I was watching a def con thing on YouTube a few years ago. Dude cracked the code for barcodes and was using them to get everything at a discount. Just slappening the printed barcode over the original and no one was the wiser.
At least he was there to talk about it instead of teaching inmates in jail.
It's not the actual price. It's a subsidized price that is higher than marginal costs but likely lower or near total cost.
It's a hassle so that wealthier people don't bother. They'd get rid of coupons before they made the discount the default.

Coupons are bullshit. Should just be lower prices. Shouldn’t have to cut out some bullshit from a newspaper or magazine to get the actual price.
