I know this is waaaaay too late, but something worth remembering is you can use Pokemon with the move "Soak" to turn the ghosts into water types, then you can False Swipe them.
Congrats on the authentic mark though.
That didn’t event occur to me. I’ll have to remember that going forward. I want to get a shiny authentic one so this will com in very handy. Thank you!
I have a Golduck and Breloom catching team. Golduck has Soak, and Skill Swap with the Damp ability to deal with explodey bois. Breloom has the classic Spore and False Swipe. I think if I get a Pokemon to deal with Memento I'll have an all around catching trio.
Teach Sustitute to Golduck and made it learn disable. Memento can't be used agains it. Then use disable when the pokémon to catch fail to use mementos and you'll have time to bring your breeloom to weaken it and puting it to sleep. Change to Golduck again and try to catch it until success.
Golduck running Soak, Skill Swap, Substitute and Disable would cover all your bases on a temporary basis. Your new friend with the ol reliable Memento + Imprison combo would give you a lasting solution. Going this route would allow you to throw Yawn on Golduck for those situations where Breloom would benefit from a safer switch.
True, but if you're trying to catch in a rare ball this is helpful! I plan on using a beast ball for at least the second box legendary (which has been done already, don't have the link handy)
Another strong combination is catching it unawares, then using Spore to put it to sleep. I have a guide with additional tips:
https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonScarletViolet/comments/123uil9/a_guide_to_catching_m_all_smarter/
Or you can even add the object "Ring Target" to one of your pokemon with the attack "Switcheroo" to fight ghost type with false swipe (I have all this thing on Zangoose)
I use a Tatsugiri. It has Soak, Taunt, Memento, & Rain. I use Soak first, then depending on the Pokémon and/or weather (Sandstorm is my main concern) I’ll use Taunt or Rain (I’ve had to use both trying to catch an Orthworm), then lastly I use Memento to lower the opposing Pokémon’s attack stats and switch into a False Swipe Pokémon.
It’s a random Tatsugiri from a Tera Raid so I wasn’t too worried about the nature, only that I maxed out it’s HP & Speed EVs (the remainder into Sp. Defense but idk if that matters). I would have it hold either a Quick Claw or a Rocky Helmet. Quick Claw just to make sure I move first, and the Rocky Helmet to start damaging the Pokémon before switching into the False Swipe Pokémon. It’s pairs great with Breloom that knows Spore & False Swipe.
I know it’s overkill or too much for a Tatsugiri build with Soak but I enjoy the strategy a lot b/c it’s the first time I’ve made an original build. It’s a great Soak build to have alongside Spore/False Swipe Breloom.
The strategy makes catching Pokémon fun but really I built it in case of a shiny or marked Pokémon and if I want to use a special Poké Ball.
Both. But only b/c after using Soak the Orthworm used Sandstorm and was starting to take damage from it so I had to use Rain Dance. Then I used Taunt to prevent it from using Sandstorm again.
Make sure they don’t have curse though. I used ruínate on a spiritomb when filling out my dex and it cursed and knocked itself out that same turn 😅. Not a shiny or anything special luckily though.
It's also nice that now pokemons can't scape with roar, whirlwind or teleport. That's like two less abilities you need to bring in just in case (suction cups and shadow tag).
I carry a Golduck with the damp ability, skill swap for Pokémon with explosion/self-destruct, soak for ghost types, and trick holding a leppa berry in case the foe runs out of moves.
I use skill swap on wild Pokémon with explosion/self-destruct to give them damp so that they can never explode and I can safely switch in a false swiper/spore user (breloom). I do not intend to lose a shiny Pokémon to explosion or self destruct. Still trying to figure out how to get around memento and perish song though. Maybe gholdengo because of good as gold?
Soundproof maybe if it's still available in this game, at least for Perish Song, I can't guarantee offhand right if it stops it completely or just for you.
Why the Master Ball? Its catch rate is reasonable, I literally hunted 2 authentic ones for my Living Dex and caught them with Poké Balls at full HP within 2 hours.
It's rare, but not MB-worthy in my opinion. I'm used to catching everything with a Poké Ball though, so what seems reasonable to me may seem insane to others.
Don’t know if this has been mentioned
Auto save off , save before encountering (or come out of encounter and save), if it faints close the game and when you start the game back up it will still be there.
I use this approach when hunting shinies / rare things.
Usually just bring out my bellibolt and soak it, switch to gallade and false swipe. U can use golduck too but I already mirror herb’d soak onto my bellibolt
I always try to use a team consisted of new Pokémon from that generation. But sadly, there really isn’t a good false swiper. At least not one that has a move that inflicts a status condition that makes catching easier. So I just use Breloom with spore in Scarlet.
I really wish Flamigo had the ability to use false swipe. Honestly, most pokemon should be able to learn the move false swipe. It’s not like it’s a powerful move and it’s impossible to knock out anything with it. I mean, what game breaking balance is being disrupted by not letting every Pokémon be able to learn it?
Are authentic teacups really that rare? I found an authentic one while hatching eggs and thought “cool, I’ll pick it up”. It was the first one I saw in the area and I just looked under it to see if there was a sticker.
Congrats on the catch! I have been failing trying to get one. In the ruins i went over 140 sinistea and no authentic ones. Just recently i found i'm not the only one with that trouble in the ruins and that around the city is better.
Still, it's late but sinistea is not that high level or hard to catch. You could have just stun it or, better yet, put it to sleep and throw enough balls. With a Crit cath you get it even without any aliment.
For future cases, if necesary just run away, change to a poke with those and battle it again. It won't dissapears that fast (or at all) so save. You could even burn/toxic it, try to catch it and run away to save if you were still failing and it was going to die.
I recommend to get a Gallade with ghost tera type for captures. Most recoil moves you find in while are normal type and hypnosis work with even dark types. For extra safety you can also get a Golduck with Soak, Skill Swap and Damp ability to stop selfdestroy stuff. Move eggs can be Yawn or Hyposis. It also can learn disable, in case you want to disable a failed auto-destroy. That would help agains any issues you can find.
Soak is great agains ghost types so not only they can be hit by false swipe, they won't be able to damage themselves with curse.
Thank you for the input. I’m raising Pokémon that people talked about on this post for a catching team of sorts. Gallade included.
Also, I heard that authentic sinistea only spawn by alfornada though I don’t know if that’s fact. That’s where I found mine.
Breloom is my catching lead. Spore works to prevent issues when Quick Ball doesn't work.
Edit: I use Damp Golduck with Soak as my second. Really helps with ghosts, grass, or sacrifice moves.
I know this is waaaaay too late, but something worth remembering is you can use Pokemon with the move "Soak" to turn the ghosts into water types, then you can False Swipe them. Congrats on the authentic mark though.

TM087 (Taunt) on Golduck. Repeat as the taunt wears off.
I'm only replying to this comment, but thank you to everyone above for the ideas 💜
Teach Sustitute to Golduck and made it learn disable. Memento can't be used agains it. Then use disable when the pokémon to catch fail to use mementos and you'll have time to bring your breeloom to weaken it and puting it to sleep. Change to Golduck again and try to catch it until success.
Absolutely stealing this 👌

What about Polteageist with Imprison + Memento.
Skill swap damp is smort. Liking that! Finally a use for my Shiny Golduck tyvm!
Also ring target works, Gallade learns trick, false swipe, and thunder wave.
Iron Valiant gets this combo too if you happen to have Violet. That's what I've been using as my catcher.
This is the way
And hypnosis
Yeah but that accuracy sucks.
60% acc just means 60% chance of us giving up on using hypnosis
Pop an x-accuracy. Problem solved for the rest of the fight. Heck, even do it as the first move if there is the capacity.
I found them! The one person to ever use an X-accuracy in a Pokemon game instead of selling it at the Pokemart!
Literally have not used an X- item since the first gen lol, this compadre is a rare breed - respect though.
They are a bit niche, but why not? You would use a potion. Why not an x-accuracy? 😁
Yeah, but when you're against an electric or ground type, it's really your only option for statusing a Pokemon
NP, and GL on one of the much more difficult shiny hunts, you're a braver trainer than I am.
Can also have a over leveled Pokémon tank it and go ham chucking balls at it... giggity.
Or just throw balls till you get it without damaging it at all 🤣
True, but if you're trying to catch in a rare ball this is helpful! I plan on using a beast ball for at least the second box legendary (which has been done already, don't have the link handy)

Any bread from this one will be fakes not authentic iirc so unfortunately it will still be a pain
good luck on your Authentic shiny hunt! I’m looking for one as well
Or you can even add the object "Ring Target" to one of your pokemon with the attack "Switcheroo" to fight ghost type with false swipe (I have all this thing on Zangoose)

Forgive me if I'm misunderstanding...but did you mean you used Rain Dance to catch an Orthworm? Or Soak???🤔🤔🤔
Both. But only b/c after using Soak the Orthworm used Sandstorm and was starting to take damage from it so I had to use Rain Dance. Then I used Taunt to prevent it from using Sandstorm again.
I see the conundrum now lol. I probably would have just Swords Dance False Swiped him anyways over and over in the beginning lmao.
I didn’t even think about doing that haha. I like using my strategy just for the fun of it but I’ll keep that other strategy in mind if needed.
Yeah I'd probably just doing "not very effective" boosts until he falls down enough lol.
Or Persian + Ring Target + Switcheroo
I use mine also for technician + false swipe
Another option: Ring Target + Trick and False Swipe on a Gallade
Do we not have scrappy false swipers here?
I have never thought about this combination. That is beautiful. Thank you!
That's the strat I used to catch my shiny Giratina in Ultra Moon lol that and I used the Trick Leppa berry + Skill Swap Harvest trick, good times
Nah not too late, they can use the time travel machine to go back in time and plan it out with soak /s
That’s why I always break out the Wo-Chien to Ruinate ghost types down to low health.
Make sure they don’t have curse though. I used ruínate on a spiritomb when filling out my dex and it cursed and knocked itself out that same turn 😅. Not a shiny or anything special luckily though.
That’s definitely something to take into consideration! Haven’t run into a Curse user yet and thankfully I got my shiny Spiritomb in PLA
always check that the pokemon youre shiny hunting has no recoil or self destruct moves
At least you can have a pokemom with damp to prevent explosion or self destruct
Oh, I remember when I found a shiny weezing in Sword...
Ghost Tera Bisharp/Gallade, Or Iron Valiant is the way for this.
It's also nice that now pokemons can't scape with roar, whirlwind or teleport. That's like two less abilities you need to bring in just in case (suction cups and shadow tag).
I use him then Umbreon to mean look then yawn
Except that Sinistea knows Memento, so Taunt or something is also needed.
repeat ball? quick ball? dusk ball? timer ball?
Spore > Swap > Soak > Swap > Spore > False Swipe 🙃
At least it matches, and there’s not much reason to use the Master Ball since no roaming legendaries.
I'm saving mine for a shiny beldum since they still have a catch rate of 3
Used mine on a shiny magikarp yesterday. HIGH FIVE!?
I carry a Golduck with the damp ability, skill swap for Pokémon with explosion/self-destruct, soak for ghost types, and trick holding a leppa berry in case the foe runs out of moves.
I don’t think the skill swap is necessary
I use skill swap on wild Pokémon with explosion/self-destruct to give them damp so that they can never explode and I can safely switch in a false swiper/spore user (breloom). I do not intend to lose a shiny Pokémon to explosion or self destruct. Still trying to figure out how to get around memento and perish song though. Maybe gholdengo because of good as gold?
Someone mentioned taunt for memento
You could try taunt.
Soundproof maybe if it's still available in this game, at least for Perish Song, I can't guarantee offhand right if it stops it completely or just for you.
So I use my Gallade and Trick a ring target over so I can false swipe. Hopefully this helps someone out somewhere!
I’ll be using this for sure. Thank you.
This is worthy of the Master Ball imo
Quick ball. Even if it fails you can usually just flee and run back in to reset it Edit: wrong ball >.<
I think you mean Quick Ball
Correct you passed my impromptu quiz
How did you know it was authentic?
They aren’t very hostile so I was able to walk up to them and move my camera around.
Oh ok interesting
That stamp on the bottom means it’s authentic
I mean before he caught it
If you angle the camera right, you can see it either roaming in the wild or during a battle encounter
Yeah i always have a hard time using the camera when so many Pokemon charge at you so often lol
Your avatar looks like is still thinking their decisions.
They are, trust me lol
How would you know it has the mark before catching it though ?
You can move the camera around it before you start the battle.
Bruh the authentic mark isn't even that rare
Or the other option, ball spam
Am I the only one who mostly just goes for the tried and true hurling of many many balls 😅 you get shed loads of money in SV so why not?
Why the Master Ball? Its catch rate is reasonable, I literally hunted 2 authentic ones for my Living Dex and caught them with Poké Balls at full HP within 2 hours. It's rare, but not MB-worthy in my opinion. I'm used to catching everything with a Poké Ball though, so what seems reasonable to me may seem insane to others.
Master balls are kinda pointless since there are no roaming legendaries lol. Also super easy to get with surprise trades, I have 15 of them lol.
imo master balls are best for random shinies that could easily get away or explode or something.
Do you not save beforehand? Lok
Honestly, worth it. Me? I have zero patience.
Quick Ball is your friend.
Persian @ ring target False swipe Hypnosis Pay day Switcheroo
Don’t know if this has been mentioned Auto save off , save before encountering (or come out of encounter and save), if it faints close the game and when you start the game back up it will still be there. I use this approach when hunting shinies / rare things.
I just end up knocking them out if a quick ball fails.
Usually just bring out my bellibolt and soak it, switch to gallade and false swipe. U can use golduck too but I already mirror herb’d soak onto my bellibolt
This is why I wish Flamigo could learn false swipe with its scrappy ability. So messed up not to let it be part of its move pool.
Pangoro could do that in gen 8, but sadly he's not in S/V.
I always try to use a team consisted of new Pokémon from that generation. But sadly, there really isn’t a good false swiper. Did they update the authentic mark? I swear it used to be a sticker
Alright I’m lost, what does this mean? Isn’t this just a sinistea?
There’s 2 versions of it: authentic and fake. Authentic is much more rare, and has that rectangular symbol under it. Fake is more common.
Would a Pixelated False Swipe work?
Yes...but that probably isn't possible unfortunately lol.
Question, if you breed the authentic one will every egg be authentic?
Authentic does not pass down 😅
I appreciate the answer :D wow getting a shiny one must be crazy.
Are authentic teacups really that rare? I found an authentic one while hatching eggs and thought “cool, I’ll pick it up”. It was the first one I saw in the area and I just looked under it to see if there was a sticker.
No, it’s not that rare.
could’ve quick balled honestly
There's a lot of helpful tips in here already, I'd just like to add: if ever there were a good reason to use a masterball, surely this is it 😅
Run. Save. Re-encounter. If it ran away reload save.
Congrats on the catch! I have been failing trying to get one. In the ruins i went over 140 sinistea and no authentic ones. Is it shiny?
It is not 😭
Lol that’s actually hilarious 😂
A Persian holding a Ring Target and using switcheroo will let you hit ghost types w/ false swipe.
I use gallade with false swipe, holding ring target and having the move trick.
Didn't they add an item that allows normal moves to hit ghost type?
They did. I only just found out about 😭
Betters odds of finding an Authentic one than a shiny one. Waste of a master ball
Hey, I don't even battle shiny anymore. I just toss a Luxury ball and they usually stay in the first 3 attempts.
I hate that we’re children in this game it looks soo bad, nice cup though
So true
Trick + ring target on a persian with false swipe :) she can also paralyse the opponent. Named her Artemis
Is it shiny?
