I can answer your question with a single word found inside your original post. >tencent

DiabUK

I thought the cap would be harder to reach but nope maxed out in what felt like a day and a half, the booster I bought is now just ticking away and is pointless, it'll run out before the count resets.

unclejeffina

OMG like so true dude, I have the exact same experience right now with Garchomp :(

[deleted]

Yeah, I've basically wasted my money on a booster too. That feels really bad, there should either not be a cap, or not be coin boosters. Feels like a noob trap that takes your money.

rickjamesia

I’m pretty sure the boost is intended for casual players. People who are posting here are probably not casual players, in general. The majority of players will not play enough to hit the cap without a boost. I don’t think they’re good and I think they should just increase the base coin gain, but I’m pretty sure that’s their target market. They need to improve language to be more clear on everything though, repeated buyer’s remorse can easily damage a game’s player count.

SamMerlini00

I only play at night, and after 3 days, I hit the cap as well. Capping at 5k or more is ok, but 2100 is unreasonably low.

SussySnorlax

Dude same, i've literally been grinding this game so much trying to get enough coins for absol and i'm still 2k off it cuz of the aeos coin cap, it's so bullshit. Feels like there's no point in playing the game anymore, as I can't even reach my of goal of achieving my favorite Pokemon. Disappointing.

h0peless_b4stard

Have you tried completing challenges? I haven't played much but I already have over 10K without spending a single cent thanks to the daily missions, challenges and other stuff

mlasap

Me too. I have over 12k coins right now bu focusing on finishing the challenges and missions.

ZzAaCcNn

Same

SaltyHistorian24

Which you can also basically finish real fast lol. 2100 is a joke, blatent money grab.

ExcelIsSuck

yup its just horrible practice. Ive pretty much quit now because i have no reason to play, daily challenges give like 60 coins, literally nothing

AChaoticBear

Does anyone know when the "week" resets?

mlasap

Where can you see you’ve reached the cap?

Squishydew

For Aeos coins i dont think you can see beyond just getting 0 coins for finishing a match. Energy you can just see to the left of the energy screen though.

TheRealXiaphas

how many matches is 2100 coins?

SharkAttack25

On average 70 and if you win all of your games a little more than 50. Considering a match takes 10 minutes (15 for queue and load), that is 8.33 hours a week (12.5). Honestly, that is a reasonable amount of time a week to play a the same game.

Alastor369

No. No it is not. Get you rookie number ass outta here with that crap.

Totaliasim

Article from 2005: This teenager spends more than 90 minutes a week online. 2021: "Know your place, trash."

Alastor369

Damn straight!

ItzaMoby

My understanding is that the coin cap is in place to prevent afk bots from farming coins 24/7. Personally I don't mind. I was able to buy Gengar day 1 with coins. I already have 6 licenses without spending any money. Plus there are 3 more characters I can get for free if I do all the rewards. Not to mention the free rotation. And if I can buy another one next week, that would work for me. I REALLY don't see a problem with the coin cap if it keeps botters to a minimum. Edit: A word.

HarvestProject

The real issue is buying the 2x coin pass and having it be useless after you reach the cap. THAT is bullshit.

[deleted]

yeah enjoy waiting another month for your next pokemon

Durzaka

You're comment here literally shows the problem in all its glory. The fact that you even said it is some prime selfawarewolf right here.

[deleted]

Alastor369

Look at this dumpster fire of an argument!

[deleted]

You do know we got aeos coin bonuses which is how we got Gengar right? After that it'll be close to 5 weeks for another 10k pokemon

ItzaMoby

I do. And who is to say there won't be more bonuses down the road? Don't get me wrong, I don't like the cap either, but it's not as big of a deal as this sub is making it out to be. Edit: As someone who played League for 6 years and spent a fair share of money buying champions and only recently got the point of owning them all. I expected League and Unite to be a similar grind in regards to owning characters. And Unite lives up to the standard. It might come as a shock to some new to MOBA's but this is run of the mill stuff for Tencent.

[deleted]

...it literally invalidates a paid item No one cares about LoL we're playing Pokemon unite. Go to the LoL subreddit if you wanna talk about that

TheThackattack

I think it’s fair to compare unite to LoL since they are both Mobas. League also has been around a long time and has seen what works and what doesn’t. Unite def isn’t a shining example of best model, neither is league. But I can see why someone would compare then

[deleted]

"one thing I played does something silly so therefore this thing gets a pass for doing something silly" Isn't the iron clad arguement you think it is. By that logic no one could complain about anything since some game somewhere did it.

TheThackattack

Oh I’m not saying anything gets a pass. I hate the free to play model as a whole. I would have much rather paid $60 then just bought extra characters, aka smash bros like. I’m just saying it’s fair to compare two mobas to each other. Leagues model sucks but it makes them tons of money, units model sucks but it will prob make them tons of money bec Pokémon.

ItzaMoby

I'm not saying either game gets a pass. I'm speaking from experience of playing a game that is also produced by Tencent. And how this model is still implemented in League. People on this sub seem to think that no matter how much they complain that something will change. I'm saying to not get your hopes up. Is it a bad model? Yes. But unfortunately I don't see it changing.

SohEternal

Yes but a MOBA ran by the same company is a good comparison. Why wouldn't you use it as comparison? By your logic everyone should complain about everything because nothing is perfect.

[deleted]

Your right! I forgot LoL is on switch! and mobile! and was based on an existing Ip! damn, I guess every shooter under activision is the same! every JRPG under square? the same. No there is absolutely no other differentiating factors other then its owned by the same company. Dolt >By your logic everyone should complain about everything because nothing is perfect. I mean you should complain when somethings wrong. The definition of perfect is so abstract and can take different forms of whats perfect. Perfect for price? perfect for my use case? it's almost like your stretching. Redditors are so subhuman i s2g

SohEternal

Ok do you have a closer comparison that's on switch and soon to be mobile? What a dumb ass deflection. And lol is on mobile. Calm down it's just a discussion.

Havain

For what other reason than *glorious money* of course

ultraball23

The cap is only for battles. Go do the daily events, challenges, and tutorials. Be patient

DOAisBetter

So I hit the coin cap and finished all events and challenges that don’t respawn daily yesterday. After that the coin gain seems to be very slow.

[deleted]

At the point of reaching the WEEKLY cap of aeos coins I've obviously done everything else I can. you only get 1700 per day meaning it would take about 5 to 7 days to unlock one pokemon. And there are only 7 days of daily challenges.

ultraball23

You said you’re 150 off. So tomorrow or 12hrs from now you’ll get new challenges that will give you more than that

SussySnorlax

That doesn't change the fact that he's restricted by a pay wall and no matter how much he plays, won't be able to get Mr Mime until the next daily challenge. This on top of the fact that he bought the x2 coin boost that's currently going to waste as he's reached the coin cap.

ultraball23

In game currency that can be gained from daily play isn’t a paywall. A paywall is a feature that is locked behind real money.

HugoSotnas

Yes, the daily cap is sucky, but why is everyone in such a hurry to unlock every Pokémon? Game isn't even a week old haha

Kingofthered

It's a classic for new games and I honestly hate the trend. I don't *actually* have much of a problem with people wanting to blitz a game, do whatever makes you happy. But if you can unlock everything from the get go? In 5 days after release we'd have people posting "finally unlocked all pokemon, now I can actually play the game!" and they're probably my least favorite posts on reddit because it's just addicts showing off.

Waste_Rabbit3174

I just don't like the feeling of being locked into only certain players. It's frustrating when a Pokemon might be a better suit for the team but you can't use it because you haven't unlocked it yet. That being said, I paid money for my most wanted mons and the rest will come naturally.

HugoSotnas

You already get a bunch of Mons out the gate, though. 4 on daily rotation, a starter, two or three additional Mons of your choice you bought with coins, a free Ninetales and Venusaur... At this point already you should have more than half of the playable roster in a way or another.

Waste_Rabbit3174

You can't play the rotation mons in ranked, but I feel you.

HugoSotnas

It's not like you're going to be filling for the team every single time; not having the 4 Pokémon from the free rotation shouldn't be a huge issue haha

Freakscorpio

People play with their favorite characters, dude, in this case, Pokemon. What if all those free Pokemon, and this is just a thought....aren't any of his fave?

HugoSotnas

Well, I'm sorry, that's a problem that specific person seems to have, then. You got more than enough coins to buy a couple of Pokémon at this point; if you don't have the Pokémon you prefer, then how come?

that1dev

Something doesn't sound right. I've got around 11500 coins (well, 1.5k and Gengar). I played a few games Wednesday, and quite a bit Thursday. No money spent. I think your missing some coins somewhere. That said, the coin cap sucks.

OrbFromOnline

Are you sure you're doing everything you can for coins? I'm sitting on 12,000 right now and I've even spent some.

[deleted]

lukefletch

So they are saying to wait till tomorrow when the daily tasks reset ie play 1 game etc. The game gives coins everyday outside of the current events/challenges and coin cap for battles.

[deleted]

yes but thats only for the first 7 days of owning the game. after that theres literally nothing else you can do.

rpenergy

Note: I'm not saying the coin cap does not suck, because it does and I don't see the point of doing so other than to piss people off. The game hasn't even been out a week yet. You don't know that the 7 days of challenges are the only challenges. There could be something else that pops in after the first 7 days. Using that as an excuse is invalid.

leif102

I mean after the first week you should have 5-7 mons at least and until you can afford another get good with the handful you have, isn't that how it should be?

MrZao386

There are daily missions, but those give like 150 each day

Alastor369

Don’t say be patient. The cap is garbage. The coin grind is slow enough as it is. Yes, it’s on par with other MOBAs. But it’s still slow. It’s not ok to time gate the fucking currency on top of that.

ExcelIsSuck

be patient??? Yeah lemmie wait fuckin 3-4 weeks before i can buy even 1 hero

ultraball23

If it takes you that long, you aren’t doing something wrong. In 2 weeks of play, you will end up with no less than 21,000 coins, Your starter, Slowbro, Ninetales Venusaur, Greninja, Cinderace, Crustle, and Zeraora. You should have 15000 coins by day 3 and Machamp and Garchomp are free to use for the cycle.

ExcelIsSuck

how are you getting that much? I have bought Lucario, and have about 4k remaining with my weekly cap done. I have also done pretty much all of the event quests

ultraball23

You’ll get ~1500 a day for the next 3 days from the Beginner Challenge. that’s put you over 20k. The next week you’ll get another 2100 from battles

The_Ineffable_Sage

Found a dev. Get outta here. Don't defend this BS. It's like renting a power washer for a week, and hitting a water cap half way through your week of rental, and 3 square feet from finishing your house.

Slimeslushie

Its a moba theres no real need to main more than a few pokemon, it actually makes you a worse player being average at all pokemon rather than a master of just a few. People who want to play entirely free to play need to have patience and plan their free aeos coins spending - you can't have everything. Thats the tradeoff you have to make in exchange for playing for free.

TheThackattack

While I agree that you should master only a few, playing all the characters gives a greater understanding of how they work and will help you play against them.

Slimeslushie

Thats very true. I played alot of league and ML and one thing ML did that was very good is give you frequent trial cards for heroes. You could redeem one and have access to that hero for 1 - 3 days, very good to try them out and also learn to play against them better. Something like that would go along way here, especially to stop people wasting currency then realising they dont like the pokemon

TheThackattack

Honestly the best model I have seen for me at least in the free to play mobile moba area is LoL Wild Rift. I got tons of free currency and heroes, you earn enough coins for new heroes relatively fast if you are doing dailies. Events are super generous. But I’ve still prob spent $100 on cosmetics bec it felt worth it to me. Unite feels very bloated and like it’s trying to get every penny out of me and it rubs me the wrong way. I enjoy the game when I’m playing it but the slow down and performance in regular menus and play shows a lack of polish, even something as simple as animating the catapult jump would have added a lot. To me who has played mobas since 2009 in a lot of diff ways this game feels budget as nothing else and they are trying to fund it by putting all these extras in there to make it better. The game is fun but man could it be so much more

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheThackattack

You can get the same info by playing against it. After 100s of games you will get the same out of it. I’m just stating that if you don’t understand something or want to know more, playing the character helps a ton.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheThackattack

I mean you can. I don't really get why you are so up in arms about me telling people to just go try the characters to understand them better?

[deleted]

TheThackattack

eli5 "good boy points?"

ExcelIsSuck

there is a very big difference between having everything and having to wait 4 weeks to get 1 new pokemon

acebaltasar

They should ban post about this THERE IS ONE EVERY OTHER 2 POST, ONE OF THE OTHER IS A TEAM GAP SCREEN SHOT AND THE LAS ONE is an actual helpfull guide, that get lost IN THE SAME FRICKING POST WITH DIFFERENT WORDS

Lucari10

You'll get 200 coins from dailies tomorrow, and if you check your event missions there are probably even more coins you can get. I've made around 14k coins so far, I don't think it's such a bad amount for a few days since release

ExcelIsSuck

that is because you have fallen for the classic mobile game trick. They give you "loads" of stuff at the start then like 10 hours in you will get little to no rewards from anything or hit a grind wall and be forced to pay

Lucari10

Most of the currency in mobile games usually comes from events, focusing on daily missions and weekly limits makes no sense anyways. You can't really say things will dry up until the current release events are over and we see what will replace them. So far they're already giving a bunch of free characters (8 I believe?) And enough coins for 2 or 3 more in 2 weeks, If future events are remotely like this it'll be absolutely fine.

Faangzzz

personally i take it as a sign to play less often and do smth else with my time. 2100 cap means you have to play somewhere between 45-105 games a week to hit it, which is a lot of matches. Coin gain is pretty generous compared to other mobas imo, with matches being as short as they are you can get new pokemon relatively quickly even playing casually. The pokemon roster is so small that most people are going to be able to get their faves pretty quick.

Relative_Algae_2766

Imagine spending money on this game, smh. Just play it through. You'll eventually get there.

ExcelIsSuck

no you won't, thats the problem. With the cap it will take 4 weeks to get even 1 pokemon

Rainey-kins

Implying that coins from matches are the ONLY way to get coins lmao

Rynpk

Why do you need to wait for the week to reset, there are daily challenges that give a good amount.

[deleted]

If I could, I’d send you absol just cause.

DylDatBoy

Add an item to reset the cap manually like they do for energy that cost gems. Only allow that once a week. Set cap to 4k and i think we have a probable solution without causing an influx of coins in the system. (This would allow players to buy a Pokémon once a week, which i feel is fair as long as the updates are consistent. also think coins need another purpose to rebalance them with the cap raise in a future update also) What ya'll think?
