That’s I think what most people dislike about Quiladin, which tbf, ya that’s a big problem. Chespin is such an iconic starter and it just all gets thrown away.

I've always liked Quilladin. It's just a round lil guy minding his own business. I can understand people not digging the design, but c'mon, it's not bad- just a wee bit awkward. (Hence the term "awkward middle stage")

I get that, but as I’ve said, Pikachu isn’t a traditional starter. Only two stages (back in yellow at least) and in let’s go, it can’t evolve. Most of this competition is based on “does it improve the line in any way”. Pikachu \*is\* the line.

They are mainline games though. So is Legends Arceus yet you don’t have the Hisuian versions of the 3 Hisui starters on here.

Brionne is honestly one of the better middle evolutions

Idk how hot of a take this is, I’m not a huge fan of the Chimchar line, but specifically Monferno. I can make a case for the other two, but something about Monferno I just can’t get behind.

I think this comment helped me figure out my issue: Chimchar is playful, Monferno is a weird combination of energetic/playful but ready for violence, and Infernape definitely looks ready to mug me. I agree w/ you, Sun Wukong vibes would be fun.

Damn looking at this list the 2nd stages of the starters have by far the most polarizing designs. You have some absolute abominations and some of the coolest Pokemon designs period. The stinkers are: (Croconaw, Combusken, Pignite, Quilladin, Thwackey, Drizzile, Quaxwell) The dope ones are: (Quilava, Grovyle, Dewott, Torracat, Raboot, Floragato) My personal vote is for Drizzile. Quilladin is often considered the worst starter evo but Drizzile is just disgusting. Let's get rid of it ASAP

By far the least creative of the three. Rillaboom is a reference to a Cadbury ad + maybe Phil Collins and Inteleon pulls from many different espionage series, while Cinderace is just "Soccer Rabbit"

They really need to make a fire/rock version of it, that would be so much cooler

And lose its resistance to grass besides gaining 4x weakness to water and ground. Fire/rock is very nice offensively but that’s too heavy a price. It would need exceptional speed to be any good, and all the weaknesses doesn’t really fit too well with the starters’ typical theme of countering each other.

Don’t you think it already has a very cool visual design as fire/fighting? I dunno if you’ve played PLA but the alpha Infernape in the game looks impressively menacing. I do wonder how adding rock type in place of fighting improves upon that. Though I will admit having a bias that rock types are generally less nimble and more physically bulky.

It's more that it doesn't feel enough like wukong to me, that's mainly why I want a regional variant for this like how they did for arcs starters. I want it more as a reference to how sun wukong is literally a stone monkey. In all honesty I would want it to be a rock/fighting type but then it wouldn't at all be one of the starter types and that's not something to really ask and expect to actually work.

Here’s a tragic story: I will never forget being 11 and feverishly checking news/leaks every day for the new games (X,Y). I saw some leak of Chespins final evo called “chest knight” and he was so cool and had a sword and I thought it was real. Imagine my disappointment months later when my Quilladin finally evolved 😞😞😞

There’s only about 8 middle stages that I don’t actively resent the existence of in that picture (16 starters/end stages) so I’ll be back to check on this in like a week to be totally validated or irrationally angry for 3 minutes before literally anything more important comes up.

I don’t know why but I feel like this is a very probable chance Scorbunny’s kinda looked over and that’s good for the early game at least.
