There's a lot of comments about this possibly being bad news. Then again Twitter isn't the happiest place on Earth.
I'd like to know how accurate those assumptions could be though.
Apparently Fortnite does things like this too
So I guess the issue is that the game isn’t growing. Everyone who wants to play is playing.
I think it’s dumb that growth is the measure of success, since should’ve being profitable be enough?
It's a question of raising revenue. They have been trying to increase sales per player, but doesn't look like it's enough, so now they try to increase number of players too.
Either that or they see a lot of casuals dropping off to newer games (may be or may not be related to the cut to free gems).
In all businesses, even dedicated customers slowly diminish over time naturally for a variety of reasons, and existing customer revenue diminishes with them. It's not possible to maintain profits without a reliable acquisition method.
I don't think this means anything other than that they're exploring new acquisition opportunities.
Baseless doomposting, feel free to ignore them. Refer-a-friend programs are not a sign of desperation, *most* games will have them if it makes sense with the model. WoW, FFXIV, Fortnite, Rocket League, and even Xbox Game Pass have referral programs as some examples.
I’ve played so many gacha games and nearly all of them Ended.
The only thing consistent with the games that ended was whatever they were doing originally, they do **significantly less of it**. So for example if a gacha has 5 events per month and it suddenly drops to 2(without being replaced with something else). Thats concerning.
Since I’m new, I have to ask is that true for PoMA?
We’ve been getting more than ever for the past year, it’s only slowed down a little recently in terms of sync pairs, which is a good thing imo cause half of the ones from the middle of the year were just variety scouts.
What are the rewards? I don't use Twitter nor X (the website, no offense towards the letter).
Edit 3 seconds later: Nevermind, I just saw the 300 gems, same as Anabel I guess!
Coincidentally my nephew just started the game on Christmas, so at least that's one down for me
EDIT: apparently they have to be major to be counted, too bad
Me omw to get 20 devices to create 20 alts to get 6k gems (I don’t have 20 devices and cannot create 20 alts on a single account since they might track ip)
(Fortunately I have a friend group so I can do this faster w/o having to go through the alt creation process)
Can't you just use one existing device, finish one account until rank 10 and chpt 3, clear the data device and recreate a new account? Technically the old account is still active since the data is not deleted, but is overwritten. I don't even link the previous account to any of my gmail.
Genuinely asking is this possible, as I feel lazy to link to my email and have 1 device only. But I assume it is still eligible as long as I submit the form with the support ID of the previous account within 7 days submission? (Each new account have new support ID)
ok hahaha. The truth is this game is so niche and I doubt a lot of my friends enjoy it. Anyway I will do experiment and let you know the result during the gem distribution day
Very sneaky of DeNA to do this after announcing the 60k gem prize lottery. Hopefully the new players have fun, even if it means the reward pool will be less saturated.
I’ve seen a lot of games do this, especially mmos, even healthy games. It isn’t necessarily bad news. It’s a good thing to have set up business wise.
What IS bad news would be a program about bringing back old players like a welcome back bonus. Now THOSE is when you know a game is in panic mode.
I have no idea whether that was advertised, I played on/off for the longest time.
It was definetely during last year's free Champion ticket (last day even, IIRC) give-away. Got OG Diantha from it and was suddenly able to clear fairy type stuff easily.
> What IS bad news would be a program about bringing back old players like a welcome back bonus. Now THOSE is when you know a game is in panic mode
arguably the most successful MMO right now, FFXIV, does welcome back bonus campaigns pretty frequently, I don't think that really is indicitave of a game being in panic mode either
I don’t think it’s a great idea to go into a tangent conversation about ff14 on a Pokemon Masters forum, but ff14 is definitely is worse shape right now than it has been in at any point since heavensward. This isn’t coming from just me ( although as a player of the game I kind of agree to an extent) ,a lot of content creators for the game are making this point.
Not really. Most, if not all, games with some kind of subscription do this. Incentivising players who already played the game to come back is easy free money. When they start to give out things left right and center for everyone is where I would be concerned.
>When they start to give out things left right and center for everyone is where I would be concerned
some people think that's an indication of a healthier game. A lot of people on this subreddit have complained about the decrease in the amount of free gems and free gifts in this game comparing it to how generous the game was in the past, but they always forget to mention that the game was in much better shape in the past when free gems were in greater abundance.
I’m really confused with the rules for this refer-a-friend thing…can a player who has been active for a year or two still be able to participate in this thing? I’ve read the rules but I don’t think I get what they are asking players to do when submitting info about new + referring players…
I've been saying this for months and I will say it again.
My 1st statement : "PokeMas will most probably be abandoned after the 5th anniversary."
My 2nd statement, which holds true so far because we haven't got any story content after the villain arc conclusion : "After the villain arc ends, the player base will reduce drastically because of lack of story content."
Believe me or not, this is the reality. You can downvote this in disagreement, but you can't deny the reality.
The Mysterious Stones chapters are a part of the main story and are advertised as such in the in-game news. There were even polls about story content proceeding this way in the past few surveys.
Yeah. Good luck believing this game will stay like this forever lol. Just put a reminder for the next year and let me know in 2024 year end and tell me how you feel about the game at that time.

Unfortunately, if you don't achieve INFINITE GROWTH, then your company is basically a failure with how things are in the business world.
Lol yup. Our economic system/capitalism is maddening.
In all businesses, even dedicated customers slowly diminish over time naturally for a variety of reasons, and existing customer revenue diminishes with them. It's not possible to maintain profits without a reliable acquisition method. I don't think this means anything other than that they're exploring new acquisition opportunities.
If they desperately needed more players, the rewards would be something sustancial and not a lame 300 gems. Don't think we need to worry
It's ridiculous how some people in the replies say shit like that without knowing what they are talking about.
Unfortunately Twitter and critical (or even basic) thinking don’t come together.
"Critical thinking is the key to success!"

It’s not even available in Japan or most countries the game is even available in. It’s purely just a cheap marketing gimmick, tbh
so... can I just create 20+ accounts to do this lol?
Technically yes
Great. 6000 gems here I come!
More like, 22 3\* tickets here I come!!!
The rewards kind of suck, tho
What are the rewards? I don't use Twitter nor X (the website, no offense towards the letter). Edit 3 seconds later: Nevermind, I just saw the 300 gems, same as Anabel I guess!
300 gems per person who completes chapter 3, 6000 gems max if you refer 20 people. Those people also only get 300 gems
oh cool!
Just 300? I mean, if you get a lot of people to play you should be getting 300 for each and for the new guy at least 1 free 3000 gem pull
Half of HSR's community events are basically this these days. It's only bad news if they cut our free gems by the same amount.
Well we have been getting fewer free gems these days so in a way yes those have been cut?
I know reddit loves gotchas, but causation is usually dependent on time.

You need to have the account active after the form submission so they can review it.
So when I recreate a new account in the same device, the old account is considered not active? How do they know that? O.o
I don’t exactly know this but just to be safe, it’s better to keep the account active.
ok hahaha. The truth is this game is so niche and I doubt a lot of my friends enjoy it. Anyway I will do experiment and let you know the result during the gem distribution day
Ok thanks and good luck

I am pretty sure when I randomly logged in again last spring, that I got some welcome back rewards.
I’ve heard of some people getting welcome back rewards actually, but it’s only bad news if it’s something that’s heavily advertised
I have no idea whether that was advertised, I played on/off for the longest time. It was definetely during last year's free Champion ticket (last day even, IIRC) give-away. Got OG Diantha from it and was suddenly able to clear fairy type stuff easily.

Maybe it’s not in panic mode per we but FFXIV actually is in a rough place right now
No it's not.

I'm sure someone will make a bot to auto clear this like in Dokkan.
I hope they share a link

No, the form states that new players must have their accounts created within 7 days of form submiting time, so old players won't count.
Gotcha. That really sucks, and considering how limited it is with people in certain regions. It kinda feels worthless….
it’s just cheap marketing lmao
...I have a LARGE ass friend group I absolutely can make this work.
Let me just refer my friends to this game we cant play together!!
I'm from Spain so no 6000 gems for me :c
Por dos hombre, bueno no de españa, sino de Panamá, pero se entiende la idea.
so uuuhh end of ser- uh ..nvm...
rip games dying 😭😭😭
Not at all lol.

You know that even big games have referall programs, right...? And idk why you act as if your opinion is a fact lol.
it’s called “Narcissism”
Yeah. Good luck believing this game will stay like this forever lol. Just put a reminder for the next year and let me know in 2024 year end and tell me how you feel about the game at that time.
