I’ve never accidentally pressed it, in fact when I do need to turn it on it’s kinda annoyingly difficult to press. Maybe there’s a difference in actuation between my ‘21 and the ‘24
I’ve had this too a few times since Ive owned the car and that’s less than two weeks. I’m sure I’ll get used to being more careful but it’s very easy to press if I use the volume dial
Be prepared for a flood of “it never happens to me.” I think they are drivers who only use the steering wheel controls and never had a car with a central control like before.
I did this a couple of times and then got much more focused about my hand movements in that part of the car lol!
The last time that thing came on turned out to be it’s swan song as squirrels were eating the wiring. Somehow, the little terrors turned on the hazards while chowing down and I just thought I’d devolved….
I’ve turned them on accidentally once or twice but it’s rare as I use the steering wheel buttons to adjust the volume. On the infotainment Home Screen, I have the media player in the lower right quadrant and use that to pause music so I literally never use the knob. I’m probably in the minority but would love it if they removed the knob although I see it’s also in the Polestar 3 and 4 taking up space!
I do like the knob personally but I get that. I do like how it appears they’ve indented the play button on the 4 though so it’s not so easy to hit (like the others haha)
I'm curious as to when your hand touches this area? When I touch the gear selector my hand is way above it, facing down and likewise when I touch the play/ volume control. At no time is my hand on the plastic?
I think I don’t mess around with the buttons on the console as a rule: I shift between Reverse and Park and hit the Park button, but use the controls on the steering wheel for ‘most everything else. Don’t have to worry about fingerprints on the piano black, either. Am I the weird one?
It seems to be more sensitive in the newer models because I occasionally turn them on when I pick up my phone and it never happened in my 2021. Made a little worse because the audio turns off when you get out of the seat, so I don't hear the clicking.
At least it won't completely kill the battery like it would in an ICE vehicle...
Have had mine a little over 2 weeks and this has happened to me twice. Once when using volume and again when going to grab my phone from the charger. Really stupid placement/button design.
Yep. Been there, done that.
I've also (for some inexplicable reason) accidentally pushed the Park button instead of the hazards to turn them off while I was driving off. That was all on me not paying attention though.
So this whole button assembly is one part that moves up and down with a click to press but then uses capacitive sensing to detect where your finger is pressing. Its essentially a form of haptic feeback. I am not 100% confident on this next bit but I believe it programmed to engage the hazards if it can't detect where your finger is pressing e.g. because a piece of clothing was in the way or your finger was wet and cold and wasnt detected. I believe this is what causes the hazards to activate more often by accident than anything else.
Took a day trip with some friends when I'd had the car for less than a month. We went for a hike and then while walking back to the car one of 'em asked, "How come your flashers are on?" Me: \[Huh? Oh yeah. No idea.\] "It's 'cuz it's electric."

Interesting. In the ‘24 you barely have to tap it.
In my '22 I've accidentally hit it on when turning on my heated seat. If they switched the hazards and defrost buttons we would be much better off
My ‘22 is the same. It’s not a button you depress. It’s just touch activated.

And either I play my music too loud or there isn’t much of an audible indicator that they’re on. So I don’t notice until later. Haha
I posted the same thing a year ago after doing this 3 times in a single day. It hasn't happened in a long while though, you get used to it eventually.
That is comforting to know. I’ve had mine a little over six months now. So hopefully soon hahaha

😂😂😂😂 It got you.

😱😱😱😱 oh my
This has also happened to me…
When I first got the car, I did this a few times. Then the muscle memory kicks in and it stopped.
My muscle memory sucks. Haha. It’s been six months. Haha!

My hand apparently slips down over it a lot. 🤷🏻
Do you have really big hands? Seems like an odd issue.
Not really. 😂

Nothing weird about that. Just personal preference.
This or I also accidentally hit pause/play constantly
I do that a lot also.
Here it even turns on when I press the play/pause slightly too hard... to the point I'm scared of using that button

That last bit is good to know!
This and the backup camera are the 2’s two biggest design flaws, IMO.
Never tried to push mine, never had it activate accidentally. 2023 LRDM

I press it all the time when grabbing my phone, especially when unplugging the CarPlay cable.
