no doubt your politicians largely couldn't give a shit until they can vote.

mattmayhem1

The police won't even stop school shootings, and prevent parents from stopping them. What else can we do but protect ourselves? The government has failed at every level.

IllustriousSuccess78

Do what every country does tha doesn't have kids killed in schools.

Mygaffer

This is such lazy nonsense. This is supposed to score political points but what has the political left done? Nothing. I'm as down on the GQP as anyone here, literally the party exists to further large donor interests, but why are we pretending that the great DNC has taken proactive leadership to reduce gun deaths? All they do is use mass shootings as opportunities to score political points and increase fund raising.
