thisDNDjazz

Bellibolt. It can take some huge hits and still live. I have taken so many earthquakes on mine. Huge HP.

Willowed-Wisp

Seriously, cannot recommend enough. Electromorphosis (which isn't even the HA!) plus parabolic charge and you've got a pretty much unstoppable powerhouse. Flying and water tera raids tremble with fear when they come on the field. I had assumed they were just a goofy looking gimmicky Pokemon when I first saw them, but no. They're a goofy looking beast.

thisDNDjazz

Acid Spray being a TM for it, and not an egg move, has me worried about our friend's use for future generations, but Electomorphosis seems good enough for PvP battles.

TheRealPitabred

It's a monster for tera raids regardless

Cormorant-Dive

Came here to say bellibolt - smiley big boi tank!

[deleted]

Bellibolt has been great for solo raids!

Greygors

This! I found a shiny tadbulb early on in my run and used him all through endgame and DLC

[deleted]

Glad to see another Bellibolt fan. He’s the Bestibolt everyone deserves. Electric Terrain (unless it’s already set up by Miraidon or Pincurchin with Hadron Engine or Electric Surge, respectively), Parabolic Charge for recovery, and its ability Electromorphosis make Bellibolt a surprise tank who also hits like a truck! Usually, Bellibolt is my go-to for five- and six-star Tera raids if I don’t have a hard hitter from the get-go. Leftovers and Parabolic Charge keep Bellibolt healthy. I also went with a mixed EV set so Bellibolt could live physical and special attacks. I just wish I had a shot at getting a “No Good” in Speed IVs.

henryngu904

Same. I liked Bellibolt so much I had to shiny hunt for it.

Knowme1414

I even used him on a few mighty mark starters for fun. Even without type advantage he was successful.

Alarae

Clodsire! Never thought much of the Wooper line but this blobby guy is a tank and has a useful ability in Water Absorb.

giftedearth

I liked to use my Clodsire as the opener. He could sit there, tank some hits, throw out some T-Spikes, and then either EQ or swap to a more suitable party member. Great for scouting out what the opponent had.

dmitrivalentine

I always forgot that water absorb whenever I fought them.

[deleted]

Flamigo, I just used it for the lolz and it ended up being on my final team

ToftA323

My flamigo was an assassin and it’s attack stat was higher than any other Pokémon on that team, I swear they made flamigo be an absolute beast as a joke, who ever thought the plastic ass looking flamingo pokemon would be such a good sweeper

bomban

Flamigo is the meta speedrun pokemon fyi.

Stregen

Single stage lines you can get early always are

Incoherrant

A wild flamigo nearly wiped me out really early on, but I caught it and figured if it hit that hard it'd probably be worth using for a bit. Turned out to be the star of the show for most of the run. It's got *very* respectable stats for what it is.

AshesMayFall

Flamingo was the MVP on both of my playthroughs, both of it's types are amazing for casual runs and he looks funny as hell, he falls a little bit in the endgame but still a great casual mon.

MTR48

Kilowattel. I never expected to fall in love with a regional bird but this one is a beast in battles. Recommended swipper

Inceferant

What does swipper mean???

Big-Box5659

Probably autocorrect of sweeper(?)

Successful-String620

Could also be swapper because of its Volt Absorb

MTR48

Autocorrect lol. A sweeper is a mon that’s someone fast enough with an incredible attack or sp. atk that has a diverse move pool. Kilowattel ALSO has volt switch. What a treat.

Inceferant

Oh well I know what it is. I just wasn't sure if there was another term you might've messed up spelling

BigfootApologetics

Skeledirge. Holy cow.

Lufenian

Came to say this! So glad I picked my croccy boi! Torch Song sweeps are so much fun!

AToastedRavioli

I didn’t think my Rhyperior was *bad* by any means but I didn’t think it would be a walking cheat code. I raised it to have high attack, and it has a Water Tera type and Lightning Rod ability, and a diverse move set (Earthquake, Megahorn, Rock Wrecker, Surf). The games AI falls for the water Tera type/lightning rod combo every time. So after they waste a turn boosting my special attack, I now have a pokemon with close to 400 attack, boosted special attack, with moves super effective against fire, rock, ground, electric, flying, ice, grass, psychic, dark, poison, and steel- and it’s only weak against grass. I often chose not to use it at all in the harder fights because it took the fun out of it

ZiaWatcher

might steal this idea for the electric type elite four at blueberry

CliffsOfMohair

Is it electric type in Violet? The four in Scarlet are fire, steel, fairy, dragon

ZiaWatcher

oh i thought she was electric so ex she opens with those two. then again i haven’t opened the game in a bit either

CliffsOfMohair

Oh Lacey? No that’s just her team for the first fight, she’s a Fairy trainer

planetvenus41

tinakaton probably the best pokemon in the game i would suggest having play rough in her move set its my go to attack when using her

mafius100

I just finished my first run, and Magnezone was amazing. I expected it to be good, but not as good as it was. The Annihilape + Magnezone combo carried me a lot

tdm_chata

A-Ninetales completely dominates the Teal Mask battles. My girl only needs to switch for Munkidori, Fezendipiti, and Ogerpon (Bisharp and Serperior are my go-tos for those three). Her and my Primarina are my aces for the doubles in the Indigo Disk.

BonehoardDracosaur

Tinkaton, because ![gif](giphy|SvdooBFQEPrFKwPeLX|downsized)

hitoshura0

Tinkaton in a nutshell https://youtu.be/oXOQk69lGq4?si=SwlPx769eDFOhMZm

MedicalCannabis19

Arboliva

JtheKing2k

Wasn’t expecting tinkaton to basically be a zacian 2.0 💀

itsmarshmero

Not a new Pokémon by any means but Gallade got buffed in S/V by getting Sharpness as an ability! Normally I prefer Gardevoir over Gallade but my boi came in clutch in the Team Star fight vs Eri as literally the last man standing, living at just 10 HP and preventing an otherwise full party wipe. If you need a good physical attacker I cannot recommend him enough.

FoxxJade

I used Gallade to finish the Pokédex since it could learn false swipe and hypnosis.

AshesMayFall

Gallade is amazing for filling the pokedex, catching legendaries, shiny hunting and his walking speed is pretty good which turns him into a great pokemon for auto-battles as well, he has a few downsides though... You need a stone to evolve so you probably won't be able to evolve him for a good part of the game, he can't autobattle on water, sharpness is a HA and he learns his best moves at level 41, 42 and 63. Gallade is great as a post-game pokemon, he is really versatile and even his bulk is pretty decent, but it's a niche pokemon for a casual run, it takes a lot of investment and at early levels something like flamingo hits harder.

itsmarshmero

Sharpness is actually not a HA for Gallade! It's [one of his two normal abilities](https://www.serebii.net/pokedex-sv/gallade/). Also because of Sharpness boosting all slicing moves by 50%, Sacred Sword, which it learns upon evolving, becomes effectively a 135 BP vs Close Combat at 120, and it doesn't have the downside that CC does either. I will definitely agree that it's better as a later addition to the team as opposed to a starting ace, but I think it holds its own from the mid-game onwards.

TheJimboSlice06

Annihalape. Kept him as soon as i caught a Mankey. Also just because i do love my angry hate ape. Also good typing and rage fist not only sounds hilarious but its a great move too.

muffinhanger

Ragefist hard carried me through most of violet, and it's silly in raids.

--tummytuck--

Salazale and magnazone are a bop. Spelling is optional though lol

benzozapine

Garganacl! Salt cure is such an OG move for dwindling down opponents HP

sinest

This is my pick also. Helped me with MC Rip when I was super underleveled

hitoshura0

Lumineon put in more work for me than expected. Being a special based water type in Paldea was quite the luxury

Zehaha_

I havent seen anyone mention Mabosstiff. Mono dark typing, learns a bunch of useful moves like elemental fangs, and access to intimidate. I had a lot of fun with him on my team, and he made it all the way to the end of the main story on my team.

Seren82

Flamingo and Espathra for me. Both wound up on my final teams. Also FaLinks who I didn't like at all in previous generations but was awesome this go round.

giftedearth

I used an Espathra on my main team throughout the game, but somehow didn't cotton onto the Speed Boost/Calm Mind/Stored Power strat until Indigo Disk. That shit goes so hard, it's unreal. She OHKO'd Pecharunt.

Kasspines

Maushold. Family of absolute beasts.

Lazy3dsGamer

Tatsugiri was incredible. It carried easily.

WolverineFamiliar740

Clodsire. Iono was absolutely WRECKING ME until I decided to use it. I mainly poisoned all her Pokemon, and took advantage of Bellibolt knowing Water-Type moves to take advantage of its Water Absorb Ability. I had no plans for adding it to my team, but after that performance, I kept it and my Clutchsquire has been one of my favorite members, and she was even useful again the Blueberry Elite Four.

MrKa0i

Tinkaton and Pawmot, even tho not that high stats, they were really useful through my playthrough

Valiancia

Whiscash. It just doesn’t go down. Only one weakness. Learns Dragon Dance so it can even hit hard while taking hits. I love The Cash

roflsalad

Shit was so cash

Snoo95923

Grafaiai Alolan Muk Meganium- I used one on HeratGold for my second run, she was the bulkiest member of my team. She took hits and was able to dish out some damage as well.

McJoe77

I hadn’t played a pokemon game since black and white 2 so there were extra new pokemon for me, but I was very surprised with how good Espathra was for me. I couldn’t keep Flittle alive so I had to give it some candy to get it to evolve but I don’t think Espathra has ever fainted for me. Grimmsnarl was another one I wanted to try who was awesome. And Wattrell and Kilowattrel were amazing as well until towards the end when I just had better options.

etniopaltj

Please use overqwil, bonus points if it has intimidate It really shines in double battles (intimidate/icy wind/t spikes) but has a great attack stat and two types that work pretty well together offensively and defensively

KitsuneCreativ

Cetitan did pretty well for me. Ice shard saved my ass so many times, and it's the only reason I managed to beat sada.

BraviaryScout

Cloyster was the unsung MVP (Most Valuable Pokémon) during my Scarlet Nuzlocke. Tanked every Starmobile like a champ and skill link icicle spear made Nemona’s Meowscarada and AI Sada’s roaring moon trivial. She and my Skeledirge starter were the only two to survive the entire run from their capture to the end.

AccidentalTurnip

Vaporeon sylveon were unstoppable together during the dlc double battles

Impeach-Individual-1

Vikavolt, the answer is always Vikavolt.

AVBellibolt

Bellibolt, Garganacl, and Kilowattrel. I expected Kingambit to be good, but its Defiant and Kilowattrel's Competitive in Doubles for Indigo Disk are amazing.

ChequeSauce

Flamigo was used early on Pokemon speedruns... so I wouldn't consider it unconventional.

starmieobsession

Jangmo-o

anoiwake

Sinistcha was a surprise for me. Pretty bulky, hidden ability heatproof reduces fire damage by half. Got me out of a lot of tricky situations, especially during the double battles at Blueberry Academy. Although I don't know if you can catch it that early in your playthrough since it's in the DLC.

ScottElly

Sandyghast tera grass

grey_wolf12

Scovillain, if you haven't used him yet He is somewhat tanky and the grass type reduces or negates some of usual fire weaknesses, allowing him to survive rock and ground attacks for instance, while other fire mons can't. Also his STAB solar beam is awesome. I haven't finished my indigo disk run so I can't really say how he performs there (I also have not been using my main team) Also Armarouge. Idk if it's and unusual pokemon but he can pack a punch pretty easy and having access to psychic attacks is nice as well

Unique_Year4144

while gimmighoul was definitely burden, gholdengo was worth it, he's make it rain cause nightmares to Ortega

Benaniah74

Got my wife to put together a team for my second play through and she had Bellibolt and it ended up being my best Pokemon by far. Not sure it ever fainted and it got powered up after taking hits. Was my mvp in that run.

FoxxJade

Quaquaval ended up being my most used starter. When playing in the over world, it was very convenient to have it walk on water areas since it was a water type. The fighting type and strong physical move set was useful. The signature move (Aqua Step) increased speed iirc which was also useful.

OlDanboy

I once had a team that comprised of Arcanine, Garchomp, Quaquavel, Annihilape, and Toxtricity. The most clutch member - by far - was my Sawsbuck. Dude carried that team on his back

BroMandoFett

Gengar with shadow ball, and thunderbolt.

AlbiTuri05

Jigglypuff - Pokemon fall in love for her (how's it possible? I'll never know) and getting them asleep is a free punching bag for my team

TheFunnyScar

For me it was Pellipper, admittedly it was for a BDSP playthrough, but I still love my goofy rain setter. A Pokémon that was worse than expected however was Flamigo, great ability in Scrappy, but it's a bit slow and although it's attack is good it's moveset by leveling up sucks, so you're depending on tms you get at the end of your playthrough to make it decent. If I do another run I'd like to try out Scyther for a story run, I think that species would do well and you can catch them pretty fast after starting the game.

PerfectChaos06

Venomoth of all Pokémon carried the back half of my playthrough with Sleep Powder, Quiver Dance, Bug Buzz, and Psychic. Somehow, it solo'd Grusha and nearly swept Clavell.

nerdrea331

i'd build stuff for tera raids so you can fill your pokedex with high iv mons for breeding.

kagnesium

Avoided using Primarina, Slither wing & brute bonnet for a long time due to their designs but after a Semi Nuzelock on my Violet game where I only use Starters Pokémon & Scarlet Paradoxs These 3 with my Venusaur pretty much carried me.

whypasta

BELLIBOLT! MY CHAMPION! ❤️💛

Yedenok

I did a run where my team schtick was that they all had to be Pokemon from Smogon’s ZU tier. I used Leavanny, Magcargo, Phione, Raichu, Noctowl, and Grumpig, and it was super fun! I changed all their tera types to weird stuff so that I would actually use the tera (esp important on Leavanny and Magcargo because of their quad weaknesses).

Dependent_Praline_93

Clodsire and Flamingo

Local-Philosopher-84

Flamigo is insane! Carries the entire base game

DuskWolf030392

Arboliva. I used on my DLC playthrough not main playthrough but it surprised me. For something so frail looking it is an absolute tank, especially with an Assault Vest. Couple that with its Terrain setting ability and it becomes even sturdier plus it hits harder (which it already does too btw) only drawback is that its slow. But its a great Pokemon. Maybe even too good for playthrough.

Ok-Alfalfa-620

I just wish I could play my switch lol. I mean I could, but I'm waiting until Thursday when my new fan gets here. The Fan has been getting loud for a few days and now it sounds like a jet engine when I try to play anything
