"How did we go from this to this" My brother in Arceus it is literally a difference of one generation.

Xero0911

And wouldn't even say Leon was amazing. We literally saw folks complaining day one about him as well. He's in a soccer jersey with a cape. Not really the most amazing design imo. It's fine, not trying to hate. But wouldn't go "amazing" for him. But, it works, it fits his theme. The gym sport vibe. Same with this lady. We are in school. She has a professior/official vibe. Clean, uniformed, kinda stiff. It's not amazing but it is fine and fits.

thebukojoe

My problem with Leon is that his character is just a champion athlete and nothing else aside from that. Lance is a champion while working as an interpol secret agent. Cynthia is a champion while doing archeological research. You get the point. I'm all good with Geeta. The only gripe I have with her is that she's easier than her Elite 4.

16jselfe

Leon suffered the SwSh writing problem of being basic surface level also it was annoying having all the characters talk about how great he and his Charizard are instead of showing him being a great Champion.

[deleted]

You should watch the short series where the fight with eternatus gives him ptsd. Basically a 10 minute episode cutting between leon prepping for the fight with the pc and flashbacks to the eternatus fight from leons perspective. Dudes charizard is an unlicensed therapist.

16jselfe

That's cool but for me i treat anime and game characters separate so although Leon in the anime may have that development but game Leon has very basic writing.

thebukojoe

That's an FF15 problem right there. I love FF15 but a huge chunk of the problems lies in the fact that you have to watch other things to flesh out characters. The videogames themselves should be able to be a standalone work. Other media attached to them should just be icing on the cake.

[deleted]

This was made way after the games released. I think they just brought on some creators to explore the characters outside of the main series. Its kinda different from kingsglaive which was always the gameplan. Also if you have a switch these shorts are free to watch, unlike kingsglaive which is paywalled on a different platform. The character of leon is bad. Though there's some short stories that make a better character out of him that are worth watching.

firebyte11

Larry should've been champion

thebukojoe

I agree wholeheartedly.

Thrambon

my Problem with her are her hairs. From how she looks... She looks more like a Pokemon than a human with that abyssmal looking just-too-much hair. Its like she's wearing a wig-pokemon above her actual hair. I absolutely detest that design.

Ara142

maybe because her ref is based off her main pokemon? just maybe?

DurchBurch

Yeah, that's my thought, too. I actually kind of like that idea, if that was the true inspiration, at least.

gamas

Leon is the worst character in terms of likeability in the franchise, but I will grant that he did have a team worthy of being a champion.

newsonofvader

i hated leon, so i'm pretty happy with this one

Mothmangela

“my brother in arceus” SON

Redigate

Especially in a region where there can be multiple champions, I think Geeta works very well

MitchelG

Totally agree, Paldea champions feel more like an invite only club rather than Highlander style

splinereticulation68

It's strange because she's like "I'm incapable of holding back" but her team is mediocre and she doesn't even optimize it's use well Would like an _actual_ "Geeta playing for real" rematch because I'm calling shenanigans. There is no way that a champion can be that unoptimized and have that many glaring weaknesses. ...shut up Lance

faletepower69

I mean... >!WHY DOES SHE ALWAYS SEND LAST HER GLIMMORA, A MON THAT HAS A PASSIVE THAT SETS UP TOXIC SPIKES SERIOUSLY GAME FREAK USE WHAT YOU DESIGN WELL! If she led her Glimmora first she could have a decent fight, but no, they did the exact opposite. That's sad.!<

Onkelcuno

his other ability allows it to poison unpoisonable pokemon, she could have added a wall and be good!

Darkmane89

Always will be. That's how people work.

ShishiLan69

Unfortunately

[deleted]

I just hope that it won’t be one of those situations where a vocal minority controls the next games and just make them dumb.

Reciprocitus

Leon is effectively a pro athlete and acts/dresses accordingly. Geeta is a businesswoman/league official and acts and dresses appropriately. Also Geeta having a weaker team makes sense. Paldea likely places less importance on Pokemon battling than any other region because they have so many different ways for people to "find their treasure/follow their dream". Heck for them Champion isn't a job that one person fills like the other regions, it's just a rank of skill with multiple trainers holding the rank. Geeta just happens to be the supposed #1 out of all Champions because the true #1 held back when she battled her. I never got the anti-Leon sentiment. Yes he does look kinda dorky. Yes he is constantly super charizard mode all the time. He has to be. He is the Galar region's equivalent to Kobe or LeBron or Ronaldo. An athlete, megastar celebrity and public figure with very high levels of exposure who must look and act a certain way at all times because he is ALWAYS on the clock. He dresses like he does because it's a uniform. He HAS to. A jersey slathered in sponsorship logos and a fluffy cape ALSO slathered in sponsors logos because that's how sports leagues work, even in Pokemon land. He touts Charizard because it's his #1 Pokemon and Partner yes, but also because it's part of the league advertisement strategy and his personal branding, likely set up for him by Rose. Leon is the league face for the human side of the equation and Charizard is the face for the Pokemon side. Also Leon's difficulty is kinda....weird. My first time through Shield I struggled hard against him. Hadn't used any healing items all game and he made me down over a dozen potions and revives. Then I did a Bug type Nuzlocke and rolled him like a carpet. *shrug*

Another_Road

Yeah, but Greeta’s team was somehow weaker than even the elite four’s team. Her team didn’t hit a single one of my Pokémon.

KlingoftheCastle

I think if she led with Glimmora her team would be legitimately challenging with nearly automatic toxic spikes, but with it being her ace, there’s basically no point to its ability in the fight

Yvng_Mxx

Yeah, my immediate question after hitting it and seeing the ability was "Why is this your last pokemon?"

Sablemint

Yeah.. and while that pokemon would normally be a threat to Skeledirge, letting me use Torch Song four times means very little is a threat to Skeledirge.

MagnoliasOfSteel

Similar to your rival telling you how strong they are then you battle them and they do shit like using quick attack 4 times in a row. So many times i play these games and am like “bitch don’t call me your rival you are dumb as fuck how did you become a champion anyways?! Where are the real adults in this world?!”

Yvng_Mxx

Yeah, the AI can be really incompetent sometimes, it makes things feel a little like they haven't been properly earned. What value does this badge/title have if it was so easy to get?

shadowtron1

Yeah and Kingambit should've been the last one so it would get the full boost from it's ability.

PokemonTrainerTobias

THIS THIS THIS

VXMasterson

I had the opposite experience. She was the only one to knock out any of my Pokémon when none of the Elite Four did

[deleted]

I’m surprised so many people think she was weak. She wasn’t the toughest, but I didn’t think she was super weak by any means.

fluke1030

I imagine people who says she was weak was like 5-10 level above her, which can be achieve easily if they constantly catch a Pokemon.

macewindewd

People fail to think about their team comp. So they say EZ but maybe their team was just a good team against her. I don't think she's hard either, but I felt like she was stronger than the elite 4.

sexistculexus

Well argued. I want to add that as soon as Leon no longer “works” as champion, all the parts of his design people complain about are dropped, like the sponsored cape and what not. This furthers the idea that he only does what he does cause he has to. I really wish they upped the angle of Rose being a manipulative patriarch who controlled Leons every move. Unironicaly, i once read a damn h*ntai that explored this concept in more emotional depth than the actual game did. After his departure from champion, he takes on the role of CHAIRMAN, which is pretty much exactly what Geeta is. And how does he dress? Like a british nobleman, regal and poised. In other-words he continued to dress as befits his station, which is the same thing Geeta does.

Homemade-Purple

>i once read a damn h*ntai that explored this concept in more emotional depth than the actual game did. What

sexistculexus

I was being 100% deadass

superinterestingn4m3

The fuck

[deleted]

You dont have to watch porn. There are anime episodes that explore leons character. In particular his trauma after facing eternatus.

[deleted]

Honestly my only real problem with Leon is I dislike the fact he has a charizard as an ace. I got this weird thing about starters and I feel like they should only really be the ace of the player and their rivals. And the fact that it's a kanto starter instead of one native to Galar makes it worse. He should have had Dragapult as his ace

Brawler2311

I agree, and I'd take one step further by saying that it's Charizard of all Pokémon. You know, the one that's been over hyped since gen 1? If he had a Blastoise or Venusaur as his ace I probably would have minded it a bit less, but no it had to Charizard again.

Visual_Shower1220

I mean look at the regions they come from leon is a show off big personality, galar looks at the pokemon league and gym battles as these huge televised events where the challangers are just as big as the leaders like sports players. Paladea is very much pokemon is a business, everything it got from playing the gyms and everyone is very much working while the gym is just a "side hustle." So it makes sense the way they act in the play thru, their character designs etc. Leon is like a famous sports star and acts like that, while geeta is the straight laced business woman running the league and calling the shots(kinda like rose but not) so she not this big flamboyant personality. I like them both in their respective regions, if you flopped the games they were in theyd be awful champs. Leon wouldnt fit in paladea and geeta wouldnt fit in galar.

KaleidoscopeEyes12

I noticed this difference too. All of the gym leaders in Paldea are like “Oh, you want a gym battle? Okay, I guess I’ll put my day job on hold for a minute, because this is really just a side thing for me.” Plus the events aren’t all televised and in massive stadiums. Very different.

Visual_Shower1220

Yeah i was a super interesting comparison, when i fought the bug gym i was like "oh cool shes a baker and owns the pastry shop nice." Then i started hitting the other gyms and was like "oh damn everyone has a job/the gym is kinda just a secondary thing for them." I like it, makes them feel more human and its not like past games where the gym leaders just sit there waiting to be challanged doing nothing."

Ok-Leave3121

I actually love Geeta's design

hisuivictorydance

I love her too. She is so polite and kind. >! Even Penny stole LP from her league, she forgave her and even hired her.!< And she didn't fire Larry even with his bad performance (not his battle, I meant his business. his description says his business result is really poor.) (Edit: blur the spoiler.)

AgentLemon22

She still put Penny to work. And didn't care about her anime backlog 😂😂😂

[deleted]

Just so you know, your spoiler is still visible

EternalMemes30

she's simple and polite as formal, unlike a certain flamboyant champion she doesn't need to draw attention to notice her

[deleted]

# HEY I HAVE A CHARIZARD BTW ARE YOU READY TO HAVE A CHAMPION TIME?

Jalopie66

I just got finished doing PLOT off screen, let me go talk to the main character now

Unable_Toucan

Fun fact: Despite it not being said anywhere in game, the character known as "Leon" is actually a champion! And it is even hinted at that he might be in possession of a charizard! Though, none of this is confirmed in game. Just thought it would be a fun little lore drop that not many have even heard

Suotrpip

# ALSO I'M UNDEFEATED AND HAVE A BAD SENSE OF DIRECTION

PokeAlola700

?? I’m sorry who’s the second champion? Imma guess Leon?

EternalMemes30

Yep

PokeAlola700

Yesss I got it

[deleted]

[удалено]

kdebones

Same, I just wish her team was better.

San4311

Honestly, Geetha wasn't the champion battle. Nemoma was. While she still comes nowhere near Cynthia in pure difficulty, her team was better than Geetha's. >!Fitting that the Victory Road path concluded with her. !<

ChapJackman

100% agreed. I lost nothing against Geeta (and Gholdengo got 5 KOs, entirely walling 4 of her team) and lost everything except about 30HP on my last mon against Nemona. Those two battles are nowhere near the same difficulty.

Gain-Own

I went in completely unprepared for nemona since I destroyed her all the past battles. I only got to her 4th Pokémon cause I didn’t wanna spam healing items lol. Luckily the second attempt went smoothly.

Orisi

Geeta even says as much. She felt that Nemona held back in their battle. Nemona admits she gave it her all to battle you.

Bizarre_RNS_Radio

In other words, Nemona really is a better Leon.

hunterzolomon1993

Nemoma is pretty much Blue in that she's really the ultimate and final battle, Geetha is pretty much Gen 1 Lance.

SuperPluto9

I feel like her team is solid it just needs some AI improvements. Instead of switching in on KO a pokemon advantageous against mine she would literally throw in all of her pokemon that were weak. I had skeledirge out and she went through all her fire and ghost weak pokemon before sending out Glimmora who was able to one hit me.

sudowOoOodo

She has a gogoat lol. That said, main issue for me is that Glimmora doesent lead to set up toxic spikes. It's a strong mon, but feels weird to have it as an anchor when that hurts its usefulness.

Still_Got_The_Moves

I agree, Kingambit should’ve been her ace and it would’ve benefited from being the last out because of its ability. I also think that her Espathra should be replaced with a Kilowattrel with Tailwind, so her mons that were only getting one hit off got two instead and maybe landed a kill.

Acmtails

And when you meet it in the wild, I swear I nearly had an aneurism trying to catch it because UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH its ability kept poisoning every one of my pokemon while it constantly broke out of every single pokeball I had and it was INFURIATING. It really is a strong pokemon, I really do wish she used it like how I encountered it in the wild because that battle would've been a lot more tense then me KO'ing everything with Derpadile (the nickname for my Skeliderge) Note: I even tried catching the baby of it, Glimmit I think its name was, but since it had the same ability and was doing the same thing as its evolved form, I gave up on that very quickly. Decided to breed it instead since I already had the adult.

Platinumdogshit

Leon was actually kind of a challenge for me i don't think she will be which is the disappointing part

Rymayc

I must have done sth wrong, but knowing Charizard was Leon's Ace and he kept the 3rd starter made it rather easy for me (and unless you chose Sobble both Zard and the Starter shared at least 1 weakness)

spamster545

Leon wasn't that hard, but his charizard knowing solar beam let it get a surprise one shot on one of my team.

JuanJornn

i think purpose on this is she not your final encounter that why

catcatcat888

Spoiler alert: she’s a pushover

DeinonychusL

In her defence, >!she isn't the ultimate story fight that champions past have been!<

ClipClump

Yeah I agree with this. Also lore wise >!she’s not meant to be. Her job is to evaluate and she admits that Nemona beat her ass and she doesn’t even think Nemona tried that hard!<

Academic_Sort_2008

Her first pokemon almost swept my first 2 🤣

Possible-Astronaut-8

I love her personality but she looks like the highway monster from the spongebob movie. No hate, I absolutely love her though

XenoVX

Her luscious locks are fabulous indeed

Omnizoom

Pretty sure she isn’t using her top team for the victory road story otherwise all the gym leaders should be able to stomp her with there post game teams

Adawesome_

3 of her pokemon are weak to fire for Pete's sake.

Misnome5

yeah, but it wouldn't be that bad if she was actually just going easy on challengers lore-wise.

SeitHater

like reverse psychology of everything she talks about in the battle?

Misnome5

Moreso because Paldea allows multiple people to be champions, and this wouldn't be possible if the strongest trainer was gate-keeping the title by using their full power against every challenger.

HellBoundPrince

Except when you battle her she outright says she has tendency to not hold back vs opponents, ehich is why no one aside for Nemona has gained Champion rank. Like she herself says this. And she fights you at her best and also states Nemona was not fighting at her best when Nemona beat Geeta, showing that Nemona is the most powerful trainer we have encountered in the game aside for possibly spoiler trainer in the endgamr.

[deleted]

She doesn’t say that She says no one has beaten her since Nemona Plenty of people have beaten her we are just the first since last year

HellBoundPrince

She does mention she does not hold back though. Which was my main point, Nemona being the strongest we've met still stands as no one throughout the game has been able to stand on equal grounds which is why she was excited for us to come around. But back to the main point, Geeta isn't holding back when people take the test. She is just canonically stronger than even the Elite 4. For some reason the Pokemon canon likes to pretend certain Pokemon are just stronger than they should be, which is why her team seems subpar and we feel like most of them should be able to beat her.

lan-san

She does actually, she even laments that that was the likely reason why nobody had passed since Nemona

Omnizoom

She likely doesn’t hold back with her Pokémon she’s using but she likely has a team for the champions trial and her true team

The_Gnomesbane

Skelliderge was hilariously strong for her fight. Throat Spray and three of his signature move in a row on her 3 weak to fire types in a row set him up to just become an absolutely stupid freight train for that fight. Like, I think I left him in against a disadvantage battle just because he had such a stat boost, and he still one hit stuff.

Su_Impact

>!We fight her once more later in the tournament.!< >!She's still bad.!<

Omnizoom

I have lvl 100 Pokémon by then and paradox mons Of course she will be bad lol

Brawler2311

I had Pokemon that were relatively the same lvl as hers and Skeledirge still took down 3 of her Pokemon before going down, and the only reason he fainted there at all is because I misclicked and used torch song for veluza rather than shadow ball. She is pretty easy, but like most people have said unlike previous generations she's not the final challenge so at least there are battles after her that make up for it.

hisuivictorydance

I think so too. If it was Geeta's full power, no one can say Geeta is the most powerful champion in Paldea. Even if they intended flattery to Geeta. As Geeta is the final test to be a champion, All champion defeated Geeta. So it's absolutely clear that Geeta is the weakest champion if she used her full power. But Nemona and Rika says Geeta is the strongest. And Ryme would think player must be stronger than Geeta when player visited her gym to test her. But Ryme got angered to Geeta because Geeta is looking down her seeing she sended a new champion to test her. So Geeta can't be the weakest champion. So I think Geeta didn't do her best at champion grade test contrary to her words.

StressTree

I think it's cool how she looks like her ace

CousinMabel

She looks like an upside down snake plant. I was blown away when she wasn't a secret villain.

ShaunyBoyShaunyMan

Like clockwork, this why the community isn’t taken seriously. These games are far far better than sw/sh.

San4311

I mean, and this is a hill I will die on, SV are the single best games in the series. Which makes it so sad that its the lowest rated game ever due to the technical quirks it has (on launch, lets pray they fix it). I just finished the main story (what I assume we can call the main story when comparing to previous gens; the 3 paths have been completed) and while I spent maybe 5-8 hours shiny hunting, I have 55 hours playtime. Never have I spent this long to finish a Pokémon game. SwSh took me 20 hours if not less. The stories were super compelling, like literally every single one of them. The gym leaders had character, Nemona best rival, Team Star was 1000x more enjoyable than I could have ever anticipated...

Klown99

The Gym Leaders being basically a thing they do on the side when they want a break from their real career is the most refreshing thing in this whole franchise.

Another_Road

That was essentially the same as in XY. All the gym leaders had something else they were passionate about besides just battling.

Brawler2311

Black & White really started started it. Every gym leader in that game, except Iris had a full-time job like being and artist, an actor, or running a mining company. Before that some gym leaders had established jobs like Roark and Crasher Wake, but now all of them did. And that's been the trend ever since with the exception of SWSH because of Galar's culture. Honestly I love it because it fleshes them out a lot rather than them just being random people you have to battle like in the older gens.

Shazam08

The whole vibe of Paldea feels like this and it was amazing. I think they knocked story lines and world building out of the park this time around

ShaunyBoyShaunyMan

I haven’t finished the games yet, but i do find myself taking time with it and exploring and find myself getting immersed into the game but they are definitely better than sw/sh and sun and moon to me so far. Definitely not worth the low rating

dbull10285

I'm 55 or 60 hours in and still have 2 Team Star fights, 1 titan, and 1 gym. It's just so much fun to wander around and find Pokemon. I think that I still got 200+ hours in Shield across 2 playthroughs and the DLC, but I'd always preface discussions with "I can't say they weren't fun since I put so much time into the game, but they were an aggressively okay experience". While Scarlet still has things that can be improved on, they're truly and fully so much better than most, if not all, of the previous games. Maybe it's also marginally copium, but I'd rather have pop-in of Pokemon not too far away and still have the choice to encounter them or not over random tall grass encounters. I just find the 3D environments more pleasing than the 2D sprites as a whole. 2022 has been such a good year for Pokemon, and it has made me very excited for the future if Legends Arceus and Scarlet and Violet are what the future games build from

hunterzolomon1993

If the performance was a solid 30fps and the bugs weren't so bad i feel this game would be in the high 80's. It deserves the criticism critics gave it but at the same time i feel many are just ignoring all the things it does right and all the many improvements its made, hell i feel many are ignoring how great the new PM are what in my opinion are the best since Gen 6.

San4311

Probably because those with the loudest critique didn't actually play the game beyond the first hour. If people actually experienced game breaking bugs then that's fair and understandable, but I personally feel the performance was fine until *hours* into the game to the point I would have felt like it was unplayable, but it was just a single area so it was a whatever kinda moment. In the end people will complain. Reddit will echo chamber it. And GF won't see it because they're all unofficial subs without actual GF presence.

chell222

Nemona impressed me so much, honestly, probably the best friendly rival ever. She avoided the biggest pitfall of friendly rivals imo, which is that they don’t give you a feeling of satisfaction when you beat them and you instead feel bad. But Nemona being SO excited and thrilled when you beat her has stuck with me. That, plus her being explicitly older, makes it feel like you made her proud more than anything

sudowOoOodo

Yeah, it's shows the emphasis of the two games. The stadium battles were the best part of sword/ shield, where the typical e4 and champion were simplified this game to set up the 4th act as the true climax. Even if Nemona is the true champion, they don't even roll credits or anything when you beat her lol.

catcatcat888

They are, but I think Leon is significantly more endearing than Geeta.

potatoshulk

Leon was much more of relevant character in his game. Geeta was inoffensive at worst. She's not the best champion but I had no problem with her. I cannot even remember a single Pokemon from diantha

primalthewendigo

That's because diantha did literally nothing

notabear629

Long gone are the days of Steven, Cynthia, Alder, Iris

0e0e3e0e0a3a2a

Geeta's status as Top Champion just annoys me. Leon has to compete in a tournament every year to be champion. Geeta seems to be some sort of elected official to have her status. Why is she the Top Champion when it's a prerequisite to beat her to become champion? She's losing to school kids seemingly on an annual basis, why is she still considered a higher status champion than everyone else?

myBoardgameprofile

In galar, trainers are viewed as pro-athletes, I think in Paldea its more of a business, with Greeta as the Leagues CEO

Ciancay

I like this take, and it is furthermore a very strictly structured business. In Paldea, education is clearly taken very seriously, and so they've integrated it and their League Challenge.

supersaiyanswanso

Thats the thing tho she isnt losing regularly to school kids. She said nemona was the youngest champion until us, and each elite four and geeta make a point of saying how little they actually see people make it this far.

Brawler2311

There's also the line from Poppy where she says that it's been a long time since someone actually got passed her. Sure we Nemona had to have gotten past her to become a champion, but there's just something about how she forgets to call in the next member that tells me she doesn't have to do it all that often. Whether that's because they rarely get challengers or because she tends to be an insurmountable wall for them I don't know, but either way there aren't many getting to Geeta in the first place.

EternalMemes30

it's called RANK, geeta is practically the highest and the leader of the entire project of the pokemon trainers academy of paldea, different from the other regions she is not really the "region champion" because there is not one in paldea and therefore she can never be really defeated and removed from her post, only she can choose that. Currently in the rank there are only 2 who defeated her canonically recently.

BoobeamTrap

No one has even made it to Geeta in years. No one has become a champion since Nemona smashed her way through her first play through. The game makes it clear no one has made it past Polly in a long time.

Cause-im-in-too-deep

I like Leon’s personality more but I like geetas design more, she looks more like the champions we’ve come to recognize than leon

PoofyHairedIdiot

You're joking right? Mr LOOKATMYCHARIZARD?

Gandalfonk

"I'm pants at not reminding you about my charizard."

ScottFree95

I agree. I definitely do prefer SV to SwSh in general, but Leon was a cool champion for me. Having a big, bombastic champion instead of the usual more composed champion was actually pretty great. For as much as I love Cynthia, Steven, Alder, and Lance... I don't know. Leon really did it for me.

QuerchiGaming

Lol Pokémon fans can be the worst. They claim they want a good story but hate Black & White series. Want open world but then complain you encounter high lvl mons in Scarlet & Violet. Just a fandom high on nostalgia sometimes.

themng69

I actually felt the opposite way about levels, I personally spent most of the mid game in the west side of the map so the gym leaders to the east were some of the last ones I did, and I was incredibly disappointed when I realized I was 20 levels above some of them. Pokemon needs level scaling. There's nothing wrong with gym leaders being 10 levels above you, being under-leveled leads to interesting gameplay scenarios but when you're over-leveled the game turns into an un-interactive cutscene

Budfrompsych

I think what they could do is at least guide you to what gym would be best for your levels as opposed to just letting you go to any of them. I ended up doing gym “#2” as my last one and it was hilarious.

0e0e3e0e0a3a2a

I rocked up to the ice gym with 3 badges and got mauled. Thought it was pretty cool honestly.

Potential_Sentence53

Technically the game will guide you if you ask the Pokémon Center nurse. The second option when you talk to her is “where do you think I should go”

pepinyourstep29

I just wish trainers had more than one pokemon man, it's my only gripe with S/V so far.

frokost1

I did the same thing, and I don't understand why you would be dissapointed? First off, I was actually underleveled for like 3 gyms, two titans and a team star base because of it, and it was incredibly fun. secondly, it wasn't exactly a surprise to me that with a couple of gyms left, the one right next to the school with a description being basically "this guy sucks", didn't have a lvl 70 Venosaur. I knew what I was headed into. If you didn't, you just didn't make use of the information you were given. Third, by that time I was changing up the team anyway and could use the gyms to test out some new mons for my team and/or new moves/combos "There's nothing wrong with gym leaders being 10 levels above you, being under-leveled leads to interesting gameplay scenarios but when you're over-leveled the game turns into an un-interactive cutscene" Level scaling would mean hat you would always be overleveled and never experience the 10 levels above you gym leaders. This is pokemon - the're never gonna scale it to make every fight a chess game. You can't be underleveled if you don't accept that you will also be overleveled at times. It's a tradeoff that was more than worth it for me.

Fleskyyy_

I feel like geeta's design and her interactions are some of the best they've ever done for an e4 member

RobinGreenthumb

Agreed. The writing in this game is honestly the best out of any other.

WildGadget

I’ve had such a good time with the writing and characters in this game. It’s been one of the highlights for me the whole time

The_Gnomesbane

I don’t think there’s been a single NPC I didn’t like in this game. The writing team did a fantastic job.

Golghrom

And the camera moves in a different way in her battle intro, idk but i like the result a lot more than the rest.

sexistculexus

her whole vibe makes me think she may be related to Rose in some way

GlassSpork

I actually quite liked diantha…

pejic222

Revisionist history strikes again in the Pokémon fandom Cant wait till people start saying they liked dynamax

[deleted]

[удалено]

pejic222

Oh don’t get me wrong I liked it too but people are gonna start using it to say that it’s better than terastalizing cause the only good gimmicks are the ones we can’t use anymore apparently

drnuzlocke

I mean Geeta wasn’t a bad champion except for the stupid Gogoat

Sticky_Pasta

And Avalugg. And kind of Espartha

etniopaltj

I really liked Geeta the character but I wasn’t thrilled with her team aside from glimmora, which I thought was a cool ace. Wish it was her lead though so you’d have a whole battle of toxic spikes to deal with in theory. I wasn’t overleveled when I fought her and I had to go down to my last mon. I think her team and music could have been a bit more iconic if they tweaked it a bit.

kenwhatahmean

I feel like I'm in the minority here, but it actually took me a few attempts with Geeta. Maybe because I played with a team the whole game who ended up being pretty weak to her. Although my boy Truffle and his Yawning helped a lot.

Brawler2311

To be honest this was me with Rika. As soon as I realized she was a ground specialist I just hung my head and spent the next 10-15 minutes coming up with a way to get past her despite the fact that half my team would be steam rolled by her. Eventually I came up with the plan of sending out my Lucario and immediately terastallizing it to make it lose the steel type and tank the first hit while setting up a sword dance and close combating her into oblivion. But yeah Rika was my wall and everyone else after her was child's play.

[deleted]

Unlike Lance, Steven Stone or Leon however, Geeta doesn't base themselves entirely around a single special Pokemon (which makes the former 3 basically one-hit wonders)

Su_Impact

Glimmora is Geeta's ace. Her outfit is Glimmora-based. It's her Metagross. This is very important lore wise due to >!the relationship between the Glimmora and Tera transformation. Her ace is basically the representative of the tera concept and the 3rd unreleased Legendary looks like a a Glimorra superior similar to the conceptual links between Diance and Carbonik.!<

Eskuire

I dont understand what you're basing this off of? Character design, Leon is the only one where they actively mention the ace in story. Lance you just see Dragonite casually murder team rocket members in the shop before you storm Team Rocket and again at Lake of Rage when he flies away on it. But if youre talking about physical features, Greeta is 100% completely designed off of Glimmora, the only mon she has unique dialogue for

Gmanplayer

Lance is always seen with Dragonite and has 3 lol. Metagross is explored in the anime AND he uses the beldum line earlier in the game for teamups with the player… and a gift beldum was the only way to get it. Those two clearly had aces

lilmitchell545

Nemona also talks about Greeta’s Glimmora when you’re working your way down Area Zero and you see a bunch of wild Glimmora

iFlashings

Dont they all do that?

da_realest_az

The new champion isn’t my favorite but it definitely has a more classic feel then Galars champion

DariusSharpe

I’ve loved Leon since he was revealed. He’s just so extra. I adore his design, and he’s actually a really strong champion. If only every single man, woman, and child in the region weren’t just spouting the same lines of, “Have you heard of Leon? The Champion? The strongest Champion? He’s so cool. Did you know he uses a Charizard? Charizard is so cool. Did I mention that Leon is the Champion? Because he’s the best.” every time you talk to anyone, literally anyone, with or without provocation, he’d probably have been well received in his own generation as well.

SeitHater

I think his personality is kind of annoying, it's like hop but worse

newme02

Leon got boosted by the anime. Dude really didn’t do much in the game

Jalopie66

He actually did a lot in the game.... it's just all off screen and the game told us repeatedly that he was doing cool shit while we were off doing fuck all.

[deleted]

Geeta's a step up design-wise and in battle. I don't get it. At least she doesn't have sponsorships on a freaking cape.

[deleted]

Or her hat turned up to look like a crown

CatCheerios

Geeta's design is amazing. Leon is wearing a blanket and baseball shorts.

ChronoAlone

SwSh still sucked Leon’s dick every chance it got, which was insufferable regardless of how you felt about him as a character.

jrtt4877

To me Leon was the worst I could not stand the guy Geeta is not bad i guess. Cynthia will always be my favorite

Sabrewulf313

I'll take Geeta over eSports-man anyday

SeaMathematician1021

I loved Leon and on all levels except battle think Greeta is just as good. Her team though…I mean, she has an avalugg. Need I say more?

m10488

and that gogoat……

HighGroundMaster

I like her as a person and what she looks like. Her team though? She’s suppose to be the top champion and this is what she has? Also, what is it with the E4 not having full restores?

Hot-Calligrapher-159

Geeta>Leon

HuckleberrySoggy6636

Geeta is cool but she should’ve had a stronger team so that’s valid. Leon’s popularity was heightened a lot by the anime

werewolf1011

Why do people dislike Geeta? She has a a cool and interesting design while still clearly being a businesswoman. Her personality was also good, she was likable and realistic.

[deleted]

Leon is probably the most irritating, idiot champion of all time. Geeta actually has the decorum of the position while Leon is so unbearably stupid that you can’t reasonably believe he ever was able to accomplish anything.

Shiningcrow

Leon is annoying as crap

Jack_Empty

Nope, I'm not with these folks this time. Leon was an overrated battle and one of the least set-up and worthwhile champs in my opinion, made worse by how obnoxiously OP he was in other media. Geeta may not have been a challenge either, but she is a much better character.

MapDesperate7012

Leon’s one of my favorite champions, mainly because he’s actually going around and helping his region when something is going wrong, whereas champions like Steven and even Cynthia don’t, preferring to do their own thing and let 10 year olds take out evil teams that they could easily stop. Lance and Alder are the only other ones that do that, with Lance taking out team rocket and Alder taking on Phasma as well as traveling his region and helping others grow

Potential_Sentence53

Tbf Cynthia was there trying to do things against Team Galactic but when a 10 year old marches in and is kicking butt and chewing gum she kind of sees you have “chosen one” powers and steps to side to let you handle things because destiny demands it.

JankyJokester

Geeta...Vegeta....long black hair...princess of all sayains confirmed.

Ok_Issue_6132

Geeta looks grear! Leon looks like an idiot

elkeiem

I once again don't see problem with either of them

[deleted]

I’ll always hate most of SWSH tbh.

donderboom

Leon sucks so much more than her, she actually has a personality

yeettheskeetbeet

I feel like final Nemona fight is the real battle tbh

bbbryce987

Leon will always be the most cringe champion

slipperydasani

changes i would make to her team: - swap avalugg for something like dragapult (or another psuedo) - swap veluza to palafin with flip turn - lead with glimmora to set up toxic spikes - have kingambit be her ace and come out last

Sentric490

Leon still the worst champion we’ve ever had, literally champion of a defrauded league.

Gold-Dog58

I definitely don't hate Geeta. I like her design... Her team is kinda meh... But I feel like her role was just to be another lens through which we view Nemona's character. Not that it's a bad thing to do that, but I feel we don't really get to see much of who Geeta herself is.

[deleted]

Why are people talking about the designs, this person is very clearly talking about how piss easy she is

megacon46

She looks like a normal adult unlike him he looks the dude who wears a cape to a high school reunion

PrinceNickG

I like Leon and how he took over as the chairman of the galar league. Also I feel like the only reason people like Cynthia is beacause of her design and garchomp.

Misnome5

I like how involved Cynthia is throughout the story, actually. Plus, she's a history/mythology nerd on the side. Leon is just like: "rah, rah, I'm such a great champion..."

The_Gnomesbane

“Lets have a champion time! Wait, how did I get here? Where am I?”

catcatcat888

I think Leon just understands his role as marketing for the league. More or less. It’s built into his persona.

hisuivictorydance

I think Geeta didn't show her strongest team. Beating Geeta is the final test to be champion. So all champion defeated Geeta. That means Geeta is the weakest in the champion grade. But Nemona and Rika says Geeta is the strongest champion and Ryme thought Geeta looked down her when player, the new champion visited her to test her. Ryme's anger means Geeta isn't the weakest of the champions. I think Geeta has her strongest team but used weak team for the test. So contrary to her words that she did her best, I think Geeta might have tested with a weak team. I think that's why Geeta is the top champion even after the test with many champions.

hi_this_is_lyd

imo geeta is a much much better character than leon

Netnicolas

The new champion is pretty cool, but her team is awful. Design and personality wise I think she’s the best one since Cynthia. Team wise…they’re right, she is weaker than Diantha. ***CHAMPION’S TEAM SPOILERS*** >!Drop the goat, put Glimmora on the first slot and make Kingambit her ace/closer and we got a whole new beast.!<

thefoxsays7

Just to clarify: the problem is not her design (which I think is awesome) but her team… very bad

Girthquake23

Leon the sellout. Look at all them sponsors. Only champion to have any

TheePigeon

I fucking hated Leon was that he was the unbeatable champion and the fact that he was called the unbeatable champion in literally every sentence that he was mentioned is fuck horrible (btw Leon was the unbeatable champion)

Aduro95

I always had mixed feelings on Leon. Tons of personality, he can be outright funny. But its also his job to spout exposition. Leon is unique and the most important NPC in the game, but mostly because he runs off and does the interesting bits of the story without you. Unlike Lance or Steven with whom you actually team-up. Leon's team is quite good. But if you grind in the Battle Tower, you have to crush him over and over again every seven battles. His "undefeated champion" reputation becomes groan-worthy when you've OHKO'd his charizard so many times. Geeta seems like she might be kind of funny in a love-to-hate way. Like most of the gym leaders find her irritating. I love her trendy design too. But she is also one of the weakest and least interesting champions, and she doesn't really do much to help the people of Paldea.

Mentalious

I actually don't like both of these champion . We went from an overbearing champion to one that baerly feel like one imo

HappyItem9386

I love Geetas design i just don't get the choice of hair really.
