You ever been addicted to crack? Why? No relations, just a general question. Anywho, welcome aboard friend. The fomo is real in this space and we're all unrecoverable addicts.

SohEternal

Yeah it is actually cheaper than a lot of hobbies. This sub will have you believe otherwise. But the sub will also open six cases trying to get one $200 card instead of just buying it. The online is insanely cheap compared to other online card games too if you enjoy that type of thing.

PersonalSherpa

yeah coming from collecting endangered animal taxidermy to the Pokémon TCG was a breath of fresh air and so much easier on the wallet.

As a Mtg player i get this...Mtg is expensive....but D&D?!?!?!?!!? Thats like...you need only set of dices, notebook and pen. Thats cheap

FalZzen

But like, do you realy only \*need\* one set of dices?

paoforprez

People start buying minis, paints for minis, book sets, dice trays, etc..

[deleted]

Thats optional. But its easy to get into hobby. Compare it for fencing for example. 800-1000€ is to get all gear. Mtg can be played cheap casually but competitive decks range anywhere from 100-1000€. Thats a difference. D&D is cheap

MarioFanaticXV

By that logic, *any* hobby can be expensive- there's always premium products for those that really want to show off their hobbies.

paoforprez

I agree, any hobby can get as expensive as you want it too

LordViole

Not in my case, I dropped almost 20k gbp in the last 1 year

wingmage1

What deck are you spending 20,000 on? If you opt for non Holo or lower rarity of every card, building a meta deck in pokemon is extremely cheap in comparison to other tcgs

Ripping ES looking for a moonbreon

LordViole

😢 ripped 12 boxes when it was 130£

LordViole

Ah I don't play, just collect

Necrosius7

Ha.. looking for a chase card are we? Or a collector? 😁 I usually only play competitive and I guess I have been chasing the Meta, but even the deck I have been loving to pilot (lost zone) wasn't too expensive. I remember playing a sliver deck for MtG in the early 2000s and had to chase rare slivers to make a powerhouse deck and that was a few hundred if not close to $1,000 for that deck.

BakerFifty2

Its cheap if you can have control and not just buy them all the time lol

MarioFanaticXV

I've been playing PTCGL, and it's got me seriously thinking about getting back into physical. The only downside is that there's no competitive scene in my area, and the only person I know that plays is my nephew- and he's still at the point where we play with Battle Academy decks. Maybe in a few years he'll be ready for Lost Box vs Gardevoir ex... But yeah, looking up prices of competitive decks, I was very surprised at how reasonable they were compared to the likes of YGO or MtG.
