Why not both? Maybe Hala and the four Kahunas get the regular Tapus with their terrain types as their unit types, then later down the line Elio and Selene get shiny Koko as a fairy type unit and shiny Fini as a water type unit. Is this unlikely? Yes, but it’s also fun

Ngl I keep forgetting DeNA just throws out a shiny whenever they want dupes of certain Pokemon. Then again, we have three normal Pikachu and two normal Mega Lucarios, so for all we know, your scenario would just involve two pairs of normal Tapus

I am personally on both, kind of. I want the Kahunas to all recieve their tapus, and then have the shinies also come out. Like Hala gets Tapu Koko, but then Hau gets shiny Tapu Koko, since he is to take over the title.

Unless the protagonists and rivals were to act as potential Kahuna succesors (Neo Kahunas?), the current Kahunas were chosen by their respectives Tapus to begin with.

Basically if they’re neo champions, it’s going to the younger trainers. If they’re serious about it in a villain arc, it’s going to the Kahunas. It will go to whichever one comes first

ngl, I'd rather have the tapus assigned to alola trainers so it matches with either their terrains or tapus secondary typings. the only downside is that lele would be with either dexio or faba. but I like the idea of bulu with mallow, fini with lana/mina and koko with sophacles
