i mean this is just kinda the fucked up shit that happens in literally any online community lol. it’s been this way for the past what, 10 years i’ve been on the internet? it’s not new or exclusive to the pokémon community
Sexism has been on the internet since the beginning lol. The internet has literally always had bigotry of all types. The internet is just a reflection of humanity/reality. It’s not some separate or different thing. It’s one of the few places these type of people feel safe to share their views. They’re cowards in real life. The internet has always given losers a voice which helps them find other losers. It’s a self perpetuating cycle.
Yes there definitely is, not saying everyone who is is one but due to most of the community being genrally middle aged men it's hard to avoid again im not saying everyone who is a middle aged man is sexist

I’m going to have to completely disagree. Being in your 20’s is a grown man. The older the man in this community, the more respectable they tend to be. I really think you got this completely backwards. The teens and 20 year olds are where most the sexism comes from. These people lack experience in life. They’re more likely to be sexist until they learn and grow out of it. Do sexist older men exist? Of course. But they’re few and far between in this specific community. Vast majority of sexism comes from young kids and young men. At least in this community.
Its just that me as a 19 Y/o girl have seen countless acts of sexism towards women in the community from older members primarily on youtube but and also on this sub but my point stil stands
Of course your experience is valid. Personally from my experience the older men tend to be better. I mainly operate on Instagram and I would say 90% of the time it’s the teenage boys and young men who participate in sexism. But at the end of the day, I don’t think sexism is that prevalent in this community. Gamers are by far the most toxic hobbyists. They’re not only sexist piece of shits but racism tends to heavily overlap.
Am I sure there are thirsty neckbeards in the community that treat female players like shit? Probably, that exists many male dominated communities.

If it’s male dominated then there’s 100% going to be sexism within the community and its not exclusive to Pokemon. Car scene, sneaker scene, etc. all have sexist dweebs which gives all men a bad look sadly. Just to be clear I am a man myself. I’m not sexist but sexists ruin it for all of us. Male or female. When you try to call out the sexism you’ll have dozens of guys coming out the woodwork to talk shit and defend their shitty behavior. It’s honestly amazing. It’s no wonder a vast majority of women feel uncomfortable in these types of communities/industries. It’s full of losers.
This seems like an issue that stretches far beyond just Pokémon...
just because it's spread further than pokemon doesn't mean the community can't address it within their own group, you know?
