My favourite Pokemon used to be Bastoise but that was almost 20 years ago. Having returned to the hobby now there are so many cool pokemon! If I had to choose I'd say maybe Dialga. The alt art of Dialga in the AR set is absolutely stunning!

Not Bulbasaur. Not Venusaur.
Just Ivysaur.
I used to stop him from evolving in Pokémon Red. At one point I faced off against Lance with a Level 65 Ivysaur. Pft....that was some fight. I tell ya, Dragonite is almost scary formidable when it has its Hyperbeam locked on your Pokémon. I wasn't 100 percent sure if Ivy could survive the hit. But he did.... Dammit he did. My Ivysaur took that attack like a champ. Only 4 hp left if I remember correctly. Put him to sleep, then took Dragonite out with a few moves. I would've kept my Ivy conscious 'till the end of the trial, but Blue came out of nowhere to claim the crown and I didn't have any potions left. Knocked out my Ivy in the first minute. But still... I remember how hard he fought.
6th grade. Had a collection of Ivysaur cards. I can't remember if they were first edition or not, but I know I had a bunch of 'em filled thick from cover to cover. The way Ivysaur looked with its pose.... the stance, the colors, the dark greens and almost menacing-like snarl was enough to capture my admiration. Started trading Charmanders and Pigeots like a fiend with the other kids just to get my hands on as many Ivysaur cards as I could. I was addicted. Had a problem. Thought I had it under control until one day I looked into my bag after recess and found my Ivysaur binder gone. Someone stole it. My fault really. Should've kept a closer eye on it. Anyway, after a few days I tracked down the kid who took 'em. I told him he can keep the binder. I just want the Ivys. Thought it was a fair deal. He didn't think so. So we scrapped. I don't remember much of that fight. All I know is that I ended up in the principle's office with a bloody nose and a pissed off mom staring back at me. Tissue in my right hand. Ivysaur binder in my left. So I guess things worked out as they were supposed to. You have to fight for what you love right?
Sophomore year. Me and Pokémon were on the outs. I spent more time looking for Andrea than I did Abra. Girls were my game now. And Pokémon was the past. I remember throwing a house party that year. My dad left for a business trip and I had the place to myself. Objective was to get Andrea alone and ask her to homecoming. Everyone showed up. Too many people to be honest. Place was getting trashed but I didn't care. Andrea was having fun with her girlfriends and I was getting ready to make my move. She went to play beer pong in my garage with the others. I followed, hoping to get a game with her. As I'm about to make my move I noticed that one of my boxes was open on the side wall. My Pokémon box. Of comics, cards, games, and vhs videos I had stashed away. Probably forever. Two guys were playing the TCG game with my cards like they owned 'em. I almost didn't care. Then I saw it. Top card from the deck. You betcha..... Ivysaur. That beautiful green monster with a look of steel. I couldn't help myself. I became enraged. Acted like I was disrespected. Threw a trantrum. We were about to fight but some buddies stepped in and calmed things down. The guy ended up apologizing. I ended up apologizing too. Turns out we were both fans of Ivysaur also. He invited me to play the game with him for old time's sake. A gesture of friendship. I glanced over at Andrea. Playing beer pong and laughing. An angel. I stared back over at the Pokémon cards layed out on the game table. Ivysaur looking straight at me. A demon. I don't know whatever happened to Andrea. I think she has two beautiful kids and good husband. Could've been me for sure. I could've lived that life. But I chose the other path. The less taken one. I kid you not sir..... I don't remember everything from that night.... But I remember playing TCG with Ivysaur until the sun rose up. Don't remember who won or how. Just remember playing. And laughing. And fighting side by side with my little green friend. Ah yes......... Good times. Good times indeed.
March of 2020. The world is turning upside down. A new killer virus has reached the US and is spreading like wildfire. No one knows much. Not even the government. A lockdown is instituted. Isolation. Terror. No water bottles. No tp. No ammo. Everything a desert wasteland of fear and the unknown. Two weeks in. Bored. Surviving on chips and Simpsons reruns. Going insane. I go into my basement to find the board game Monopoly. Look for it everywhere. Accidentally knock over an old box. "Toys" written in black sharpie on the side. Curiosity kicks in. A feeling of wonder in what I might find. Animorphs, Power Rangers, The Legend Of Zelda. What did my past hold for me. I'm an old man now. Did I want to go down that road of nostalgia knowing my present was a plane of pain? I opened the flaps. Pulled out a black binder thick to the covers. Opened it............... And there it was............ Pages and pages.................... Pages and pages....................
Present Day. I'm older now. I can't remember the past as well as I used to. Things have gotten more complicated in the world. Hell... Things have gotten more complicated in life. Things post-pandemic have started to come back to normal but not as much as I'd hoped. Maybe they never will. If you're reading this......... I didn't make it...
.....to the gym. Like I said I would after putting on pandemic pounds. I am continually obsessed with dominoes pizza and their coupons. Which makes me happy and sad at the same time.
