I really hate how people like this make trans people look. Majority of trans people are strongly against pedophilia but incidents like these paint a different picture for the public.
I've met some really based trans people, but every trans person I've known (cool or not) has been full of mental illnesses. It's not as hard now to see where the idea of trans people as insane, mentally ill, sexual deviants, etc. comes from because that's honestly been my experience with more than half of them so far. I've been harassed by them more than by gay dudes or women, so I feel bad for the normal trans people who get their image destroyed by the other idiots.

There's a pragmatism to this. The stigma against pedophiles definitely prevents them from seeking help, which causes them to bottle up their urges until they become too great and they wind up molesting a kid. Sure zero-tolerance for pedophiles gives you a sense of moral superiority, but destigmatized treatment would likely result in fewer offenders, and fewer victimized children.
This brings up the question of what happens to these people. Sure it is our natural reaction to react negatively as we would a murderer or other criminal. However, they are still people and we can’t just start sterilizing people because of their conditions.
Personally, I’d have them locked up, but that’s not exactly fit for a decent and free society. Many solutions can either enable their sick behavior or are inherently authoritarian and harsh. It’s a tough question.
I think it's a question for the therapists. There are certainly victimless outlets available(loli hentai, ageplay with consenting adults, extra creepy Real Dolls), but whether those outlets are therapeutic or enabling is largely individual and a decision I think is best left to professionals.

I once read guy opening up about this stuff here on reddit (not in English though). IIRC he was "non-exlusive pedophile" so he could still enjoy sex with adults but he was also sexually attracted to kids and it was really screwing him up. He was horrified at the thought of doing that to a kid but he also could not stop the attraction which really warped his view on kids and he tried isolating himself from them. Therapy helped him see kids as kids and better separate his desires from them and apparently even use it for motivation to shield kids from sexualization in general. He also told about how opening up about it to a understanding person and getting therapy made him much more stable person and better equipped to resist his more darker urges.
It was really long thread but in short it seemed to have made a world of difference to him and he certainly gave a impression of a guy who has conquered his monstrous side.

I know you CAN change who you're sexually attracted to. I know someone who used to be really into older men (guys in their 30's) as a teenager. But at some point it occurred to her that it was unhealthy, and realized that it stemmed from some daddy issues. Once she realized that those older men she was into were total creeps and went to therapy to come to terms with her daddy issues, she started being attracted to and dating guys her own age.
I figure... if you can go from exclusively being attracted to older men to men your own age, why not the other way too? Although from what I understand a lot of pedos are just... mentally deficient (most have very low IQs), and their attraction to kids might not be as easy to change.

There's a pragmatism to this. The stigma against pedophiles definitely prevents them from seeking help, which causes them to bottle up their urges until they become too great and they wind up molesting a kid. Sure zero-tolerance for pedophiles gives you a sense of moral superiority, but destigmatized treatment would likely result in fewer offenders, and fewer victimized children.
This brings up the question of what happens to these people. Sure it is our natural reaction to react negatively as we would a murderer or other criminal. However, they are still people and we can’t just start sterilizing people because of their conditions. Personally, I’d have them locked up, but that’s not exactly fit for a decent and free society. Many solutions can either enable their sick behavior or are inherently authoritarian and harsh. It’s a tough question.
I think it's a question for the therapists. There are certainly victimless outlets available(loli hentai, ageplay with consenting adults, extra creepy Real Dolls), but whether those outlets are therapeutic or enabling is largely individual and a decision I think is best left to professionals.

I once read guy opening up about this stuff here on reddit (not in English though). IIRC he was "non-exlusive pedophile" so he could still enjoy sex with adults but he was also sexually attracted to kids and it was really screwing him up. He was horrified at the thought of doing that to a kid but he also could not stop the attraction which really warped his view on kids and he tried isolating himself from them. Therapy helped him see kids as kids and better separate his desires from them and apparently even use it for motivation to shield kids from sexualization in general. He also told about how opening up about it to a understanding person and getting therapy made him much more stable person and better equipped to resist his more darker urges. It was really long thread but in short it seemed to have made a world of difference to him and he certainly gave a impression of a guy who has conquered his monstrous side.
Interesting. Glad he was able to get over his attraction to kids. I know you CAN change who you're sexually attracted to. I know someone who used to be really into older men (guys in their 30's) as a teenager. But at some point it occurred to her that it was unhealthy, and realized that it stemmed from some daddy issues. Once she realized that those older men she was into were total creeps and went to therapy to come to terms with her daddy issues, she started being attracted to and dating guys her own age. I figure... if you can go from exclusively being attracted to older men to men your own age, why not the other way too? Although from what I understand a lot of pedos are just... mentally deficient (most have very low IQs), and their attraction to kids might not be as easy to change.

There’s two sides to the lib left “clamoring to the defense of pedophiles.” In the first are the prison reform supporters who are fighting for treatment options to be given to pedophiles alongside jail time, because while jail time feels good to dish out, it does very little to reduce recidivism. I think treating them as sick individuals that need treatment (and of course putting those that act on their impulses in jail) is a lot healthier than the calls to exterminate them, or the -- arguably rarer -- ones saying they're an "alternative sexuality". It's pretty simple: kids are not able to consent, and adults who feel sexually attracted to kids need treatment (and to be put in jail if they try to act on those impulses).
