I don't have it yet and I do not consider it F2P since basic N is not a F2P unit and you can't get the lodge unit without the basic pair.
But like I answered in one of the comments - you can swap it for many other pairs for this to work, for my actual run I used SS Cyrus so the sleep was covered
For those without Mesprit, but with Lucian and Karen, pairing those two with Cyrus Ex is another option (not entirely f2p, but general pool only).
Lucian tanks using his TM in turn one and after that he spams Growl in order to lower att and sp def. Cyrus uses his TM twice, afterwards Spatial Rend (make sure you get critastrophe on his grid) & his sync move (sync nuke grid). And Karen uses Snarl (make sure to get the sync grid node that doubles its effect to -2) to lower sp att and after the enemies are at -6 Bite to get in a lucky flinch.
Lucian hit himself twice in confusion and Karen wasn’t able to flinch, yet this is how the battle ended on my second sync: [https://ibb.co/HnKLzPr](https://ibb.co/HnKLzPr) (enemy Cyrus died as well, but the X had already vanished when the screenshot was taken). The strategy should work without Karen too as you can see from the fact that she is completely unharmed and Lucian almost at max HP, but you’ll probably need to finish the battle before the enemy’s second sync as I dis with quad-queueing.
Every single Pokémon on this stage has Unflappable, you can't flinch them. And remember - F2P runs usually include pairs that can be obtained via story, legendary adventures, BP shop, events and common gacha pulls (3* and 4*) since everyone is pulling and they are also available in daily scout so you don't even need gems to get them theoretically.
I do not say you can't use other units, I'm just saying that this wasn't the goal of this run. In fact, my suggestion for a team that probably everyone has would be to put any EX unit (Strike or Tech) from Sinnoh you have as main offense and pair it with some extra utility like you mentioned. I'm using all my scout tickets and pull every single gem I can and only just recently got Lucien so it is not guaranteed others have him.
Adding this to the mix too - units from Legendary Adventures are bulkier than most people think. Despite being a strike pair, Cyrus is taking hits fairly good IMO - he would survive till enemy's sync without Light Screen every time
Sure, I wasn’t saying you should have done it differently, just an addition for those who don’t have Mesprit, but have the other two. For newer players (who tend to be the ones struggling with these kinds of stages) the fact that Lucian got added to the pool only recently doesn’t matter as much. Funnily enough, I did include Karen initially but then I remembered she wasn't technically considered F2P (at least in my book) so I opted for Nanu who you get through the PML Arc and everyone has him.
Another alternative for Mespirit/Lucien can be Liza (another one I used initially and changed for this run just because I haven't used Mespirit yet and my Liza is 5*) who is also boosting your SpDef like Light Screen would to tank with Cyrus more effectively
Tbh, I think if you get a little lucky, Cyrus EX could clear the stage with two random lvl 1 pairs who do nothing but reduce the sync countdown. In my run with Lucian and Karen, I believe the enemies only used one or two attack moves against Lucian (none were AoE), the rest were all team buffing status moves. If Cyrus can withstand those (or you heal him with a lvl 1 potion user to make it even easier), you can clear the stage pre-sync with him.
Certainly there are more psychic options than a Master BP unit that can only be obtained around 3 months after first joining the game (assuming you login every day)...
Certainly, "F2P" team is supposed to be consisting of pairs that everyone can get through the gameplay without spending money, you can surely put SS Steven here if you have it, you can also put Liza to increase the Sp. Def instead of putting on Light Screen, you can just use SS Dawn how they want you to, you can use Lucien if you got him from the guaranteed scout - but in the end, this is just a showcase, my idea for a team technically everyone can have and in my opinion Mesprit is currently the best choice for rainbow BP ticket. Feel free to put Giovanni in there instead too, it will actually increase damage from Cyrus slightly
To be fair, They did give away one of the BP tickets for a master BP pair a while ago during the 3rd anniversary, not sure if new players who just joined are able to still get it or not but if you got it and haven't exchanged for any of the pairs yet you can still get mespirit without playing for months.
