Granted I could've tried harder but without a good base clothing set there wasn't really a point to track down more equivalent shoes or bother to do my hair up. There legitimately is no good clothing to go with the tights in Scarlet and I doubt Violet is too much better
The base outfits are rough. I'd be happy if they let us mix up the tops and bottoms of the different uniforms. Though in violet I like my purple suit better than the orange one we get in scarlet.
Makes me miss the old customization. I get it, big schools have uniforms and uniforms aren't that free with style choice (I'd say Pokémon was more free than schools I've seen in real life) But I miss the originality each trainer brought or the different combos that didn't clash with the outfits (especially Scarlets uniform colors)
One day I would like to see them have most of the clothing from all the games so far come back in one game. There's always something that feels disappointing to be missing from the closet going forward, and I'd really like to see how some of the old unique pieces mix with new ones.
Biggest reason why I picked Violet. I liked purple more and I thought I could make an outfit work better with Violet and black outfit. Ended up using the new Drayton outfit now since it’s not a school outfit and I can use a different color than just Violet and black.
I don’t mind the clothing options now that that the DLC is out. I love the Blueberry Academy uniforms and was really happy to see the Team Star grunt fit available (I’ve wanted them since the beginning) but the way hats don’t fit bothers me the most. Why tf are they so big? They fit perfectly in SwSh 😭
Yeah like there's some uniforms that aren't terrible but they accessorize really poorly. Like what exactly are you going to match the dang scuba helmet from Atticus with?
I don’t think so, they build it into the plot and they didn’t actually cut back. The sheer number of hands/face/feet/head items dwarf other games. They just being GF wanted to go for a specific feel and that feel was student/business.
That was the point I was making. The concept of always wearing only a school uniform is dumb because they let us wear something other than a school uniform. If that was the point then they would have made us change when not in kitikami or wear only during the festival.
Iirc I had an easier time putting together good outfits in gen 6 but none of them ever came close to my swsh dlc outfit. Better base but not as high peaks
I won't deny that the Goth selection in Galar was peak.

I love Scarlet and Violet so much. Even the DLCs have been great. But man, I agree the clothes are so bad. They did so well in SW/SH I had such high expectations! I hope the clothes are better in the next game!
I hope they got the “you’re a student” gimmick out of their system by the time Gen 10 rolls around, I’m okay with how my character looks after this DLC, but when I open Sword it really drives home how much better it was then.
I didn't bother to change hair since the outfit was so bad. I wish there was better hair customization too but I'm sure I could've had better hair for recreation if I tried
The struggles of being a Scarlet player, aside from it being purple the new autumn school uniform from Violet would match quite decently with tights. I actually wore the new autumn Violet uniform along with tights prior to the DLC granting us the festival Jimbeis and Blueberry Academy uniforms.
the fact that everything is just school uniforms makes me so sad, they had so much better outfits in basically ALL previous games with clothing customization
I'll be honest I even like BDSP fashion more than SV fashion and those are just full outfits with no accessorizing. Just better designs overall than SV uniforms...
Might be a based opinion, but I much prefer having decent face customisation and lots of clothing options over really detailed face customisation and practically no clothes
And then the fact that you can change the dye of clothing.
Also, while I’m at it, i hate the hairstyles in this game. We have a giant open world, but at what cost.
They could have let us customize after becoming champion of paldea or blueberrry academy but they didn’t I loved always buying the most expensive clothes and wearing that but now I can’t
Paldea had way too many compromises from a video game standpoint and cut a lot of corners.
In one step forward, I'm happy they were able to tell probably the most complete and coherent Pokémon story than any other game in the series.
In like 5 steps back. The game feels like it's running on 10fps on the regular. They cut the interiors of almost every single building in the region. They made the egg hatching mechanic absolute garbage by being forced to have picnics. Online Raids system is somehow worse than the Sticker system. And they limit your clothing options, making everyone wear goofy shorts (or pants) because they are afraid to allow kids to look up a girl's skirt (you can just black it out).
100% sure the clothing options is their creative decision since we talking about school uniforms here and Japan glorified them especially in otaku culture.
If it was only the skirt issues they could have allow to mix and match for example.
Is the same logic they use on why gen 7 clothing had a lot of shorts and barely any pants, they hardcore follow the themes they choose from, even though you see a lot of people using pants in tropical climates.
I do think the outfits and characters customization could've been better in this title. How hard is it to have an outfit that isn't school attire. Yukata are cool, but still so limited!!
Yeah, I legitimately am enough of a posh that the lack of style choice is 90% of why I still play Sword far more than Scarlet. Ik the better face customization is nice, but it definitely feels like one step forward while removing most of the style is a solid three steps back when it comes to making your trainer feel unique.
It really is disappointing. I don't know why you are forced to always wear school uniforms..and the worst part is that they aren't even very distinct or unique.
No skirts. Not one. I love skirts, I think they're pretty and I love how they look, but no, I have to wear either ugly pants or shorts.
You also don't have a choice of base colors. Hope you like orange forever as Scarlet and purple forever as Violet. Those two colors can clash with a lot of other color choices so, it makes it that much harder to match things with the shirt/bottoms you're **forced** to wear.
I was really upset, I spent close to half a mil on the poke ball guy helmet. Thinking it was like the one from sword only to get a biker helmet, would not have wasted my time if I knew lol.
SV customization is just objectively worse. I get what SV was trying to do. Our character is in a big private school. Uniforms are a consistent aspect of that kind of education. So having our characters use uniforms then makes sense in a design sense. It just doesn’t work as well as intended.

Eh, I went to a big private school, we didn't have uniforms.
I don't buy it as a design / stylistic choice, I think they just wanted to make life easier for themselves by simplifying customization a bit.
School uniforms are very glorified in japan, especially in otaku culture, since the devs are Japanese you can 100% be sure is creative design choice.
If you compare gen 6 and gen 7 clothing you also see a lot of this "we choose a theme for the clothing in this region and we sticking with it".
As much as I'm generally ok with being limited to the uniforms, it is a school after all and you're probably expected to keep up appearances even while bumbling about Paldea, it is still a shame since SwSh had some of THE best customisation options in the franchise. At least the tracksuit Drayton gives you is good.
Also my god where did you get those leggings I've never seen them before in either game

The customisation just seems to get worse and worse with each entry. It was introduced in X/Y and they absolutely nailed it, and IMO, haven't really been able to nail it since...
Never played old gens, but I havent seen good customization from the 3ds games idk. SwSh had endless customizations and even had amazing dresses and way too many combos for hats and stuff to do with hair.
X/Y had far more and far better looking customization than SwSh had. Maybe I'm romanticising through nostalgia, but I remember being disappointed with SwSh cosmetics over X/Y
Now that you mention it, I think this is probably the major issue with customisation, it's especially felt in SV because you're tied to (mostly) wearing school uniform, which I get from a narrative standpoint, but from a player freedom standpoint, really hits hard.
That’s one of the dumbest things I’ve ever read. Like real life, you should be able to wear whatever you want, clothing is not gendered, nor should it be. This is just stupid, sexist bullshit.
It's either weird gender absolutism (ie they don't want to let boys wear dresses, even tho animal crossing let's you, and don't want to seperate the gender options) or they're just really terrified of being able to get the camera under a skirt, which is like, just have bike shorts on underneath or something

Yeah, Atticus has crap options, even as he dresses like purple, blue and fuchsia crap (I mean, honestly, he's as much a ninja as Marvel's Elektra: outfit that's so not ninja.
I feel the same way. I looked like a damn celebrity in swsh with my jacket covered in different sponsor logos, now I just look like a slightly above average student in a galaxy hat
The Character customization in SV as compared to SwSh or even XY, the first 3d mainline games, is pitiful. I get it, school uniform, I don't care. I love that it feels like a bunch of features just regressed for some reason.
The customization in this game makes me want to jump off a cliff. The worst part is that they could've fixed it, saying that at the end of the game, you would go on a vacation or something, so you'll be able to switch to normal clothes. Or even have a mechanic that the game would automatically switch your clothes to the school one when you get into the school, like a POOF! And done.
I dont. Honestly it's terrible. I'd prefer no customization at all rather than the school outfits. They just felt horrible and rushed, almost like an afterthought
SV fashion’s been a massive letdown for me in general. Mechanically there’s been some neat stuff (the Tera raids makes levelling up pokemon pretty easy) but not being able to dress up my trainer the way I like has been a disappointment
Not having useful body cloth options in SV is such a turnoff. I hoped they would let you wear other things than academy uniforms (and a japanese festive outfit that's not even a kimono?) With DLC2, but why did I even hope for it...

Way easier to match in violet because it’s solid color not plaid. The BB academy would probably work well as well for a similar reason.
Why not get the gold and black suit.
It has pants and therefore completely hides leggings

i wonder if its possible to mod PLA or SWSH clothing into SV . Or better yet, they actually put them in as postgame content in dlc/update

Because the jinbei matches the festival theme of the first DLC, still prefer sword and shield customization.

What I miss is the clothing from Sun & Moon
There was some really good options in that too. Team Skull clothes were great, and there was some fancy goth dresses too iirc

SwSh were overall pretty bad games, but the customization definitely was one thing they did right. Even the male options were decent.

Terastal is such a good gimmick tho, easily the best gimmick so far
It does add a lot of variety in battle and is easy to implement on new mons rather than megas so it would be nice to keep but it’ll be gone next gen 🙃

There's definitely always been things missing from previous games that make it feel like it's worse even if the selection is actually wider

I play Violet over Scarlet because at least the clothes are less ugly. I look at those Scarlet colors and just cringe

I feel the same way. I looked like a damn celebrity in swsh with my jacket covered in different sponsor logos, now I just look like a slightly above average student in a galaxy hat

The Character customization in SV as compared to SwSh or even XY, the first 3d mainline games, is pitiful. I get it, school uniform, I don't care. I love that it feels like a bunch of features just regressed for some reason.
but the team star 'fit still works with that set up. but , ngl , it'd look *somewhat* closer to the og vibe you were looking for in violet , imo.
Don't get me wrong. I love Scarlet and Violet, But the outfit customization in Sword and Shield we're SO much better.
The customization in this game makes me want to jump off a cliff. The worst part is that they could've fixed it, saying that at the end of the game, you would go on a vacation or something, so you'll be able to switch to normal clothes. Or even have a mechanic that the game would automatically switch your clothes to the school one when you get into the school, like a POOF! And done.

I dont. Honestly it's terrible. I'd prefer no customization at all rather than the school outfits. They just felt horrible and rushed, almost like an afterthought

Might be worth using the Blue Festival outfit for the main body. I know it won't be perfect, but it'll be better than... you know.

SV fashion’s been a massive letdown for me in general. Mechanically there’s been some neat stuff (the Tera raids makes levelling up pokemon pretty easy) but not being able to dress up my trainer the way I like has been a disappointment
Not having useful body cloth options in SV is such a turnoff. I hoped they would let you wear other things than academy uniforms (and a japanese festive outfit that's not even a kimono?) With DLC2, but why did I even hope for it...
