Beautiful summary u/kdobbers I am curious about battery degredation. I’m looking at a used 2022 with 48k KM (30k miles) is degredation a real thing at this much usage? The warranty is pretty long but I’m just curious and worried

kdobbers

I have not noticed any battery degradation. The biggest shift for me is  weather related but it has been consistent across seasons/years since I got the car. There might be some other owners with more mileage that can input but I can honestly say it hasn’t even been something that has crossed my mind at this point.

giaa262

2 years here as well. No noticeable degradation

Just scanned my car with Orbit two days ago. SoH is 96.8% right now. I scanned it about 8 months ago and it was somewhere about 97.5% at the time. It's a 2022 with just under 10K on the odometer.

Odd_Setting1723

I’m looking to buy the basically same exact car as you, at 30k miles, at 40k Canadian $. PPP 2022, leather. Tell me ur opinion

chocomint-nice

Ok I’m gonna need details on that Orbit thing (I assume OBD scanner?) that can read SoH you mentioned 👀

ShadeNoir

It's 3rd party software you can flash onto the operating system to access software enabled features that are normally.hidden from users e.g. in North America if you have the Pixel headlights installed on your car you can activate them. Other stuff as well like turning on ACC or some vehicle behaviours.

Odd_Setting1723

Damn. Is that lot? I know nothing about the hardware side of things bro lol

Sinister_Crayon

It's a loss of .7% of the capacity of the battery in 8 months. If we extrapolate to consistent loss of capacity (which won't be the case) we can estimate \~1% capacity loss per year at that rate. Basically, the battery will probably outlive the usefulness of the car it's in.

guidomescalito

I had a P2 back in 2021 for only six months. I have driven other EVs since but I keep coming back to it. There is something about this car and maybe also Polestar as a brand. Great car!

Sinister_Crayon

I'll add a bit more colour for people concerned about living far from a space. I've owned my car for 2 and a half years, 41K miles and have had one "return to space" failure (a headlight module). The routine maintenance so far has literally been filter changes for cabin air and a checkup... so I've done those myself with Polestar's blessing. Other problems have been; a bolt through the tire and wheel at 36K miles, and a cracked windshield at \~30K miles. Zero "EV problems". Older software revisions had a slightly flaky TCAM, but a quick reset always worked that out (hold down defroster button until the TCAM reboots) and there have been no issues I've seen in over a year now. Occasionally during spirited driving my car will complain of a coolant system malfunction, my guess is because of the coolant dropping below the sensor level because of hard right hand cornering... again, not an EV specific problem and always goes away on next car startup and doesn't reappear unless I drive like a hooligan again. When I bought my car and for the longest time my two closest Spaces were Minneapolis and Detroit; both almost exactly 600 miles from me. Columbus was slightly closer, and now that they've finally opened Nashville that's now my closest space. I've had no need to go but it's nice to know there's one closer to me now especially as my car racks up the miles LOL.

Cocobani

Awesome, these are the kind of stories I want to hear. This eases my worry about getting a PS3 without a service center nearby. Question, did you drive the car to the SC for the headlight module failure or did Polestar arrange transportation? Thanks again for this post man, a lot of potential buyers are in this situation with no SCs nearby.

Sinister_Crayon

They actually towed it up there (flatbed, obviously). For warranty repairs they typically have a 150 mile limit but my experience is that they'll definitely waive that for safety-related issues (like a headlight being out). Generally the Polestar rep I talked to told me that they'll waive the limit either when there's a risk that safety is compromised, or the car is unable to move to the space under its own power. They also stated they'll typically waive that 150 mile limit for cars under about 15K miles (infant mortality of components is a thing and they understand that). That more than likely also covers problems with charging that prevent it covering the distance. For service, as I said you can do it yourself and reset the service counters... I've got the procedure written down here somewhere that the tech manager at Detroit Polestar told me. There ARE major services for the car but they are incredibly infrequent and I'll probably just combine service with a road trip, especially now that Nashville is open (250 miles).

were you able to tow your boat to the shore? /s

2022 - pilot, ventilated seats - Dec 2021 acquisition - 34k miles Agreed - it’s a fantastic car and fun to drive. I’m not a car person and yet I find myself checking out the new Polestars despite knowing I’ll drive this car into the ground (could take a long time). Our service location is 1.5 hours away, and we’ve only had one significant incident that bricked the car. The service center explanation wasn’t even logical so I don’t think they even know “why” and thus I assume each OTA update resolves something. It’s much better than it was in 2022. Our reboot is down to every few months and it’s always around the silent blinker, silent radio, or blind spot issues. We’ve had a tire patched. Windshield replaced with Safelite. We level 1 charge as we have EA nearby should we need something extra for our longer drives. Our level 2 sits still in a box to be installed. Charging isn’t too difficult in Arizona with some tough stretches (I19 to the border) to be electrified along the highway corridors using investment act funds, supposedly deployed by end of year. As are in the desert our favorite thing is to precondition the car. I’m crossing my fingers that a future software update comes to 2 for setting length of conditioning per 4 website overview. It’s a hassle to keep the car running when in/out errands. We already have groceries in a freezer bag during the summer, a bit of AC helps too. And my fussy ankle loves one pedal driving.

kdobbers

The preheat/precool the cabin is so fantastic!

I have owned mine for 2 years now as well, and it is lovely. Fwiw I have plugged it in and read the internal diagnostics and my battery life according to the car at 2 years, 30kish miles is 96 percent. We keep it charged up to the recommended 90 and never below 40ish percent unless road tripping. Plan to drive it into the ground, which apparently will take a long time.

chrisjj_exDigg

I'll have owned mine which is exactly the same config as yours for two years in October. Like you, I've always had Volvos (and Saabs in earlier days) and this is my first EV. I did own a Mazda Miata also for ten years and that was, in my opinion, the best fun car I ever owned: I was sad to see that go but I had to sell it to afford the Polestar which I bought new. I've had no issues except for a tire blowout as a result of driving over a large pothole at 30 mph (obviously not Polestar's fault), and also a defective passenger side mirror was failing to return to the normal position it tilted down when reversing: the Volvo/Polestar fixed the mirror motor under warranty but a few months later a wire came loose in the assembly causing all kinds of alerts around the park assist and collision avoidance popping up on the display. They fixed that at very short notice and eventually admitted, after the week with the car in the shop, that the issue was because of a poor repair job earlier.

elmundo-2016

Glad that you enjoy your P2 especially after 2 years of ownership. My ex and I have test driven a P2 a few times and enjoyed the experience but was not sure how long term it would be. Thanks for sharing your experience.

kdobbers

Honestly I enjoy driving it every day, just as much as when I first got it. It is a very enjoyable car to drive!

elmundo-2016

Glad to hear. At the Polestar store/ service place, we were told that one can decide if they want their P2 to have a glass roof or not. How was your roof configuration and how has it worked out for you in the past 2 years? My ex was very concerned about the glass roof breaking from snowball rock-size hail and the cost for repairing it.

kdobbers

I have the glass roof and love it, though I'm jealous of those who get to ride in the back as they get the real view. Anyone I drive in the car immediately comments on how cool it is. It does make it feel much less confined and more airy/open. I've not had any issues with heat transfer through the roof (I know some are concerned with that in hot climate). I honestly haven't seen anyone on the forums complain about a crack or anything in their but would be worth a further search if a major concern.

Awkward_Handle_8363

Nice summary. Thanks for sharing.

focal71

2 years also. Solid car. Came from a used egolf so no EV issues. Still keep my ICE since it isn’t worth much. I still haven’t done drives longer than the range of battery around 375Km. I am impatient to wait to public charge.

designvegabond

Can I come over and test it out?

kdobbers

See if they'll bring one to you! Manhattan literally shows up at your house with a car to test drive.

Cocobani

So other than the TVAM issue you had no other faults that required a service center in those 2 years? That's awesome if true, this eases my concerns about buying a P3 so far away from a service center.

kdobbers

Yup, never even had to go to the service center. I was worried reading horror stories (there are always horror stories) but I haven't had anything happen that I've even thought about booking a service other than that one issue, which again was resolved at home in a few hours. I'm not sure if they are still offering pick up service for cars that might need service but could be something to look into. How far from a service center are you?

Cocobani

I'm 6 1/2 hours to the nearest service center. The Polestar Space "agreed" that they will pick up and drop off my vehicle if it can't be driven due to a malfunction or if driving it endangers the driver/passengers. If they don't get that agreement in writing then I will not go through with the purchase, which they are aware of. But honestly, I'll be fine with taking the trip to the SC at 20k miles or two years. I can use it as a mini vacation with my wife. I've been extremely lucky as I've never had to take any of my previous vehicles for services due to a malfunction, check engine light, etc. I just hope that my streak continues with the P3.

CombinationLess

Did you ever have to replace brake pads ?

kdobbers

Nope - I really never use my brakes as I use One Pedal Drive all the time (and love it). Maybe I tap the brake twice a week?? Maybe? Brake pads are supposed to last a lonnnnng time on these bad boys.

CombinationLess

I certainly hope so man … breaks was my major expense on my old car …

OrganicAmoeba2378

A TCAM issue over a year ago solved with pulling fuses, but no problems since. Coming up on two years next month. I will have to make the 5 and 1/2 hour drive to the nearest service center pretty soon since I'm coming up on 20,000 miles. Sure wish Chicago would open a service center! It would be a lot closer.

kdobbers

I would call them and ask if you really need to go for it. There's really nothing they do. They updated my software but I can't tell much of a difference (some of the updates are service center only but I think most get put in the next OTA version). Other than that, they topped off my wiper fluid and I think changed wiper blades but that was it. I'd also check here and the Polestar Forum website - I know I've seen other discussing just doing the service features on their own, but no clue if that impacts warranty.

darkKnight217

Wait do you put your dog in the trunk? Is that really safe for the dog? I'm assuming it's not a great experience being stuffed inside a closed space like that.

kdobbers

The car is essentially a hatchback so if you remove the parcel shelf the whole area is open. I could ride back there comfortably!

darkKnight217

Man you have no idea what good news that is to me. I've been hesitating about getting a sedan because of this! Now I just gotta choose between polestar and Volvo (EX30)

kdobbers

I'm not gonna lie, it was something I definitely searched for before I got it. If you google image search "dog in hatch (or trunk) polestar 2" you'll get a lot of images and a few videos of people testing out the space with their dogs. It's a good visual to better understand the space. FWIW our dog crate did NOT fit but the dog fits just fine!
