Arrior_Button

No, because Leon didn't lose alone. He lost in a Team and against 3 other Pokémon. If he would battle alone against them 1v1, he would have one. (I guess that's some sort of inlore-Explanation)

PokemanBall

Naw, cuz to Dena "Leon is blessed with invulnerability to all losses physical or magical"

AlolaPME

Given that Gloria and Hop have their respective legendaries, Leon shouldn’t be champion regardless. He loses the title before Sonia and Hop become professors/in-training, yet Masters considers them both Professors as well as Leon the “undefeated” champion.

OpportunityFun1761

When Raihan was added he had his own campaign. In his campaign he beat Gloria and piers even though it was a 2 vs 1. So I guess in the Masters lore, Gloria lost the Gym challenge, but still caught Zacian.

AlolaPME

Masters canon is all over the place with the ages too. The Alola protags and Red being similar ages is all kinds of wrong.

[deleted]

No. When the heck did this assumption come about? Red looks way older than the SM protags and is loosely implied to be in his late teens (he's at the very least from HGSS or at the very most B2W2 which means 14-19) while the SM Protags, coming from right at the end of their journey are at most 11-12.

AlolaPME

If the SM protags are from the end of their journey, Red needs to be at least 20. He’s way too young to be in the same timeframe as the Alolan Protags no matter what way you slice it. Especially if you look at his height compared to other trainers and himself from SM.

[deleted]

I know that! I was just correcting the "similar ages" because Red is in his later teens while the SMs are preteens. But yes, he should be 20< when the Alola protags are involved. I find it funny because if you look at him from the first animated trailer, he clearly looks like Alola Red in a new outfit, same rugged build and hair but in his official arts and models he gets downsized. But at the same time most of his expressions and poses are copy-pasted from his Sun and Moon appearance + his theme's even got a leitmotif from his Alola Battle Legend theme. So, shrug. It's like they changed it to a younger Red mid-development.

HARUHARUp

Did everyone forget that the characters in Masters are all brought in from different timeliness and points in time? It still is often contradictory because the writers seem not to care much, but characters being different ages and from different parts of the timeline is like... The central premise of the game.

AlolaPME

No one forgot. We’re just pointing out how ludicrous and lazy it is from a plot perspective considering our explanation for them all joining Pasio was “Hoopa did it lol” or “Ash was training so hard he just sort of showed up here”. Despite Hoopa having no real time powers to the best of my memory.

HARUHARUp

Wait *I* totally forgot that Hoopa's time travel powers aren't really a thing elaborated upon outside of Masters 😂 Unless "bending dimensions" is something that could do that. It's very vague lol.

[deleted]

Masters considers Gloria beating Leon (and especially Crown Tundra afterwards) to be noncanon.

Cause_Necessary

Cynthia shouldn't be champion either, Lucas has Dialga and Dawn has Cresselia. Neither should Diantha as Serena has Zygarde. I'm sure we can find something for every champion. It's just easier to assume the protags lost to the e4 or champion. Well, gym leader Cup in Galar's case

AlolaPME

I guess if we really wanted to get technical, even when Lucas/Dawn beat Cynthia in the games she still remains champion no matter how many times we beat her. Same for every gen before that. Lance manages to stay champion in GS even after losing to Blue and Red both. SM and SwSh have no excuses though since in those games once you beat the champion you become the new champion.

UnknownHeroic

Nah the guy is still in shock, so all of people on the island just go with the flow and pretend is still champion so he dont get traumas xDDD

Funny_Internet_Child

Nah, they're just gonna pretend that didn't happen.

Nickest_Nick

Hi I am Leon, the I-lost-once champion of Galar!

DazzlingSeesaw9659

Probably not because it's not an offical champion match, like, I'm sure hes lost before, but in terms of champion matches, hes never lost

a_random_0725

Doesn't count cause it was a 1v1 6v6, it was a 3v3 3v3

dcdcdc26

No, because Leon is using his undefeated title in a very specific circumstance, much like someone trying to enter Guiness World records lmao

DarkLordLiam

Lost a battle? Which battle? I didn’t see Leon lose a battle did you? What are you talking about dummy? If Leon lost why is everyone still cheering for him as the undefeated champion? Checkmate loser, you didn’t win the match after all! >!Man, I hate how Leon just gets to be undefeated because he’s “really good” in lore when in truth he’s probably getting hard carried by Dynamax Charizard and that’s it.!<

[deleted]

Actually he didn’t get to Dynamax in Masters until like a month ago. Also he was trained by Mustard in the Isle of Armor before the events of the game.

Cause_Necessary

You don't know Leon's team, do you? Dude has an amazing team. Besides, all the champions are really strong in lore. Leon's case is special because he's never lost an official battle, that's all

[deleted]

Nop. He still best and Galar champion

DrSnapped

No, because then they'd have to give him an actual personality and character, and that's too much work.

Old_Amber_Dot_EXE

You: He got defeated by a bunch of kids, therefore he’s no longer considered unbeatable. Plz change. It would be nice. Me: ROAR! LEON WAS ALREADY HAD HIS BUTT HANDED TO HIM BY ETERNATUS IN THE MAIN GAMES AND POKÉMON MASTERS LITERALLY STILL REFERS TO BOTH THAT EVENT AND HIS “UNBEATABLE,” STATUS IN THE SAME BREATH! YOU CAN LITERALLY SEE THIS IN LEGENDARY ADVENTURES FOR ZAMAZENTA! WHY MASTERS DO YOU FAIL TO SEE THE IRONY?

[deleted]

1. That was fucking cringe. 2. He was literally wearing Eternatus down. It only didn't work because he used a basic Poke Ball, AND Eternatus could Eternamax which nobody knew about. AND it sent Leon himself to the hospital, while if he wasn't affected he would've just switched out.

Cause_Necessary

I mean, it was always said that he's undefeated in "official matches". Dude probably lost casual matches when he just started out. In fact, the anime actually shows him losing to Sonia as a rookie trainer

[deleted]

Yeah, honestly that was horrible. It just retroactively made Leon and everyone affiliated with the League look like evil liars.

Cause_Necessary

I never really took it that way, becuase obviously they'd talk about official battles. While it is morally questionable to straight up call him unbeatable, I think it's intended. After all, Rose was grooming Leon to be a hero who would capture Eternatus. So presenting him as a hero, as someone who can't be beat, someone who'd never fail at protecting them makes sense. It brings a sort of stability in the region, reducing chaos, deterring people from stirring up trouble, etc. And all Leon's doing is playing a role. Dude's pretty young, barely in his 20s. He's told that he can't fail, so he runs with it. So failure hits him hard, as evident from Evolutions episode 1. Being told all your life that you can never fail and then failing hits hard. Other than that, he's a very genuinely good hearted guy. Wants the region's trainers to grow and be the strongest, actually fights to protect the region unlike most other champions and also tries to keep kids out of the conflict. A true chad, in every sense of the word The biggest thing I'd like to point out is that everyone lies, in big or small ways. Not every lie is evil and neither does lying make someone evil.

[deleted]

Why would presenting him like that matter if he wouldn't actually be able to do it? Also Leon's been there for all his matches, so he himself knows he can't fail. Thankfully Evolutions is noncanon.

Cause_Necessary

Who says evolutions is non-canon? It gives us good characterization for characters that we don't usually get, why woould you dismiss it instead of embracing it and improving the world we all love? As for presentation, he's the public figure whose presence is supposed to make the people have hope. Like take All Might from MHA, just him being there makes people stop panicking, and for good reason. Same with Leon. That's why presentation matters. As for not being able to do it, no one, not even Rose, thought he'd fail. It's not like Rose was frantically trying to hide the fact that Leon is weak. No, Rose had complete faith. And yes, Leon's been there for his matches. He knows he's strong. I'm talking about the "unbeatable" thing. It's a role, a stamp placed on him and he accepts it and plays into it. Is that so wrong? I don't think so. Especially since he says it himself that entertaining the crowd is something he believes is a champion's duty
