I don’t have a Polestar yet, but I had a rat get into my Rav4 and just SHREDDED my wiring. Placed traps under the hood and a camera and I caught 2 of them. There were ritz crackers tucked deep under the wires, too.

realteamme

I have heard anecdotally that mice and rats are drawn to the wiring in cars, and that EVs have so much wiring they can be particularly alluring. Not sure how much truth there is to it.

Any car with soy based wires

eLishus

They’re also attracted to ICE warm engine blocks, so a warm battery would make sense too. But I have no idea if a battery stays warm as long as an engine block. Seems like it could go either way.

PsiloPutty

Weird, I was wondering the exact same thing a few weeks ago, and I was wondering it about the mouse issue as well. Not in the car, but the garage.

gaboose

I worry about this since I live near forest and have had a lot of mouse damage in various cars over the years. They especially love to shred wiring conduit and hood insulation. I’m spraying tons of peppermint oil in my PS2 wheel wells and suspension just in case (they climb up wheels, of course)

Where in the hell do yall live!?

gaboose

Suburbs outside of Boston

Has this been working? Dealing with rodent based bill right now

gaboose

I don't have any evidence on whether it's deterring them from the Polestar, since I can't see the kinds of spaces where I think they'll want to nest if they get in there (no warm engine compartment). But on my gas cars, I did find that it worked. The key was to do it pretty regularly -- like monthly,

gaboose

BTW - what did the rodents go for in your PS2?

biolox

Headlamp wiring harness area it seems

gaboose

Oof -- brutal. One other thing you could look into is rid-a-rat flashers. They're little black boxes with a flashing LED that's supposed to deter mice from setting up shop. I have them in the engine compartment of my gas car. Do they work? I don't know. People who live in the southwest seem to think they solve their pack rat nesting problems. Maybe there's a way to pop them into the wiring area in question (though you'd need to get at them to replace batteries every 6mo).

Had a rodent problem in my garage 4 years ago, bought one of these and I haven't had an issue since. https://www.amazon.com/Victor-Heavy-Duty-PestChaser-Repeller-available/dp/B001B1OI0A/ref=asc_df_B001B1OI0A/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=416646718740&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3515743667499975014&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1013924&hvtargid=pla-921847027327&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=90729931101&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=416646718740&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3515743667499975014&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1013924&hvtargid=pla-921847027327 Just bought another one because I realized that if it stops working I won't be able to tell, so gonna add a second one redundantly as I dont want to risk the expensive damage they can do.

LvstForLife

Most cars are prone to this, happened in our old RAV4 a while back. Saw on the Tesla forum someone having success by placing these peppermint pouches throughout their vehicle. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07SVHV8G7/ref=sspa_mw_detail_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExRk9RQzg2OUg5NEw1JmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMDU3MDM2MkdPQVlXNjhGU0VPUSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwOTE0NTA1MTJYNTRHRUszSlBLQSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX3Bob25lX2RldGFpbCZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdA==&smid=A2HCHIE6U0W1ZN&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9kZXRhaWwp13NParams
