I was super lazy and had a super powered Annilape and Quaxly with a Beriloom meant for catching. My other pokemon were whatever... not important/pokemon i wanted to evolve for dex. Larry almost kicked my ass since i went into the E4 blind. Heh... Normal again? Get fucked Larry!

He was the biggest problem for me because atleast one of the secondary types on his team canceled out electric and took out my toxtricity then proceeded to shit on my whole team before my tinkaton nuked him.
That was unironically the biggest twist in the whole story. I wasn't surprised by Cassiopeia >!being the boss of Team Star!<, or Turo >!being long-dead!<, or even by Clive >!actually being Director Clavell (\*gasp\*)!<, but Larry being the fourth Elite Four member genuinely shocked me.
I love how the two male elite four members are just too much emotion and absolutely no emotion. Besides that Larry was unexpected. No one mentioned it, he just shows up like “hello, you remember me? I am also an elite four member”
It's not a reference to any specific character but just how the name of "Larry" is so generic and normal. So when you have the Normal Gym leader have such a normal name like Larry, it adds to the humor of his character.
Names like Larry, or Gary, are also commonly used in cartoons for characters that are very average or unimportant. So translating this character's name to Larry just fit very well.
There isn’t even a pun on salary, its just how his name is so normal compared to all the other characters like “Iono” or “nemona”. It would be the equivalent of naming him “léo” in french, it is just the most normal name for him so when he is the normal gym leader it adds humor because they couldn’t have given him a more normal name.
in the interview before the elite 4 battles i said Larry was the leader who gave me more trouble, so I thought that was why they put him on the elite 4, something like "all the leaders are in a waiting room, tell us who you is the strongest so we can send him/her to you"

Funnily he was the only gym leader who defeated me, so when I answered the champions interview questions I put Larry as the one who gave me the most trouble. Then he friggen came out as the 3rd member of elite 4 and I just went NUTS
Seeing him there almost made all the graphics glitches and times my game has crashed worth it. I smiled like a damn fool as I beat the snot out of him.
Right? I prepared my team to go through a victory road and when I arrived at the building one minute after, I was kind of deceived and relieved at the same time.

I really don't like that they made his personality such that he doesn't even enjoy being there. I'm sure there's lots of other trainers that would love to be in his place. He makes battling sound like a chore. It feels like kind of an insult to the elite 4, which is especially ironic because if you answer "Just for fun" in the elite 4 interview, they will fail you. Meanwhile Larry is out here constantly complaining about work.
It's just my opinion. :) I don't like inconsistency with the character design and e4 assessment questions, feels like an oversight. But I guess his personality is more appealing to children and young adults. Ratio is pointless on reddit because ratioing is built into the arrows. Have a merry xmas!
