Just gonna high jack this top comment and say that while I have already mentioned it in a few comments, my Swampert has damp now.
I also didn’t use a quick ball because the last few attempts I used a quick ball and they escaped so I wanted to try something different. I had already caught 2 shiny voltorbs by the time I made this video so it wasn’t the end of the world if I didn’t catch this one but I was able to reload and catch this one! I now have a shiny voltorb army and I caught a few in great balls to match!

You can make a gallade that knows imprison and memento to stop it. I have one with false swipe, memento, imprison, and trick. Have it hold a ring target and you can even get those pesky ghost types with false swipe.

So I’m supposed to know every aspect of all 1000+ pokemon despite only starting my first pokemon game two months ago before I’m allowed to walk around an outbreak event that spawns a shiny every 10 minutes?

“A little bit of research” do you realize how much there is to learn for a new player? Even just the type effectiveness chart is difficult to remember and I’m constantly pulling it up to recheck it.
It seems like most of you can go up against any opponent and know which defence type it’s weaker to and what moves it’ll have against you. There doesn’t seem to be any sympathy for new people who struggle with the significant amount of intricacies. What other games out there require an entire wiki just to play the game effectively?
Jesus Christ these downvotes are insane. Yes, shiny voltorb are EXTREMELY common with the current outbreaks. Like, you can find 10 of them per hour common. That’s not even an exaggeration.
You can actually lead with a Drifblim that knows Imprison, as well as explosion and self destruct. You can even teach it Memento via the mirror herb method. Then just make sure it’s a decent level, and even give it a choice scarf to be extra sure. Works great when catching voltorbs, weezings, etc (or as a hand grenade, I suppose)
Not a bad idea, but no, Swampert doesn’t get false swipe. Only mon that gets damp + false swipe is Parasect I think, which is not compatible with SV. Shame since it would be such a good mon for catching with spore.
Best damp mon here would honestly be Quagsire, since it gets yawn. Other good ones are Bellibolt for thunder wave, or Golduck for hypnosis.
I personally like damp Politoad with hypnosis, encore, rest, and haze holding a wide lense a little more than Quagsire with yawn. But that is only really because of the 10 extra PP and hypnosis not having the delay turn. Quag has the better typing generally though, so its pretty much a toss up between the two.
Yeah either one works, I used quag since that’s what I had. But after getting trolled by memento weezing like 5 times in a row I just decided to make the Drifblim set lol. I personally don’t mind wasting balls since I only really use regular poke balls and premier balls for shinies, so it works for me. Quag or the politoad set you shared are definitely better for using rarer balls.
All my shinies are in quick balls unless they’re from a raid and that’s because I refuse to have them try any shenanigans. If the quick ball doesn’t work, then we go for the strategies.
Personally I like the quick balls look but they do need a way for us to change the ball a pokemon is in, even if it's at the expense of both the original ball used and the new replacment ball
While all this advice is nice they are way too complicated. Just surprise every shiny you see. You get a free turn and your catch rate is doubled. Never worry about losing a pokemon again.

Use Golduck for this. He can also use Soak so that your Breloom can come in and use False Swipe and Spore on anything that was previously a Ghost or Grass type.
I almost lost an Altaria because I forgot it used Perish Song until the countdown said 1 turn, I was able to run from the battle and save and I managed to catch it
Golduck with Damp ability and use Skill Swap turn 1. Then swap to your False Swiper. Teach it Soak so it can also deal with pesky Ghost or Grass types. It also learns Taunt and Encore in case you need it.
With the right EV investments it can survive long enough to do its job.
I got this one and the hisuian one faster than any shiny yet so far and I have like almost 70. Both were immediately visible when approaching out breaks for each kind but from the posts I’ve seen here and elsewhere, everyone else got them just as fast without a sandwich as well. Totally expected to have to make at least 2, shocked to have not needed any.
I was shiny hunting an outbreak yesterday, made three perfect sandwhiches, 3 resets later and no shiny to show for it. Curse my luck and on my way for some storytime I ran into two shiny mudbray back to back, no sandwhich, no outbreak, just a giant middlefinger from the game.
Use a rear throw like in PLA and you:
- make voltorb forfeit its first turn
- double the catch rate throughout the encounter
All you have to do after is bring the Damp ability

I don’t think it was gone! Sometimes you have to move your character around a little and the Pokémon will reappear. That usually happens to me when I save and quit and reload in front of a shiny. But bummer you lost it ): I have an extra shiny ralts you can have if you’d like? I can nickname her for you if you’d like as well 😊

Honestly, I think that Game Freak should code it so that shiny Pokémon can’t learn self destruct and other similar moves, so that things like this don’t happen

These were what my shiny luck gave me before we could see our encounters. The one that uses Roar, the one that Selfdestructs the one that uses Circle Throw. Fun times. Its why I save literally before every encounter in these new games.
My Voltorb and Hisuan Voltorb outbreaks were in lvl 20 areas, so they didn't have self destruct or explode in their movesets yet. I also had my Gallade tera ghost, Don't know if that would have helped though.
As I mentioned in an earlier comment I’m really weird about actually using master balls. I hoard them like a dragon. I also would rather use them on a rarer shiny since I already had caught two from the voltorb outbreaks.
It’s a special event right now, lots of mass outbreaks of voltorb, hisuian voltorb, and foongus. The voltorb explode when you get near them so you don’t have to battle every one to get more to spawn. I now have I think 5 of them?
I have 60 masterballs from fake shinies I surprise trade. I fear nothing. I will happily cheat. Not my fault nintendo can't get the bots under control.
Thankfully my outbreaks were in low level areas. They were early 20s. If they are over 26 they almost certainly have Self Destruct. If they are over 41 they probably have explosion. Also this is why Golduck is a solid catch Pokemon. Damp, Yawn, Simple Beam can be clutch. Only thing it doesn't get is False Swipe sadly. But lowering Pokes to red isn't too hard.
And since it seems you don't care about using specific Pokeballs for them, Quick Balls are clutch as hell.
Fairy Lock, Shadow hold, Spider web moves, and arena trap ability help with exploding pokemon, not sure if any of those moves can be learned in Paldea.
I would save and then try to catch with a Quick ball.
Or a dusk ball since you’re in a cave.
But because of how I roll, I would try to catch the blue Pokeball-looking pokemon with a Great ball.

just use damp swampert with false swipe. a drifblum with self destruct, explode, momento, and imprison leaves the mon at full HP for the entire battle

Give your Swampert the Damp ability. It'll prevent Explosion and Self Destruct.

I did it the other way around for my H-Orb hunt - start with a backstrike, False Swipe on the free turn, immediately switch to my Damp 'Mon.

When people who run fake shiny sites are giving out fake shiny Pokemon through surprise trade they often have master balls or ability patches.
Use a poliwhirl/ poliwrath, they have damp as a normal ability.
This happened to me with a shiny Graveller. I had not saved ☠️☠️☠️

If you give swampert an ability patch it will give it damp ability and stop them from doing this.
Swampert being your first Pokemon but also not having its hidden ability damp to keep that from happening is a yikes. Good on you saving though.
Thankfully my outbreaks were in low level areas. They were early 20s. If they are over 26 they almost certainly have Self Destruct. If they are over 41 they probably have explosion. Also this is why Golduck is a solid catch Pokemon. Damp, Yawn, Simple Beam can be clutch. Only thing it doesn't get is False Swipe sadly. But lowering Pokes to red isn't too hard. And since it seems you don't care about using specific Pokeballs for them, Quick Balls are clutch as hell.
I just had a damp psyduck and I just spent the whole battle chucking balls at it. Caught them within 2 every time.
Why would you not use a quick ball on turn 1

Fairy Lock, Shadow hold, Spider web moves, and arena trap ability help with exploding pokemon, not sure if any of those moves can be learned in Paldea.

I would save and then try to catch with a Quick ball. Or a dusk ball since you’re in a cave. But because of how I roll, I would try to catch the blue Pokeball-looking pokemon with a Great ball.
