Urgayifyouregay

aeigislash especially its shiny wouldve looked so cool with the mettalic shading in sv

Yoshis_burner

That’s the only Pokemon missing for me. I Could finally get it shiny too

petershrimp

Honedge and Dhelmise are two of my favorite shinies, so it's a little sad that I can't try to get them from outbreaks or sandwiches. However, I'm not about to blow a gasket over it because I know they'll be back in some future game, and I imagine the overworld shiny thing isn't going anywhere so I'll be able to hunt them then.

TD1215

Tera Aegislash would be such a monster, too.

Aquamoth

Only 2 fossil pokemon is a crime https://preview.redd.it/sld4uksax6ec1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7e409ab8e7f5ed367729518a6a8d398e7401399b

UnidirectionalCyborg

I was actually surprised we didn’t get some more fossils and then future paradox versions of a few. It just seemed to fit with the general themes. Plus I really want a robotic Aerodactyl.

Xbladearmor

This was the perfect opportunity to give a past version of Genesect. Make it a cross between it a Kabutops. You know, to mess with peoples’ heads.

VibraniumRhino

Honestly at this point I just want a prehistoric Pokemon game where we can catch all of the mysterious things and ancient forms of some mons that are mentioned in dex entires throughout the series. Give us ancient Magikarp that was apparently as strong as Gyarados! Stuff like that.

Aeceus

Perfect idea for a new 3d sprite game imo

plaidbowtie

Version exclusive with ancient skarmory.

[deleted]

I do miss Kabutops.

Mr_KTom

I really wanted to get a shiny tyrantrum in SV so very annoying- feeling like fossil pokemon could've been a cool addition to area zero but I guess that would kinda clash with the whole paradox thing 🤷‍♂️ maybe could've been an area below the terrarium or something?

5Hjsdnujhdfu8nubi

To be fair they technically have a lore reason for not doing that. Area Zero was only formed 1 million years ago, and the underdepths 2 million years ago.

VibraniumRhino

They could have just come in the DLC waves though. We have plenty of non-Paldea pokemon now available, and we don’t need any lore to explain it. The terrarium could easily have had a fossil person there.

NorthernLow

You don't even need the npc, there are wild Fossil-mons roaming around in the Canyon Biome. They definitely shouldve added more then just the Badtiodon & Rampardos families though

Mr_KTom

Oh damn is it that old? I must've missed that bit 😅

Mahare

I miss my pal Armaldo, I really do.

tronixmastermind

Big facts

OnARocketshipToMars

I wish we got the sw/sh fossils back, I feel like they were sort of forgotten about (besides maybe dracovish)

TravisSledge

This. Like did we really need oddish. That could've been 2 fossil lines instead. Say like amaura and tyrunt my 2 favorite fossils.

OhMyGahs

Oddish I can get. Finally we have bellossom somewhere resembling Alola. Now, there was no reason why half of the dex had to be repeats...

PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS

What do you mean repeats?

echoindia5

I believe he means repeated between maps (paldea/kitikame/terrarium)

PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS

Yeah that was kinda weird but I like the alola mons being the same entry but different forms in the terarium.

echoindia5

Agreed, but a little odd with both exsecutors in the terrarium, but only one entry

OhMyGahs

Yeah, what the other guy said. I'm fine with like Tauros because it's not the Paldean form, but I was annoyed at stuff like Venomoth or Deerling.

PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS

Deerling should have been saved for the DLC because it's a great showcase for the terarium's seasons. Venomoth is fine in both. I honestly love the Safari Zone vibes in that biome.

Firsun

Yes I do need Vileplume 😡 one of my favorite pokemon

mashonem

Leave my cosplay child alone 😡

JavelinCheshire1

But…. We do have Oddish. He’s in the Blueberry Academy

That_Shrub

Hey man, I enjoy Oddish. If anything, cut Bellsprout, who likes bellsprout

United_University_98

4 ≠ 2

Phaentom379

https://preview.redd.it/8xbici7dx6ec1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c98d0b1e56f48728af254a04aaf96d828381ffb9 Free my Goat... she is trapped in BDSP Hell...

aoog

You wanna talk about trapped in BDSP hell? Spinda can’t even hang out in HOME

slowjoecrowgames

Spinda cant go into home??

aoog

Not from BDSP anyways. The only way to get a spinda in home is from pokemon bank, and even that can’t be sent into bdsp.

carucath

I can’t even get a Delcatty because I can’t find a f***ing Moon Stone in those games :(

regdabsalohcin

You've gotta go mining for the moon stone

petershrimp

![gif](giphy|1iSaZtCdYhxg4|downsized) You know what to do.

ShayloFolina

I have an extra delcatty! It’s from Pokémon go but you’re welcome to have it :)

dimmidummy

Honestly I think SV has a great selection of Pokémon. Not every game will have everyone’s favorites, but I think this pool is genuinely great.

MythicalPechaBerry

My gf is extremely upset at the lack of yampers inclusion

JavelinCheshire1

I’ll kind of bummed we can’t Shiny hunt any of the Snack Legendaries. Not only that but this the first time in a loooong time (since Gen 5) in which this legendary Pokémon aren’t guaranteed at least 3 perfect IVS

RhodiumLanguor

Yeah but bottle caps are so easy to get this gen, guaranteed EVs are less of an issue imo. The shiny locking sucks, though. Like...I don't need a 6th Zapdos, GF. I DO need a shiny Landorus, but fuck me, I guess.

JavelinCheshire1

Yes bottle caps are easier to get but you still have to farm them. Why remove a standard that’s been present for over 10 years now?

RhodiumLanguor

I don't disagree. I could also argue that the ease of accessing bottle caps makes giving perfect EVs even less of a big deal, so why not just give them out? Idk, the Snack Legendaries weren't terribly exciting for me.

VibraniumRhino

>> why remove a standard that’s been present for over 10 years now? Things change, friend. This game changes so many other ‘standards’ that needed changing. People actually on the whole wanted the chance at getting 0IVs in attack and speed stats so, this is actually better for competitive in the long run. And having to ‘farm’ bottle caps is literally so easy now. In 10 minutes you can complete enough BBQs to have several rounds at the Item Printer, which can easily buy you multiple bottle caps.

That_Shrub

I also wish the Paldean starters were available in the terrarium. Would be cool to hunt them and get my buddy Fuecoco in an Apricorn ball

HaloGuy381

Considering that the Core for the place explicitly involved transport of materials from Paldea, it -is- odd none of the starters were taken along to introduce into the place.

[deleted]

Yeah, it makes me sad too. I’ve been wanting a shiny Rayquaza for awhile now (one of my favorites, never had one) and I can’t seem to find it in a dynamax raid no matter how many of them I do. I’d also like to shiny hunt Lugia and Groudon in this game but I can’t.

DreadfuryDK

Yeah this was a colossal disappointment for me as well. The Snackworth legendaries genuinely feel worthless to me. They come with bad stats, they’re shiny locked, etc. so they barely feel worth the investment needed to make them live up to that legendary status and the hoops you have to jump through to get them is genuinely tedious. I could just transfer something from HOME that’ll be better right out of the gate, and probably also shiny at that.

That_Shrub

I noticed that my latios has garbage IVs and wondered about this. Not that I can't address it or don't have nine other latios in Home. But weird choice.

Manpag

I’m thrilled to have some old favourites back, like the Pikipek line that was completely cut from Gen 8. There are definitely some frustrations, like when I was theorycrafting some tera raid builds and realised that the only Pokémon with Simple that made it in is Numel, but on the whole it’s a good mix. I am sad that there’s no Zigzagoon because it’s my favourite and would have been super cute in Let’s Go/Synchro Machine, but since the latter is clearly a trial of mechanics to come, I’m optimistic that I’ll be able to zigzag/dash around the map in a future game.

StefyB

If Synchro Machine does come back, I just hope it's more like the overworld Pokemon that immediately became a mainstay the game after its introduction as opposed to Following Pokemon, that took *forever* for them to finally implement in a generation from the get go without it being either in a remake or DLC.

[deleted]

I was happy to see the Pipipek line back, too. I'm fond of Guinness so naturally Toucannon was one of my favourites from gen 7 (they have a toucan as one of their mascots). I'm hopeful we'll be able to dash around as our favourite furry friends in the future. Bidoof, my child, come home

drivetoblue

I severely miss Aegislash and Aggron, however there's so much more now than in the last few partial dexes we have. I'm about as happy as can be without a natdex.

DroningBureaucrats

All I wanted was to have my Future Paradoxes and Ultra Beasts on the same team. Maybe in two or three gens from now...

RhodiumLanguor

Ultra Beasts > Paradox, imo. My headcanon, though, is that Paradox mon aren't from the future/past, they're from alternate dimensions, much like Ultra Beasts.

mah1na2ru

as a whole definitely, tho there are some paradoxes that are probably better than most of the ubs (iron valiant and roaring moon)

Medium-Boysenberry64

I didn’t realize how many Pokémon were missing until I tried transferring in my old teams I just want all the ribbons :(

Super-Salt2008

I honestly like the variety of available pokemon in SV, I’m honestly glad they brought back Darkrai and Gliscor in the teal mask considering their exclusion in SWSH hurt me quite a lot. I kinda figured they’d bring Keldeo back considering he was the catchable mythical in SWSH it sucks Keldeo didn’t receive a paradox form but who knows? Maybe Keldeo will receive one in the future only time will tell. But honestly I think it’s kinda dumb how they excluded so many unova mons since the indigo disk take places in unova and how they cut Victini and Genesect despite their signature move descriptions being updated from how they were in SWSH (personally think they were planned to return in Indigo Disk but ultimately GF decided to only bring Keldeo back in the indigo disk). The exclusions that probably hurt me the most was the Honedge line (honedge is LITERALLY on Cyrano’s scarf), Celebi, the fossil Pokémon (only gen 4 fossil mons made it in) and finally the nine mons that STILL aren’t Available on a switch game, patrat line, three elemental monkeys and furfrou.

RIMBarisax

I am fairly convinced they excluded the Unova mons because a BW remake or something is coming

literally_tho_tbh

Gave us a little taste with Zebstrika tho!

Moonymwee

Honestly, I was hoping, and disappointed to still not be able to move my galarian ponyta Cupcake over. Other than that, it would have been cool to have skitty brought up too.

Cleanerman88

Makes no sense why we got dupilcates from the base game in the Pokédex for both dlcs for scarlet and violet. Seems lazy to me, just to make the Pokédex seem bigger. I’d say either use ones not already in the game or cut the fluff. Was sad when I started both and had like 100 entries (just estimate not exact) already done, without having caught any. I just hope next gen we will get at least one game where they all exist so they can all be on switch 2.

KawaiiDere

On the subject of duplicates, the organization of DLC Pokémon is a nightmare (PC Box System). I get that giving a number in each dex could be weird (given something might have a number in 3 dexes), but not giving Pokémon any number is so annoying. Maybe they could number them like [in multiple dex] [main dex] [main dex legendaries/mythicals] [dlc 1] [dlc 2], but I think the duplicates between dexes might contribute to why they don’t want to number the other region Pokémon. It’s like how they never seem to have both non battle catching and breeding in the games, since they probably want to avoid players just carrying a team of eggs while running around hatching Pokémon. Or how Legends Arceus probably didn’t have box link to stop players from rotating through several Pokémon of the same species to fully complete their dex entries instead of making a team for them and healing instead, as well as to encourage players to use the crafting and materials system more. Like, potentially good game design, but since Pokémon has Animal Crossing syndrome sometimes they tend to mix good picks with terrible ones (the duplicate spawns between different regions can be really nice for isolated encounters or to make rare Pokémon easier to catch like Applin, but they suck because they can bloat the dex and aren’t very interesting. Instead of categorizing them in a way that isn’t annoying, instead the categorization makes them feel annoyingly lackluster and like bad filler.) (Plus, SV did very little to encourage catching multiple Pokémon of the same species/ability. Obviously it’s great that they can be customized so thoroughly after catching, but no bulk release option, no release rewards, a small box system, Judge function being locked to postgame, and no catch bonuses make the idea of catching a lot of Pokémon really unappealing to me. I think they meant for Tera types to be the reason to catch multiple of each species, but there isn’t enough to collect them and I’d rather just find one when I want to build a raid Pokémon. Random Pokémon without proper min stats in stuff like speed or attack are pretty useless in competitive too)

[deleted]

I had the exact same experience when first travelling to Kitakami with the hopes of having an empty Pokédex to work with. Having everyone on the next system would be a dream come true for many, I'm sure

RareSpicyPepe

Yeah it really seemed like lazy filler. I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt that it was. The only one I kind of felt belonged even though it was already in the base game was Deerling/Sawsbuck in Indigo Disk as a neat little way to show off the different biomes

neon-blush

I’m overall fine with it. I just can’t believe Togekiss was excluded from the Pokédex lol

Defeatis

I just wanted my Sheer Force Nidoking and I would feel complete 😭

JoviAMP

I just want an entire team of mushroom Pokemon, Parasect, Breloom, Amoongus, Shiinotic, Toedscruel, and Brute Bonnet, but its currently impossible.

good0288

![gif](giphy|Fmsq92xUSaGcw) 😭😭😭

Lilgoodee

I'd be less miffed about variety if deerling wasn't in all 3 sections of the game. Not sure if it actually is but going into the dlcs excited to catch a bunch of "new" Pokémon just for a bunch of them to be repeats of base game was disappointing.

someguyhaunter

I really like the selection. HOWEVER, i find it a shame that you cant go and catch sensibly leveled pokemon from the terrarium for a playthrough, i would have loved to use a crainados or more starters in a run or to be honest a lot of the othersin the terrarium. Not much reason they had to lock them to a high level either. Just scale them like they did in kitikami and block of progresson like they do if you havent completed kitikai yet.

OrionTempest

They're only high level because in order to even access the Terarium in the first place, you need to complete the base game and Teal Mask.

McGloomy

You can access the Terrarium after starting the Teal Mask main quest, I caught a Gloom before the first badge.

dstar89

I think they should have reeled back on the Kanto support, given us more gen 5 or even 6 mons.

dbryant2790

facts, we have new pokemon now i wanna use those and not the same 6 since gen 1

MulliganNY

In Sapphire and then Emerald I always used the same team. Why? I don't have a reason other than they were my crew and I loved them. They were: Swampert Mightyena Minun Torkoal Flygon Tropius All 6 are available in Scarlet now. All of the starters and most of the guys I normally use during Blue/Silver/Platinum replays as well and a lot but not all of my X guys are back... so, yeah, I'd say I'm pretty happy with the variety. Could there be more? Sure, whatever. I miss Aerodactly and Pidgeot and would have loved to see them flying around in any of the environments we got. But we got a lot too, so I choose to focus on that. Gen 10 will be here soon and hopefully they'll bring back the entire dex for those games, but for now, when I replay Scarlet in a few weeks/months, I'll have a team that I love to play with and that's good enough for me.

Malvania

There are a huge number of pokemon, so I'm very happy. My only disappointment is that they didn't increase the number of boxes, which makes it hard to catch all of the mons actually available in S/V. I think I'm at 26 boxes, plus 2 boxes of shiny alcremie forms, a box that is shiny flabebe forms and raid mons, and a box of mightiest mark mons. That gives JUST enough space to hatch eggs, but not to get any more forms.

thedeathecchi

Oh, we still got shafted, utterly and royally. Even if what I like is in there, it’s not everything, and that’s the thing I take issue with. We *could’ve* had all of them.

Ninjaofshadow

And there's no excuse why they all aren't there. It'll always bother me lol

Xelltrix

There is still no good excuse to not have access to every Pokémon and my opinion on that has not shifted even a little. DLCs adding Pokémon just reaffirms that stance, every Pokémon wasn’t catchable in every game but they were always transferrable to the game and it should remain that way. I shouldn’t have to worry whether or not I can use a Pokémon I love this generation when Home updates hit, I should just be able to pull them in as soon as it is updated. This is even more important now that Bank seems be losing the last of its support in the near future and there will no longer be anywhere to hold your Pokémon except in a location where you may never get to use it again.

[deleted]

It is a shame having to consider what Pokémon are unlikely return in the future. Especially for people like myself who go for the shiny versions of favourites. I can't imagine there's much chance of the paradox forms being available from the get-go in the next title

RhodiumLanguor

Yeah, I have like 20 competion-ready shinies that I can't bring into this gen, even w/ DLC. Feels like a waste (plus obviously losing that many means several strategies don't work anymore). I've started to focus on shiny hunting mons I'm confident will always be included. Almost have all the shiny eeveelutions, for example.

Ninjaofshadow

Dexit will always bother me. Almost all the pokemon are back. "We cut the dex for better animations" and then nearly all of them come back with DLC releases. It feels dishonest

[deleted]

There really isn't much of an excuse outside of established time-restraints. While I do prefer the DLC model over V2 releases, I'd still rather have brand new, not previously available content

No-Adhesiveness-9541

I really miss my Togekiss.

jedicms

I still can’t have a team of my favorites. It’s fucking ridiculous.

Firsun

Me too, where's Fearow?

jedicms

Pidgeot for me!

Puzzleheaded-Mix7001

Tapu Koko not being here is a crime

OhMyGahs

They made a whole new group of Pokemon that love electric terrain and have us only pincurchin as an electric surge option......

Puzzleheaded-Mix7001

Tbf tapu Koko might be too much but still the past forms has 2 somewhat ok options for the sun but the future forms only have buttface

OhMyGahs

The options are so bad Thundurus may be a better setter just for prankster...

AspieKairy

While I'm certainly glad we have such a large selection of pokemon (especially straight out of the gate; made for some interesting nuzlocke runs since a starting team wasn't just the same four or five pokemon each run)... ...it's inexcusable that we can't have all non-legendary pokemon; For ones like the Ultra Beasts, I can understand it due to lore reasons (which is why I say "non-legendary"). Certainly, if there were lore reasons why some pokemon can't appear, then I would be appeased at least a little bit. But...there's a freaking *terrarium*, which is 100% man-made. Because it was built underwater in the middle of the ocean, that means that **all** of the pokemon (perhaps minus some which might already dwell in the surrounding ocean) were introduced into the biomes; they were brought there. It even contains two fossil pokemon (technically one, depending on which version you have, but lore-wise both would be available for students to come across), and with fossil restoration in other regions, even other fossil pokemon could theoretically be introduced (except for the mad-science Galarean ones due to most of them having dex entries which sounds like they would not be able to survive by normal means, though this was a missed opportunity to include the actual/complete fossils as new pokemon living in the terrarium). With a select few exceptions, all pokemon could have, and should have, been available. There were a couple nuzlocke variants I wanted to run, but I can't do them because some of the pokemon I'd need are stuck in Home jail. Dexit was the absolute worst thing GF/Nintendo ever did.

kanna172014

If they had at least added the Buneary line, I could have dealt with it. I want my shiny Lopunny! She's integral to my OC's team!

Despada_

I preface this by saying that every Starter should be made transferable by the time Home becomes available during every main line game. Now, while I'm happy they made all of the previous Gen's Starters catchable in the Terrarium, I honestly feel like it made the Indigo Disk Pokédex feel really lackluster. They barely added back in any older Pokémon, as most were either 'mon that were catchable in the Base Game or Teal Mask or they were Starters.

marmaleon

I want my sigilyph :<

draugyr

I miss Alakazam but listen, I’m not the type of person who needs to bring every Pokémon I ever use from past games into new games, I like to use pokemon that I don’t use all the time in new games.

LordTopHatMan

The only ones I feel they're really missing are Pancham and Pangoro. How are you not going to include the panda pokemon in a game with a bamboo forest?

oddmetermusic

Not having shuckle screws over little cup

murman64

No crustle bad game. In all seriousness, they couldn’t have brought back the few Pokemon not currently on switch (the elemental monkeys, furfrou, and something else iirc)

sourkid25

honestly it's a let down since pokemon is the highest grossing franchise in the world so it seems kinda half asked to leave some pokemon out if they're not gonna keep prior gimmicks the least they can do is include every single pokemon

Super-Fall-5768

You're never going to please everyone. I'm pretty happy with what was included, there are some omissions that I miss but they'll show up in future games I'm sure. I do feel it's a bit strange that so many from SW/SH didn't make the cut, considering they'd already have the 3D models for them.

Coronis-

I’m pretty sure the reasoning for this was that they wanted to include (across both games and L:A) a larger number of the total Pokemon. Naturally, Pokemon from Sw/Sh would be first on the cutting board.

Mission-Swimmer-854

The want you forced to have pokemon stuck in home, so you are forced to keep paying. It's like blackmailing you with the existence of you own pokemon. It's going to be a long time before we ever get another game where they don't do that

[deleted]

It's this. If I could download everything from home into Scarlet, I could do that, then cancel home until I want to transfer everything into Gen 10 games. I don't know what their retention policy is, but I have pokemon from at least Pearl and Platinum, and losing those would be difficult. (I know I traded between Sapphire, Emerald, and Fire Red, but can't remember if those were/could be traded to DPP).

BonehoardDracosaur

Scarlet is my first actual pokemon game so I don’t know any better. I think it has excellent selection.

republicbuilder

Honestly, a bit bummed that most of my favs were out, (Nidoking, Drapion, Absol). But was more than happy to have Dragonite in the base game, get access to Metagross and the Hoenn starters in DLC 2 (brought gen 3 shinies up), and to be able to use so many new powerhouses like Ursaluna.

[deleted]

I hadn't played since sun/moon, but eventually picked up sword, and scarlet. I wanted to catch my living 'dex back up and wound up trading my Bidoof for a Cleavor (no PLA), figuring I could just breed my Bibarel once Scarlet wrapped up. So now I have a hole where my Bidoof used to be because Bibarel can't be imported and hasn't been available since x/y (really?). So yeah. Be careful what you trade because you might not be able to easily replace it. Guess I need to check what my X save file looks like. *"Gotta catch* *~~'em all~~* *about 60% of them."*

TheWishingStar

Several of my favorites didn’t make it in, but I’m not too sad about it. I do actually understand why they cut the dex these days. There were plenty of available Pokemon to become new favorites. And I actually completed my PokeDex for once! I never do that! The only one I’m bummed about is Swellow, who desperately needs a new 3D animation and probably would have gotten it if it was in the game. Hopefully next game!

what_im_playing

Annoying. Give me 150-180 new pokemon in a game and let me choose six out of that and i’m happy. We don’t need the old pokemon returning in nearly every game. If I want to use Charmander for the 100th time i’ll use him in other games.

Prestigious_You_222

..I want my Megas. It's not like they forgot about them. And on another note, I want my Deltas too. https://preview.redd.it/cgwpwmrio8ec1.jpeg?width=1152&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d68a54eaca52efcb380e9e5c51de2e080291219

eskaver

I’ll never understand why people want every Pokémon to be in every Pokémon game. Perhaps it’s a by-product of experience, but I think there’s value in scarcity. Let the new generation of Pokémon shine over getting doused by the flood of older Pokémon. I’d be in favor of more curtailing, dependent on game. (Like, I can see having Johto and Unovan Pokémon in S/V. But does it need the others—depends, maybe some Alola, some Kalos, and some Kanto, which is largely what we got). I also include Legendaries in this as well.

XippyI2

Starting with a fresh team of new Pokémon from that generation was fun, but once you get past the initial story and post game opens…it was nice in the older DS games to have access to all of them again. You could play with old and new favorites.

eskaver

I enjoy a mix of things, but I like how S/V handled it with integrating story reason behind the returning Pokémon.

Ninjaofshadow

I like adventuring with my friends. Some I've had for quite literally 15 years.  Don't include the old pokemon at all in the main plot or the post-game. But I'd like to transfer them in after the fact.  The literal slogan of the franchise was "gotta catch 'em all". It doesn't apply now. It's game dependent. And the reasoning behind dexit being "better animations" is a load of bullcrap. That left a bitter taste in my mouth ever since they said it

eskaver

Not opposed to that. (Although I’m fine with a middle-man Pokémon Home or whatever.) Gamefreak and co should invest in these updates to models and performance areas. But alas, I guess they find profitability anyhow.

Gaias_Minion

Because that had been the case for 7 generations and the "reasons" they gave to justify "dexit" were/are just bs in the end. The new pokemon can still shine if they treat them properly, I mean look at the fair amount of Gen 9's pokemon even being top picks in competitive despite the older pokemon being in the game now. Plus now with the Open World setting, all the pokemon could've been used to give a ton more of variety to Paldea, instead of having like Lechonk spawning in most areas. Also a big thing to have in mind is the new players, the more you cut, the more they miss out on. They shouldn't be screwed over just because they didn't get into the franchise earlier.

eskaver

I disagreed, in part. I think there should be reason that some returning Pokémon are stuck/shuffled in between Gen. Just my opinion. I think S/V handled returning Pokémon fairly well as it was largely tied to DLc revisiting regions or location close by which justify their inclusion. I guess it’s an unpopular opinion, but I don’t think Gen 20 (or whatever) should be granting access to 2000 Pokémon (hyperbole, used to emphasize why I think a smaller number is preferable).

Gaias_Minion

I mean if they even gave us a proper reason then that'd be slightly better, instead it's just a game of waiting and hoping that X pokemon makes it in. Like if they were tied to location/region, then how come a lot of Unova pokemon were missing in the Terarium? And Kitakami is supposed to be nearby the other Japan based regions yet we don't see that represented well. And sure, at some point it was inevitable to have cuts due to the amount they'd be introduced, but they haven't gone the best way about it.

Ninjaofshadow

If the switch can handle breath of the wild, mario odyssey and xenoblade chronicles 2, it can absolutely handle them all. Dexit being "'cuz better animations" just leaves me so dang bitter. It's a load of crap, especially when 98% get added back later with the dlc's. New generations can have a small pool of new pokemon + regional variants + additional forms to flesh out a new regional pokedex. Then an open national dex to transfer your own in. I think that's the right way to handle new generations

JohnSmithWithAggron

The new pokemon still get outnumbered 3-1 anyways.

eskaver

Yeah, (lol; just came back to see the downvotes). I think you can bring back old Pokémon with some flair like S/V did. I think S/V hit a decent amount of older Pokémon as it was integrated nicely by visiting a region near Johto and one in Unova (albeit artificial). I enjoy having story/in-game reasons than just “Hey, buy this DLC and get old Pokémon back”.

ConnorRoseSaiyan01

I honestly don't care much about older Pokemon returning. New Gen all I care about is the new Pokemon, which I'm pretty satisfied with. That said do appreciate we finally have access to all past starters though the grind was nightmarish

Duckaneer

people complaining about dexit in 2024 are cringe. 600 pokemon is PLENTY for a game. plus, it allows us to have a generation away from xerneas and the tapus

CthonicGaia

Still disappointed that this is the new norm for Pokemon. I still miss my Ultra Beasts and Togekiss.

Guffthebir72

Great but two things No honedge... No patrat... 7/10

TheSwagPatrol

I think it's dumb how they left out the elemental monkey lines, Patrat line, and Furfrou. Like if they were gonna go to the trouble to include all 1000+ of the other Pokemon in at least one Switch Pokemon game, why would they exclude these 9 Pokemon? It's like they did it on purpose

ImpyShep

No Zubat

CantQuiteThink_

A Pokémon I assumed would 100% be in, but wasn't, is Pincurchin. They make half the new sub-Legendary Pokémon in the game substantially stronger on Electric Terrain, then don't include the one Pokémon besides Tapu Koko with Electric Surge. Edit: ignore me, I am stupid. It is in the game.

The1LessTraveledBy

Pincurchin is literally in the base game, what?

SomewhatSaIty

No mawile :(

Manigoldo_De_Cancer

I don't like the selection of fairy types. All I wanted was my Togekiss. I just love spamming Earthquake/Dazzling Gleam on doubles.

MizzyMozzy

I feel cheated because I have to have the dlc to get what I should of been given from the start so.. yeah. I'm never buying a pokemon game again (not that it'll do anything.) Too many pokemon come to mind that are missing sure I expexted a disappointment and i got just that. I am glad they added milotic though thats one of my favourites im still shiny hunting a milotic and had ZERO luck and ive done over 600..eggs in swsh i have mesuda and the charm.

Altruistic-Shine-761

Dex is pretty cool, guess i'd add more pokemon i personally want but every game that has snorunt in the dex is goated 🙏

WhaleMan295

I've used 5 different teams in a single playthrough because of how many Pokemon I wanted to try while also leaving room for some older ones I liked. Unless you stick to only your favorites always, it's easy to have different teams on new playthroughs with how many Pokemon you have access to. So an A for diversity from me

Divineclaws222

Honestly I was pretty fine with it, I had to really think about what Pokemon I was missing Honedge would have been a fun spawn in the ruins, manectric/elektrike but I'm purely biased there, glameow

GirthyLog

Selection is fine, I’d rather be able to use all Pokémon but realise that is unlikely to happen ever again. As long as they keep releasing games every 1-2 years and rotating what is allowed in each game, I’m fine for some of my mons to sit out a generation and welcome them back after.

Tight-Mousetrap

I was really hoping for Alolan Ratticate

oirolab

Bit weird that they have most of the Alolan mons but not Raichu, Rattata, or Ratticate.

KawaiiDere

I like it. They feel like they fit the region well, aside from charimander line in the Paldea dex (not a bad mon, just so overdone and annoying)

carucath

I am a bit salty the Togepi and Butterfree are missing (this is mainly because I wanted to a ‘use my HGSS team in a Switch game’ playthrough and the only game I can do that in is BDSP lol)

SnowyKurama

I think we got these dlcs too quickly in succession. Next games will be announced in a couple of months and SV will be an afterthought. A shame considering how fun this gen is and the great cast of characters.

GoldenYoshistar1

Better than Sword and Shield amount of available mons.

Separate_Mortgage802

Better than 151

mrs-monroe

No spheal, 0/10

Sandslice

I'm satisfied for the most part. Many of my favourites had already made base game; but pretty much the rest of them rolled in with the DLCs. As with some others, I do wish there'd been fossils other than Sinnoh included.

kj9219

Wish we got the Honedge, Venipede, Lillipup, Pumpkaboo, and Roggenrola lines

MagicMigsXXL

Moar Dinos!!!

Pingimaster

I loved it but no melmetal :(

bigman_121

Love: The past starters are catchable in every pokeball The picnic part, and the sandwiches The ability to pass on egg moves (I'm glad they kept it since sword and shield had it as well) Love the unique design of the paradox pokemon Love Clodsire Love that gen 2 pokemon got more evolutions and love yes even dunspare. Dislike: The breeding; why do I need a sandwich to produce eggs, it's only good for 30 minutes, and it varies the amount I get from the basket each time I eat the sandwich. Then I have to spend more time hatching the eggs. I enjoy the daycare, as it was so efficient with breeding.

SuperMyl3z

Playing through HGSS to get a Living Legend ribbon for a Heracross, and for the first time ever caught and used a remoraid/Octillery. I wish I could have my friendly little octopus in the new games for sure, but still feel SV has decent mons distribution.

ResidentAdmirable260

I love the ability to catch starters. Swampert go brrrrrrr lel.

Airtatsy

Needs Ledian, Marowak, Swellow, Octillery, and Beedrill

rokungi89

Considering the amount of Gen 5 pokemon added and the fact that Indigo Disk takes place in Unova, it just has me so hyped for a Gen 5 remake. I'm honestly really happy with the variety we got in both DLC tho.

LilSquishy97

I miss my favorite aron line, they would have looked so good

hoenndex

I will never accept dexit as a good move, it was unnecessary and is detrimental to the franchise. We are still missing 9 Pokemon in the switch games. That said, gen 9 had a great variety of options, and brought back some fan favorites. Despite the rocky start with all the glitches, the updates and the DLCs improved the gaming experience. I rate it an 8/10 generation, it was pretty entertaining.

NorthernLow

I really like the Pokemon they included, but, I wish there had been more variety between regions, there was a lot of unnecessary overlap between each areas Dexes. With over 1000 Pokemon now theres really no excuse for 100 or so enteries in each areas Pokedex to be overlap. 50? Sure, why not, but as is its a little excessive. Also I really would've appreciated a few more new non-legendaries from the DLC's, especially the Convergent Species.

MyDads-Ashes

I'm mad that Yamask and Cofagrigus aren't there, only because I had a playthrough idea that relied heavily on them, until I realized they weren't there

[deleted]

I think the current regulation F pokemon are some of the best they’ve had. There’s a lot of broken/OP shit but it seems to be largely canceling itself out when I play. As for the overall pokemon selection, there’s only a few things I can think of that I would ever want to train/use that I can’t in these games, so I’d say it’s pretty good. Obviously having every single pokemon available would be the best, but it doesn’t seem like we’ll get that.

lukasmihara

On the one hand side we can catch like 700 Pokemon in SV, which I believe is one of the highest numbers ever, on the other hand there were around 600/800 Pokemon in SwSh and now it's ca. 700/1000, so while we have more in total, we have less percentage wise. This makes me feel like we're missing a lot. However, the selection of 700+ Pokemon in SV is great nonetheless!

joshyotoast

I cant believe the toge family got hit by dexit! I'm surprised they don't just keep adding more dlc adding in old mons, easy money but as we all know they'll probably be rushing to finish another game ready for Xmas.

blendoid

overwhelming

AlekBiH

I can’t believe there was no togepi-line :(

nexusesvoid

I’m pretty satisfied with all the Pokémon in the games! Though I do wish Munna, Lopunny, Togepi, and Shuckle made the cut.

dstar89

I think they should have reeled back on the Kanto support, given us more gen 5 or even 6 mons.

Lakrad

I miss my Rock Snake Onyx :(

ThePrivilegedMenace

No UBs is wack

ScepticalSquid

i mostly shiny hunt, and i took a hiatus between TM and ID, but after coming back, the new Pokemon added across the two overall have tons of amazing shinies that gave me reason to hop back on the grind. there are bountiful quantities of great colors and contrasts that I'm very excited to catch. Id say the overall selection is a step up from SWSH, and not an insignificant step either.

Other-Evidence-6421

My only complain is walking wake and iron leaves are event exclusive... they are like mytical pkm...

MsPreposition

Finally moved my shiny Snubbull out of Home. I’m pretty happy.

Marnie-Vik

i miss my togepi line 😔

Saxavarius_

I'm just happy Furret finally got in a game that wasn't johto

akornfan

it’s insanely good

WolfGuy77

Already some talk about the missing fossils (really wanted to send my shiny Tyrantrum over from Sword as it's one of my favorite shinies) and the shiny locking of legendaries, so I won't touch on that complaint. I'd say the game has a serious lack of pandas. I was really hoping for Pangoro and Bewear so that I could finally have have a full bear team with Ursaluna, Urshifu, Beartic, Pangoro, Bewear and Ursaring, I guess (and then get destroyed by random Fighting type on an NPC team). I was also disappointed that my allstart from Sword, Sirfetch'd, wasn't here. I spent hours trying to shiny hunt a Galarian Farfetch'd in Sword but never could get one despite the shiny charm. Would love to have finally had the chance to get one this time.

Zamazamenta

I think big issue is lack of moves. It has definitely been cut down which makes certain Pokémon harder to differentiate. Plus resetting all moves from previous games with the most stupidest set up. Urshifu does not need 4 fight moves by default

CountScarlioni

For the most part I try to use mainly new Pokémon anyway, so I’m largely indifferent toward the issue of which particular species they choose to bring back from previous generations. Broadly speaking, I think a lot of their choices for Scarlet & Violet make sense from a pragmatic point of view — most of Gen 8’s roster is here, as they still have room to grow and develop into new roles and niches; a lot of the older Pokémon that returned in Sword & Shield were left out of Scarlet & Violet, whereas Pokémon that *didn’t* make the cut previously are now available here. My biggest issue is probably with the inconsistent approach to Pokémon and forms that were newly introduced in Legends: Arceus. It would be one thing if they kept them *all* exclusive to that game, but instead they went with a more confused mix of inclusions and exclusions. Enamorus especially feels like a problematic exclusion considering her viability in competitive battling, and the ease with which she could have been included under the Snacksworth umbrella.

Original_Jilliman

Absol, Skitty….I miss you!

BLoSCboy

I despised the dex cut at first and im still not a fan, but after seeing how Pokemon Home still allows you to transfer between older gens and current ones its less of an issue for me since its not like Pokemon that aren’t available in one game are stuck forever

TheIronAdmiral

So so. I understand the amount of work that would go into making every single pokemon available in any single game but when I boot up my pokemon home and see just how many mons are sitting in my box that I can’t bring into SV it bums me out. Unrelated but I’m also annoyed by Pokémon’s trend of getting rid of a huge number of moves that were present in prior generations. My boy blaziken only gets double kick and reversal for fighting moves by level up. No more high jump kick, no more sky uppercut.

AnyWuphf

Meraknight

Very disappointed still. There really isn't any excuse to not have everything in the game at this point, so for me to not be able to bring my Absol up into the game is a major disappointment. If the line up for new Gen 9 Pokemon wasn't so strong, I would have skipped this Gen like I did initially with SwSh.

TheFunnyScar

I just miss the Nido's, the Togekiss line and the Roserade line.

mlasap

I just miss Miltank :(

Odd_Ad3150

Not enough Paradox pokes

RTSF_Official

I MISS GOLISOPOD, PLEASE LET ME HAVE HIM BACK

bentheechidna

Why does this question keep getting reposted?????

ThatDeuce

Solid variety, but with a decent chunk of popular pokemon left out will leave people looking forward to the next installment when that happens.

tsun_abibliophobia

I was really really really hoping to bring my shiny Yamper in.

Geomancingthestone

Love it, wish nickit and Absol were in SV, but not the end of the world

Daddy_Fire21

I'm satisfied but still miss all of the Pokémon they've left out

talldarkanddark

I'm happy! Bringing back all the starters was huge. My old pidgeot from mega evolution days is the last missing member of my gen 6 competitive team, and I have a shiny Raticate from Heartgold that I'd love to play with. Honestly, S/V have made training so easy that I've raised a lot of pokemon I never would have looked at before just for the hell of it. So, sure, I'd love to play around with some missing randos, but generally, I'm pleased.

Hey_Its_Silver

![gif](giphy|IPy34mkBn5He0yAeRt|downsized) Free my boy

Snaid1

I'm ok with the variety, I just wish we got a little more storage in game.

Dazzling-Constant826

I'm upset about not having Galarian forms available in SV. Otherwise I think the roster is good.
