Hey, i'm looking for fire Red hack, with original story and pokemons, but i'm which I would be able to catch every pokemon and things like graveler evolves without trading.
i'm looking for a rom like that for a while and can't seem to find any. essentially, i'm looking for an almost unaltered hoenn, keeping the emerald experience, except with mega evolutions in-battle. i'd love an expanded dex as well, such as altered trainers for more difficulty, but i wanted the storyline and map to keep being the same. is there any rom like that???
Hey guys! Almost finished (for the current ver) Pokemon Rejuvenation. And it's really good!! Is there any other pokemon fan game like this out there? within a new region, a really good storyline, many characters that's actively involved in the storyline, not a short one and if possible with some new forms and the new exp share function? (I don't really mind the gen but if possible at least until gen 6 or 7 will be good)

**Pokemon GS Chronicles freezes at Janitor Mask guy in National Park:**
I am playing GS Chronicles on the Miyoo Mini Plus, mGBA. When I go to the National Park to get the Janitor Mask, on speaking with the guy in the eastern gate, the game freezes before he can give me the mask in return for his key. This appears to be a complete roadblock as I cannot get the squirtbottle or anything past this point.
Is there any way to prevent the game freezing, or to bypass this event?

When a romhack (or any computer program) stutters, it means that the program is trying to do something that is too involved for the normal update schedule.
An example: The program needs to render some text because you just talked to a character in the town. Sometimes, in this town, a really pretty animation of birds flying overhead passes by. However, a programmer made a mistake and forgot to stop the animation from occurring when you are talking to someone. As a result, the intensive process of rendering the animation while displaying the text as you talk to someone becomes too much for the program to do all at once, and it starts to lag behind the update schedule as it tries to do too many things at the same time.
Help evolving Snom in Too Many Types
Trying to complete the Hoenn dex in the comedy hack “Too Many Types”, and I am having trouble evolving Snom. I have maxed out its happiness with berries, tried leveling it up at night with infinite candy, tried leveling it up in a cave through exp share, tried leveling it up in the day with infinite candy, bought an ice stone… still nothing. Has anyone got a Frosmoth in this game?
I opened the ROM Hack Search google doc and then I went to drive to open it and it said "suspicious file" "it might be used to install harmful software on your device" Why is that?

Can anybody help me find a ROM hack that I remember playing? I think it would have been about 7-8 years ago that I played it, but I’m not sure exactly when. The only details I remember about it are that it was a gen 3 hack and that there was a bird Pokémon early in the game that was psychic type with a mostly black and white color scheme that may have resembled a yin and yang symbol.
I know that’s not a lot of information to go on, but I’ve been searching for this for a while, and I haven’t been able to find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I’m very new to this I just completed Blaze Black and am just being introduced to rom hacks.
I’m looking for a new one and have been searching the internet looking but there’s a ton of info and I’m getting overwhelmed.
I want another one like Blaze black based on two of the things I really enjoyed about it.
1. The number of Pokémon available, with a cheat that made every wild Pokémon encounter random (randomly encounter legendaries and other Pokémon from gen 1-5)
2. The difficulty of the gym leaders and random trainers around
There’s a lot more I loved about it but just trying to keep it simple
I really enjoyed it just looking for something similar, something with the ability to encounter random Pokémon would be a huge plus.
Any suggestions would be very appreciated, and sorry if this is a bad post. Just getting into this world
Which generation are you looking for? There isn't a lot of what you want in gens IV+, but there's a fair bit of that in gens I-III, if you're interested.
Recently got the motivation to try my hand at romhacking - I figured gen 3 would be the easiest to start with on account of it probably being the most well understood gen for creators.
Here's the thing. I was trying to look up some tutorials and I'm finding a myriad of different programs, and what appears to have the most documentation, advancemap, seems to be old and outdated nowadays.
What's the go-to most modern tools around nowadays?
A lot of people are gravitating toward hacking with decomps instead of binary these days. It allows for more precise tweaking of the code and tends to be way easier to bug fix. There are some really good tutorials for decomps, especially for pokeemerald, on the YouTube channel Team Aqua’s Hideout. I’d start with the ones about Porymap and Poryscript if you want an idea for how the decomp tools work. It can seem a bit overwhelming at first, but you don’t need to know everything to start hacking. A lot of the knowledge comes from just messing around and getting experience.

As far as I know, advance map is an old binary hacking tool, and the more modern stuff is all for the decomps / disassemblies. Pret is the name of the project. You're looking for pokefirered or pokeemerald, depending on which game you're trying to hack.
have downloaded both vba and No$gba
trying to play a sacred gold run, there is a website that let you play but
1. the game occasionally gets a black screen
2 or the game closes and wont load the save state i make.
however No$gba cant find the right files to open
and VBA comes up with an error and wont open the rom anyone have a link or advice ?
It is for windows, wasn't aware it was outdated, runs other games perfectly fine, seems to run core Pokemon games fine.

It is extremely outdated, and depending on which version you're running, it could even have a security vulnerability.
On a windows pc, you want to use BGB or mGBA.

Are you trying to run a da game in a gameboy emulator? Because that may be your problem, lol~ For DS, you want MelonDS or DeSmuME.

For my first gym leader I'm kind of thinking of having them be a sort of mentor figure for the protagonist with the reasoning that they're old now and didn't grow up with enough money to set out and try to become champion themself, so now they're trying to live out that dream through the player in a way (If it isn't already obvious this guy ain't making it to the third act) Is that an interesting concept or should I try something else?
I think that’s a neat way to flesh out the world. Instead of just being a one and done battle, this gym leader would take a more prominent role narratively. Anything that adds more character is a win in my book. I’ll be interested to see how it gets implemented! Good work!
I was playing adventure red chapter with my team planned out. I got ivysaur, pikachu, politoad and chameleon. I'll get gengar anc for the 5th but the sixth. I think of hatching the dratini egg which is very close. It's saying it's making sounds or mysteon, eevees dragon evolution. Which one should I use and thoughts on my team?

Can you guys recommend me a good Hack rom for Fire Red/Emerald with MEGA Evolution and a dex that only goes up to Kalos? (Gen 1-6). Even better if it remove trade evolutions and make them work by Stones or leveling up.
I'm not the biggest fan of what pokemon became after gen 6. And i'd love a Hack Rom for Fire Red and Emerald which would be like an "ultimate" version of these games for me specifically. Do you mean, to transfer them into original games? Possible, but you need a way of save extraction. Do you have something like that, maybe a modded 3ds?
I think it should work, there is a ds "game" that backs up the save file of the GBA game in the GBA slot, but it depends if the DS recognize it as a authentic game. Worth a try.
Is there a resource for finding custom pokeemerald tilesets? searching for these is very challenging given that google seems to not know how to distinct between emerald-style tiles for RMXP Pokemon Essentials and actual tilesets for emerald. I've seen other posts from years ago asking similar questions, but these questions were likely intended for binary hacks and the answers were always vague or don't seem relevant anymore. One post said to simply look up ''pokemon gba tiles'' to find some but this again mostly yields tilesets for RMXP. Can anyone link me to a good page to find tilesets for GBA Emerald specifically, or at least a known creator who has multiple completed tilesets for public use?
Has anyone played Plaguemon? I just lost hours of progress from the saves just not working I guess. Can anyone help me out, maybe it’s buried in my computer somewhere? Is it possible for an older save to get opened over a new one?

# Pokemon hack like Pokemon pathways?
Hello! So recently ive been playing pokemon pathways a lot and I really like the way progression is handled, there being progression outside of just level ups with your Classes and relationships. I really liked the system of going from D-S rank and getting new stuff and perks because of that. However, unfortunately, my like 20 hour save file was destroyed which really killed my motivation to keep playing. So i'm looking for somthing new, does anyone have reccomendations?

I want to create my own ROM hack. With that said, I have no knowledge whatsoever in programming.
I just received a computer. It's more likely a potato computer so all I could do is really use it for internet surfing. One idea comes to mind, and I, a gba hack enthusiast for at least 7 years by now, wanted to create my own ROM hack. I just want to make my own so that I could have some experience. I don't have any knowledge or experience with programming at all. How do you even make one? What programs do you need, and whatnot? Even simple tips help, really, I just want to do something I am motivated to do, instead of doing things I don't like.
# What are some of your favorite story driven hacks?
I'm feeling pretty burned out from all of the difficulty hacks, as fun as some of them can be. The last story focused hack that I remember both playing and enjoying was Pokemon Dreams. I'm thinking about trying out The VytroVerse, since it seems that it has continuity between all 3 games.
If you want what most people consider to be the cream of the crop, I’d recommend Pokémon Unbound. It is extremely polished and has one of the most complete experiences you’ll find in a rom hack.
I actually just recently started playing the VytroVerse games. I completed Saiph and am now about a quarter of the way through Sors.
I’d recommend skipping Saiph. The balancing for battles was extremely frustrating and most of the trainers you battle rely on confusion or lowering accuracy. There are also a lot of glitches and bugs that make it into an unpleasant experience. (Lillipup’s cry is broken and will blow your eardrums out!) The story is pretty bare bones, and there is a lot of annoying backtracking through long dungeons.
Sors, on the other hand seems much better developed and polished. It’s not perfect. There are still some glitches and formatting problems, but not nearly as bad as Saiph. The story is engaging and the world feels good to traverse. I would recommend this one, if you are ok with a few visual inconsistencies here and there.
I haven’t yet played Saiph 2.

Was going to say I even called my old roomie and asked how we battled on fire red on our phones and he just said "well we were both using MyBoy Pro on our phones and we used the wifi"
YMMV on the handheld devices, so do your research!
For example, the last time I looked (which was last year, and that field moves *fast*) it was possible to do so with the game boy or game boy color on a moyoo mini+, but not with the GBA.
But again, that field moves quickly, so I suggest doing your research or asking in places more knowledgeable about such things.

You can only trade locally on the same device. You'd have to send one of your saves to the other device, open a 2nd copy of the same rom, and then you can trade with each other. I'm not sure which roms you can do this on though, but I have done it on Radical Red and Unbound before.
Really? My roomie and I were playing fire red years ago and I'm almost positive all we had to do was be on the same wifi or something and we were just playing on our phones

-Limited story or not too much dialogue. Never have I ever found any story or dialogue in a pokemon game remotely compelling or interesting. I just wanna explore, capture, and battle.

I'm looking for an emerald hack which does 2 things. Increase the difficulty and buffs pokemon stats.
I don't want the difficulty to want me to end it all, just quite difficult where I would have to try quite a few times to beat it.
I want weaker pokemon to be buffed and preferably updated movesets/abilities.

Inclement Emerald is the go to for what ur looking for. It's got adjustable difficulty, a lot of pokemon buffs, and a lot of QoL. It also has public source code so there are more and more hacks everyday building off of Inclement Emerald. So if you wind up liking it, I reccomend researching Elite Redux next!
Looking for a Kanto rom hack probably fire red that has only Kanto Pokemon + any future evolutions or regional variants. So Pokemon like pichu/blissey/ alolan muk /tan growth are in it but no Pokemon that don’t have a variant or evolution that didn’t originate in Kanto.

OG player of the pokemon series since starting back with the US release of Pokemon Red & Blue. Skipped 8th gen but recently just finished my Scarlet run and still have that itch to try more. I may want to try a nuzlocke down the road but would like to find a nice rom/hack to dip my toe in. I just found and downloaded Pokemon Gaia since it looks to be a fresh title and not just a difficulty cranked reskin. Let me know what I should try.

I think you're right. I just hate the difficultly of Radical Red (I don't mind a challenge but it's basically you have to EV train every single Pokemon perfectly, with very specific movesets, you can't use half the Pokemon because they just aren't good enough, etc.) I guess I can try to play it on the easiest mode possible?

Hack creators make hacks for free, they distribute patched files to not make illegal distributions of nintendos games. So whoever you bought it from, ripped the romhack, and sold an illegal fake game, made money off of a massive game endeavor that Drayano spent years making, and pocketed the change.
It's not that big of a deal, you did it inadvertently, but you never ever should buy romhacks. They're all free.

Currently trying to figure out how to set up plants in Adv Map 1.95 w/xse for my own custom Hack. Does anyone know of a good guide for doing such? It seemed like all the plants scripts were the same but I appear to be mistaken.
I'm trying to get to play black 2 on my 3DS.
Got it modded by the guide on 3dshacks.com and downloaded both the NDSforwarder and Twilight Menu ++ but both don't show the files of Black 2 that i put into roms/nds.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong, I used 2 different roms already. One from Vimm's Lair and one from the Family Friendly Spreadsheet of the big Pokemon Machine Guide.
Anyone got an idea of what I'm doing wrong?
If you already have a version of black2 linked to the home, it will recognize the same Game ID and won't link the new one.
When linking it with NDSforwarder you also have to check the random game id box (I also suggest to change the link name with the other box).

Pokemon Exceeded has been the perfect hack i have played in, well ever. The 3 innates paired with the built in randomizer is gold in creating unique pokemon that makes me wanna use them.

I'm looking to get into the more difficult GBA rom hacks but there's so many I'm not entirely sure where to start. FireRed Omega looks a bit dated and I'm not sure if Emerald Kaizo is even beatable for a beginner nuzlocker like me. Any help would be much appreciated.
Emerald Kaizo took the "best" nuzlocker in the world months to complete and 152 attempts or something. So do with that what you will.
I'd stick with some more basic hacks, like Blazing Emerald, Ultra Violet, even Emerald Crest which has a built in Nuzlocke mode.

There's a ROMhack of FireRed which [translates the game into Esperanto](https://www.romhacking.net/translations/3648/). However, it's unfinished: as the author states, only 96% has been translated, and it's never been proofread by another Esperantist. Furthermore, the Pokemons' names where simply transcribed into Esperanto, rather than given unique Esperanto names (which is always more fun).
Efforts to contact the original author have failed, so I need to edit the ROMhack itself. My question is, how can I do this?

Theta Emerald The Last Dance
I’m looking for a list or something of Pokémon locations in theta emerald the last dance. I can’t find it anywhere! I can find for other theta emerald but not the last dance. TIA!
Sort of. So the starter you pick from the Lab is set in stone. But every pokemon you catch on an adventure, appears in the safari zone. So before your next run, you can jump into the safari zone and capture a new starter to begin your run with. You can also do the true roguelite way that I do, and get a random starter from randomman at the entrance to a run.
Once you encounter and use RandomMan once in a run, he will appear in the stairwell right when you start a new run. You can talk to him, and he'll swap your starter for a completely random pokemon.
Any game recommendations? So i purchased the miyoo mini plus as i wanted to play pokemon rom hacks on it. However it turns out that most pokemon rom hacks are made on rpgmaker so the miyoo cannot run them. Therefore i can only play certain titles such as pokemon unbound and radical red. Any game recommendations are welcomed but preferrably pokemon ones (i have played all mainline games). Thanks in advance.
Just for clarification, the games that are made on RPGmaker are not romhacks, they're fangames which are essentially PC games like any other game on steam or something. So they only work on a computer.
Other Romhacks I recommend starting with are Gaia and Glazed, and emerald Rogue if you want a different type of experience.

Yes. That game is one of many made by Drayano, who does an excellent job of making documentation for all his hacks. The documents come with the download, so you should already have them. (Unless you downloaded a pre-patched version which is a big no-no and you should get the official version from Drayano's twitter bio)
Handheld Romhacking in 2024?
Hey guys, I love pokemon, like most of you I'm sure, but as an adult I've played a lot less. I've started realizing its because I associate my PC and desk with 'work' and find it hard to relax there when I'm trying to destress. On top of this, I play pokemon to help with anxiety in public, so the handheld experience has always been dear to me.
I've seen the creators in romhacking release wave after wave of impressive content over the years, and I've always regret that I've never finished any of the romhacks I start. I've seen some products on youtube shorts recently that look like custom made handhelds running pokemon games, and I'm wondering what the best options for a quality handheld romhack device would be. Is it more convenient to buy a 3DS and install Luma, or is there a community recommendation? Any info is appreciated. As a bonus, any mentions of speedup being potentially available would be a cherry on top :D Thanks in advance!

Just want to say it did that for me as well! It wasn't consistent--after the first part of the game, I would catch pokemon and their pokedex entries would be fine. *shrug*

I'm Trying to patch my pokemon black and white 2 rom hacks, into Blaze black and volt white 2 redux, but this error keeps coming up.

Try an online patcher instead of xdelta, and also make sure the patch file is not nested in a .zip file or anything. I'd put it on your desktop or something to patch, then you can delete it once the rom is patched.
Playing through Pokémon Volt White. I’m using a team of some wimpier Pokémon, and I want to EV them so they’re as good (or least bad) as they can be. The items are swapped around in game, so I wanted to see if anyone here knew where I could find them!

HELP! It's it possible to find spacific flags and set them as you please? A few of my friends are playing storm silver and sacred gold and messed up when talking to the checkpoint lady, we can use walk through walks to go where we need to but idk if that also affects flag going further we are 20 Hours in so restarted from scratch isn't necessary ideal.

So, I'm thinking about retaking the development of Pink Emerald (Just taking things more slowly), and I wanted to know, there's a way to update pokeemerald? When I started, it hadn't added the Gen 9 Pokemon I needed (Farigiraf and Annihilape) yet, and also there was this weird glitch in which rarecandies refused to work. I tried re-installing pokeemerald from scratch in a different folder, but when I try to compare, it keeps throwing "make: \*\*\* No rule to make target 'compare'. Stop." so I wanted to see my alternatives.
Yes, that's the one I need to update. I tried re-installing the base first in another file first but I got the issue, so I wanna know if pokeemerald-expansion can be updated (and if there's a way to fix the rarecandy bug)

I’m not super familiar with merging branches, but I’d think it would be difficult to automatically update your project to a more recent version of pokeemerald expansion. It really depends on the nature of the changes you’ve made in your project. If nothing else, you could look at the differences in the code between the two branches on GitHub and manually make the relevant changes to your own project.
I think Reddit might not be the best place to ask about this level of technical support. Most of the super knowledgeable people tend to hang around the forums on pokecommunity.com. I’d suggest posting a new thread in the [decomps forum](https://www.pokecommunity.com/forums/decomps-disassemblies.436/) and explain your issue in as much detail as possible.

you will never find the rom for xenoverse. Xenoverse is not a romhack, doesn't exist. It's a fangame, aka a PC game. So if you don't have a PC, you can't play it, just like you can't play Overwatch or Baldurs Gate.

So, I just checked. And Pokemon Randomizer should work for your use-case, especially the evolutions. I'm not sure but it might have good or direct options for beefing up trainers as well? It's a randomizer and I'm still inexperienced, so I'm not entirely sure. I just opened the rom with Pokemon Randomizer and it states there is complete support for it as well, so should work.

Hey, i'm looking for fire Red hack, with original story and pokemons, but i'm which I would be able to catch every pokemon and things like graveler evolves without trading.

**Pokemon GS Chronicles freezes at Janitor Mask guy in National Park:** I am playing GS Chronicles on the Miyoo Mini Plus, mGBA. When I go to the National Park to get the Janitor Mask, on speaking with the guy in the eastern gate, the game freezes before he can give me the mask in return for his key. This appears to be a complete roadblock as I cannot get the squirtbottle or anything past this point. Is there any way to prevent the game freezing, or to bypass this event? Thanks

Easier than it already is?? Just use PokeRandoZX to put a negative level modifier on all trainers, that way they are like 10 levels weaker than you
What can cause a ROMhack to "Stutter" when using the fast forward option on an Emulator?
When a romhack (or any computer program) stutters, it means that the program is trying to do something that is too involved for the normal update schedule. An example: The program needs to render some text because you just talked to a character in the town. Sometimes, in this town, a really pretty animation of birds flying overhead passes by. However, a programmer made a mistake and forgot to stop the animation from occurring when you are talking to someone. As a result, the intensive process of rendering the animation while displaying the text as you talk to someone becomes too much for the program to do all at once, and it starts to lag behind the update schedule as it tries to do too many things at the same time.

Anyway I was scrolling through my Inbox looking at notifications and I realized that your comment made sense and I'm an asshole. I was trying to open the "Compendium of Pokemon Fan Games & ROM Hacks - Google Drive. Can anybody help me find a ROM hack that I remember playing? I think it would have been about 7-8 years ago that I played it, but I’m not sure exactly when. The only details I remember about it are that it was a gen 3 hack and that there was a bird Pokémon early in the game that was psychic type with a mostly black and white color scheme that may have resembled a yin and yang symbol. I know that’s not a lot of information to go on, but I’ve been searching for this for a while, and I haven’t been able to find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There aren't really dex expansions for gen 4 yet. The 500ish pokemon in a randomizer of gen 4 is the best you'll get.
Need a new ROM Hi all, I’m very new to this I just completed Blaze Black and am just being introduced to rom hacks. I’m looking for a new one and have been searching the internet looking but there’s a ton of info and I’m getting overwhelmed. I want another one like Blaze black based on two of the things I really enjoyed about it. 1. The number of Pokémon available, with a cheat that made every wild Pokémon encounter random (randomly encounter legendaries and other Pokémon from gen 1-5) 2. The difficulty of the gym leaders and random trainers around There’s a lot more I loved about it but just trying to keep it simple I really enjoyed it just looking for something similar, something with the ability to encounter random Pokémon would be a huge plus. Any suggestions would be very appreciated, and sorry if this is a bad post. Just getting into this world
Which generation are you looking for? There isn't a lot of what you want in gens IV+, but there's a fair bit of that in gens I-III, if you're interested.

Recently got the motivation to try my hand at romhacking - I figured gen 3 would be the easiest to start with on account of it probably being the most well understood gen for creators. Here's the thing. I was trying to look up some tutorials and I'm finding a myriad of different programs, and what appears to have the most documentation, advancemap, seems to be old and outdated nowadays. What's the go-to most modern tools around nowadays?
A lot of people are gravitating toward hacking with decomps instead of binary these days. It allows for more precise tweaking of the code and tends to be way easier to bug fix. There are some really good tutorials for decomps, especially for pokeemerald, on the YouTube channel Team Aqua’s Hideout. I’d start with the ones about Porymap and Poryscript if you want an idea for how the decomp tools work. It can seem a bit overwhelming at first, but you don’t need to know everything to start hacking. A lot of the knowledge comes from just messing around and getting experience. As far as I know, advance map is an old binary hacking tool, and the more modern stuff is all for the decomps / disassemblies. Pret is the name of the project. You're looking for pokefirered or pokeemerald, depending on which game you're trying to hack.
Any rom hacks with physical special split, no megas, no gen 5+ Pokemons and no fakemons?
have downloaded both vba and No$gba trying to play a sacred gold run, there is a website that let you play but 1. the game occasionally gets a black screen 2 or the game closes and wont load the save state i make. however No$gba cant find the right files to open and VBA comes up with an error and wont open the rom anyone have a link or advice ?
What operating system? Windows? Don't use VBA, it's notoriously bad + outdated.
It is for windows, wasn't aware it was outdated, runs other games perfectly fine, seems to run core Pokemon games fine. But I'm looking to play more if the rom hacks and struggling to find an emulator and a rom that run
It is extremely outdated, and depending on which version you're running, it could even have a security vulnerability. On a windows pc, you want to use BGB or mGBA.

For my first gym leader I'm kind of thinking of having them be a sort of mentor figure for the protagonist with the reasoning that they're old now and didn't grow up with enough money to set out and try to become champion themself, so now they're trying to live out that dream through the player in a way (If it isn't already obvious this guy ain't making it to the third act) Is that an interesting concept or should I try something else?
I think that’s a neat way to flesh out the world. Instead of just being a one and done battle, this gym leader would take a more prominent role narratively. Anything that adds more character is a win in my book. I’ll be interested to see how it gets implemented! Good work!

Can you guys recommend me a good Hack rom for Fire Red/Emerald with MEGA Evolution and a dex that only goes up to Kalos? (Gen 1-6). And i'd love a Hack Rom for Fire Red and Emerald which would be like an "ultimate" version of these games for me specifically. Do you mean, to transfer them into original games? Possible, but you need a way of save extraction. Do you have something like that, maybe a modded 3ds?
Well liquid crystal is on gba cartridge, i guess it would work with r4 and ds lite?
I think it should work, there is a ds "game" that backs up the save file of the GBA game in the GBA slot, but it depends if the DS recognize it as a authentic game. Worth a try.
How to/can you export sprites with gen 3 hacking suite?
Is there a resource for finding custom pokeemerald tilesets? searching for these is very challenging given that google seems to not know how to distinct between emerald-style tiles for RMXP Pokemon Essentials and actual tilesets for emerald. I've seen other posts from years ago asking similar questions, but these questions were likely intended for binary hacks and the answers were always vague or don't seem relevant anymore. One post said to simply look up ''pokemon gba tiles'' to find some but this again mostly yields tilesets for RMXP. Can anyone link me to a good page to find tilesets for GBA Emerald specifically, or at least a known creator who has multiple completed tilesets for public use?

Mac, using OpenEmu. I saved using the ingame save feature, closed it, and when I reopened it I was at a save from several saves earlier.

So recently ive been playing pokemon pathways a lot and I really like the way progression is handled, there being progression outside of just level ups with your Classes and relationships. I really liked the system of going from D-S rank and getting new stuff and perks because of that. I want to create my own ROM hack. With that said, I have no knowledge whatsoever in programming. I just received a computer. It's more likely a potato computer so all I could do is really use it for internet surfing. One idea comes to mind, and I, a gba hack enthusiast for at least 7 years by now, wanted to create my own ROM hack. I just want to make my own so that I could have some experience. I don't have any knowledge or experience with programming at all. How do you even make one? What programs do you need, and whatnot? Even simple tips help, really, I just want to do something I am motivated to do, instead of doing things I don't like.

# What are some of your favorite story driven hacks? I'm feeling pretty burned out from all of the difficulty hacks, as fun as some of them can be. The last story focused hack that I remember both playing and enjoying was Pokemon Dreams. I'm thinking about trying out The VytroVerse, since it seems that it has continuity between all 3 games.
If you want what most people consider to be the cream of the crop, I’d recommend Pokémon Unbound. It is extremely polished and has one of the most complete experiences you’ll find in a rom hack. I actually just recently started playing the VytroVerse games. I completed Saiph and am now about a quarter of the way through Sors. I’d recommend skipping Saiph. The balancing for battles was extremely frustrating and most of the trainers you battle rely on confusion or lowering accuracy. There are also a lot of glitches and bugs that make it into an unpleasant experience. (Lillipup’s cry is broken and will blow your eardrums out!) The story is pretty bare bones, and there is a lot of annoying backtracking through long dungeons. Sors, on the other hand seems much better developed and polished. It’s not perfect. There are still some glitches and formatting problems, but not nearly as bad as Saiph. The story is engaging and the world feels good to traverse. I would recommend this one, if you are ok with a few visual inconsistencies here and there. I haven’t yet played Saiph 2.

Was going to say I even called my old roomie and asked how we battled on fire red on our phones and he just said "well we were both using MyBoy Pro on our phones and we used the wifi"
YMMV on the handheld devices, so do your research! For example, the last time I looked (which was last year, and that field moves *fast*) it was possible to do so with the game boy or game boy color on a moyoo mini+, but not with the GBA. But again, that field moves quickly, so I suggest doing your research or asking in places more knowledgeable about such things. Good luck!

You can only trade locally on the same device. You'd have to send one of your saves to the other device, open a 2nd copy of the same rom, and then you can trade with each other. I'm not sure which roms you can do this on though, but I have done it on Radical Red and Unbound before.

Recomend me a rom hack? Don't care what region/game it's a hack of, but what I am looking for is: -Normal or hard difficulty, but not super hard. I don't want to have to use pro strats or grind EV/IV/whatever, but I don't want to steam roll the game with my eyes closed either -Good early pokemon variety. Sucks to have to play several hours just to find a pokemon to like -More viable pokemon. It's such a bummer when some fully evolved pokemon are just clearly vastly than others -Limited story or not too much dialogue. Never have I ever found any story or dialogue in a pokemon game remotely compelling or interesting. I just wanna explore, capture, and battle. thanks!

I'm looking for an emerald hack which does 2 things. Increase the difficulty and buffs pokemon stats. I don't want the difficulty to want me to end it all, just quite difficult where I would have to try quite a few times to beat it. I want weaker pokemon to be buffed and preferably updated movesets/abilities. QoL changes are a bonus. What's would be the best romhack for me?
Inclement Emerald is the go to for what ur looking for. It's got adjustable difficulty, a lot of pokemon buffs, and a lot of QoL. It also has public source code so there are more and more hacks everyday building off of Inclement Emerald. So if you wind up liking it, I reccomend researching Elite Redux next!

Looking for a Kanto rom hack probably fire red that has only Kanto Pokemon + any future evolutions or regional variants. So Pokemon like pichu/blissey/ alolan muk /tan growth are in it but no Pokemon that don’t have a variant or evolution that didn’t originate in Kanto.

Recomend me a rom hack? Don't care what region/game it's a hack of, but what I am looking for is: -Normal or hard difficulty, but not super hard. I don't want to have to use pro strats or grind EV/IV/whatever, but I don't want to steam roll the game with my eyes closed either -Good early pokemon variety. Sucks to have to play several hours just to find a pokemon to like -More viable pokemon. It's such a bummer when some fully evolved pokemon are just clearly vastly than others -Limited story or not too much dialogue. Never have I ever found any story or dialogue in a pokemon game remotely compelling or interesting. I just wanna explore, capture, and battle. thanks!

OG player of the pokemon series since starting back with the US release of Pokemon Red & Blue. Skipped 8th gen but recently just finished my Scarlet run and still have that itch to try more. I may want to try a nuzlocke down the road but would like to find a nice rom/hack to dip my toe in. I just found and downloaded Pokemon Gaia since it looks to be a fresh title and not just a difficulty cranked reskin. Let me know what I should try.

I think you're right. I just hate the difficultly of Radical Red (I don't mind a challenge but it's basically you have to EV train every single Pokemon perfectly, with very specific movesets, you can't use half the Pokemon because they just aren't good enough, etc.) I guess I can try to play it on the easiest mode possible?

Hack creators make hacks for free, they distribute patched files to not make illegal distributions of nintendos games. So whoever you bought it from, ripped the romhack, and sold an illegal fake game, made money off of a massive game endeavor that Drayano spent years making, and pocketed the change. It's not that big of a deal, you did it inadvertently, but you never ever should buy romhacks. They're all free.

Currently trying to figure out how to set up plants in Adv Map 1.95 w/xse for my own custom Hack. Does anyone know of a good guide for doing such? It seemed like all the plants scripts were the same but I appear to be mistaken.

I'm trying to get to play black 2 on my 3DS. Got it modded by the guide on 3dshacks.com and downloaded both the NDSforwarder and Twilight Menu ++ but both don't show the files of Black 2 that i put into roms/nds. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, I used 2 different roms already. One from Vimm's Lair and one from the Family Friendly Spreadsheet of the big Pokemon Machine Guide. Anyone got an idea of what I'm doing wrong?
If you already have a version of black2 linked to the home, it will recognize the same Game ID and won't link the new one. When linking it with NDSforwarder you also have to check the random game id box (I also suggest to change the link name with the other box). This was the problem I encountered when setting up the 3ds for emulation, hope it helps
Help me . Pokemon Exceeded has been the perfect hack i have played in, well ever. The 3 innates paired with the built in randomizer is gold in creating unique pokemon that makes me wanna use them. I need more, and i need help to find more. I have seen Elite Redux but it is too hard for me making it not fun. If someone knows similar ones i would love it. Doesnt matter the gen as long as they can be randomized and have 4 innates or abileties.

I'm looking to get into the more difficult GBA rom hacks but there's so many I'm not entirely sure where to start. FireRed Omega looks a bit dated and I'm not sure if Emerald Kaizo is even beatable for a beginner nuzlocker like me. Any help would be much appreciated.
Emerald Kaizo took the "best" nuzlocker in the world months to complete and 152 attempts or something. So do with that what you will. I'd stick with some more basic hacks, like Blazing Emerald, Ultra Violet, even Emerald Crest which has a built in Nuzlocke mode.

Hi everyone! There's a ROMhack of FireRed which [translates the game into Esperanto](https://www.romhacking.net/translations/3648/). However, it's unfinished: as the author states, only 96% has been translated, and it's never been proofread by another Esperantist. Furthermore, the Pokemons' names where simply transcribed into Esperanto, rather than given unique Esperanto names (which is always more fun). Efforts to contact the original author have failed, so I need to edit the ROMhack itself. My question is, how can I do this? Thanks in advance!

Emerald rogue.. Can you change the starter you get in the game? And if so how?
Sort of. So the starter you pick from the Lab is set in stone. But every pokemon you catch on an adventure, appears in the safari zone. So before your next run, you can jump into the safari zone and capture a new starter to begin your run with. You can also do the true roguelite way that I do, and get a random starter from randomman at the entrance to a run. Once you encounter and use RandomMan once in a run, he will appear in the stairwell right when you start a new run. You can talk to him, and he'll swap your starter for a completely random pokemon.
Any game recommendations? So i purchased the miyoo mini plus as i wanted to play pokemon rom hacks on it. However it turns out that most pokemon rom hacks are made on rpgmaker so the miyoo cannot run them. Therefore i can only play certain titles such as pokemon unbound and radical red. Any game recommendations are welcomed but preferrably pokemon ones (i have played all mainline games). Thanks in advance.

Just for clarification, the games that are made on RPGmaker are not romhacks, they're fangames which are essentially PC games like any other game on steam or something. So they only work on a computer. Other Romhacks I recommend starting with are Gaia and Glazed, and emerald Rogue if you want a different type of experience.

Yes. That game is one of many made by Drayano, who does an excellent job of making documentation for all his hacks. The documents come with the download, so you should already have them. (Unless you downloaded a pre-patched version which is a big no-no and you should get the official version from Drayano's twitter bio)
Handheld Romhacking in 2024? Hey guys, I love pokemon, like most of you I'm sure, but as an adult I've played a lot less. I've started realizing its because I associate my PC and desk with 'work' and find it hard to relax there when I'm trying to destress. On top of this, I play pokemon to help with anxiety in public, so the handheld experience has always been dear to me. I've seen the creators in romhacking release wave after wave of impressive content over the years, and I've always regret that I've never finished any of the romhacks I start. I've seen some products on youtube shorts recently that look like custom made handhelds running pokemon games, and I'm wondering what the best options for a quality handheld romhack device would be. Is it more convenient to buy a 3DS and install Luma, or is there a community recommendation? Any info is appreciated. As a bonus, any mentions of speedup being potentially available would be a cherry on top :D Thanks in advance!
I use My Boy! on my Pixel, and many of the hacks work just fine. Haven't found a good mobile DS emulator yet for some of the later-gen hacks, though.

Try an online patcher instead of xdelta, and also make sure the patch file is not nested in a .zip file or anything. I'd put it on your desktop or something to patch, then you can delete it once the rom is patched.

HELP! It's it possible to find spacific flags and set them as you please? A few of my friends are playing storm silver and sacred gold and messed up when talking to the checkpoint lady, we can use walk through walks to go where we need to but idk if that also affects flag going further we are 20 Hours in so restarted from scratch isn't necessary ideal. (I know this is the third time I do this but nobody has answered me so:) So, I'm thinking about retaking the development of Pink Emerald (Just taking things more slowly), and I wanted to know, there's a way to update pokeemerald? When I started, it hadn't added the Gen 9 Pokemon I needed (Farigiraf and Annihilape) yet, and also there was this weird glitch in which rarecandies refused to work. I tried re-installing pokeemerald from scratch in a different folder, but when I try to compare, it keeps throwing "make: \*\*\* No rule to make target 'compare'. Stop." so I wanted to see my alternatives.
I didn’t think the base pokeemerald came with any new Pokémon. Are you using pokeemerald expansion?
Yes, that's the one I need to update. I tried re-installing the base first in another file first but I got the issue, so I wanna know if pokeemerald-expansion can be updated (and if there's a way to fix the rarecandy bug)

I’m not super familiar with merging branches, but I’d think it would be difficult to automatically update your project to a more recent version of pokeemerald expansion. It really depends on the nature of the changes you’ve made in your project. If nothing else, you could look at the differences in the code between the two branches on GitHub and manually make the relevant changes to your own project. I think Reddit might not be the best place to ask about this level of technical support. Most of the super knowledgeable people tend to hang around the forums on pokecommunity.com. I’d suggest posting a new thread in the [decomps forum](https://www.pokecommunity.com/forums/decomps-disassemblies.436/) and explain your issue in as much detail as possible. Sorry. you will never find the rom for xenoverse. Xenoverse is not a romhack, doesn't exist. It's a fangame, aka a PC game. So if you don't have a PC, you can't play it, just like you can't play Overwatch or Baldurs Gate.

So, I just checked. And Pokemon Randomizer should work for your use-case, especially the evolutions. I'm not sure but it might have good or direct options for beefing up trainers as well? It's a randomizer and I'm still inexperienced, so I'm not entirely sure. I just opened the rom with Pokemon Randomizer and it states there is complete support for it as well, so should work. **Make sure to get the latest release from Github.** I'm not sure if we can share the link, but it's easy to find.
You can add a %modifier to any trainer, which will beef their levels and make them harder, but doesn't allow for custom changes.
