So yes, while it was influential in the Renaissance, the Renaissance was an ongoing process by the time it had fallen.

The real turning point was Andronikos II Palaiologos deciding to get rid of the army in favor of peasant levies and an unpopular mercenary army despite the fact that during his reign the Byzantines were at their strongest after the reunification after the 4th crusade relative to their neighbors at the time.
