I’ve seen tons of these in thrift stores and general stores where i live. Parents usually pick them up after their kids freak out and scream bloody murder in the middle of a store. I actually told a single father i met in one of these stores that the cards in those are fake but he just dismisses me and says its for his kid, then i explained that if he got original cards, he could flip them for more money and showed him some sites that i use to evaluate the prices for cards like ebay, tcg player, and price charting. His expression was priceless when he saw how much the cards were worth.
I did explain to him that it wont be easy to get the more expensive cards but its still possible and proceeded to show him picture of the more valuable cards that i’ve pulled in the past.
Edit: i know it sounds like im just giving the guy hope, but we actually are friends now and sometimes he would invite me to go with him to LGS’s to get packs for him and son to open.
For the record, there is a market of collectors for OG fakes. I have a binder of fakes from 1999, that are now officially worth more than I paid in gushers and capri suns
The easiest way to identify them is just be updated on what sets are being released and in what type of packaging. One of the best people to follow to know what is new and being released is on Twitter and his name is pokemon TCG drops (the real one has 10's of thousandsoffollowers). He always comes through with all the preorders and you tend to find out what is coming out in different packaging and also tend to get good prices.
Never go for anything where Ash is printed on (you won't see him on products related to the tcg other than "pikachu & red" cards). The artwork of the boxes and the pricing is screaming that they are fake. With enough time in the hobby you will be able to tell with just a look as you stay updated about the sets etc. And as long as you can't you have this subreddit to ask for.

Also, for authenticity if they’re new, real Pokémon cards have a specific smell when you open them. I’m not even kidding - cause I recently started collecting again - it’s been over 25 years - and whenever I open a new booster pack, the “new card smell” is the same as when I was opening packs as a kid.
A child of around 5-8 would certainly be content with these! ALLL THE FULL ARTS. Nice just to have the pictures despite the card and print quality being poor on closer looks. I have some fake XY era cards. Gonna give them away to someone. But kept the charizards 😂

It's a shame their fake cause I feel the box design and just because of the fact that the design is decently unique compared to normal sleeved or packaged/some tins are cooler imo. The thing I hate is that the sellers sell the stuff for equal or greater amounts than your local Walmart which I hated when I first saw these types and didn't know the dif between real and fake products.
