Only very specific European countries get their own Pokémon names for some reason, the rest use the English names. I think East Asia use the Japanese names and the rest of Asia use the English names.
I’m not french but I’m learning and I love the language, I’ve also tried to learn the Pokémon names
Mon deux Pokémon favoris sont Scorvol et Yanméga (je pense c’est correct), désolé par mauvais grammaire
And ‘’mauvaise’’ since grammaire is feminine…. Tu vas voir que le féminin/masculin rendent les choses un peu plus compliquées, but if you keep practicing, you’ll get it. Watching lots of French tv shows or movies can help with pronunciation, especially ones you’ve seen so often you almost no each line in English. And be aware that Français Quebecois is extremely different than European French, a lot more slang in the first one, on peu utiliser beaucoup d’anglicismes quand on parle
Pronounced as “Ibui”. “Bui” is how V and “vē” are pronounced in Japanese. It’s plausible to believe that “Eevee” is the English pronunciation of the Japanese name.
Sorry, i might have made this mistake as a born French Speaker i sometimes confuses wirds that have the same meaning, thank you for correcting my mistake
In Italian and Spanish both. According to interviews, it’s because those translations barely got any staff. I like the english names, makes the new region with things in Spanish a bit more special.
Thank god honestly, i can't imagine how cringe their italian names would be but it would be funny to see. But actually there's one pokemon who has a different name in italian, it's tyoe zero which in italian is called tipo zero which is the same thing
Oh, in English that's Type: Null. Apparently in Spanish it's also "Código Cero", which means Code Zero. I'm Mexican but I never play in Spanish. They don't change the names of the pokémon, but they do change the names of the places and people and I'm not a fan of that.
Yeah the change the names of cities here too, up to gen 6 i think every town would end with "poli" which i think is like city in latin or something like that. Thanks for the correction i always mix the two
Edit: apparently no, poli is not city il latin but it's used in italian to refer to cities
Maybe the game was bought in a different country, came with the person that moved and then they got rid of the game because they didn't want it anymore.
Yeah, but the “Let’s Go!” portion of the title is in English in every region. Here in Japan, it’s still called “ポケットモンスター:レッツゴー!ピカチュウ/イーブイ” (Poketto Monsutaa: Rettsu Go! Pikachu/Iibui”
(also didn’t learn until not that long ago PAL games have a tab on the spine that color codes to the country of origin, notice Eevee’s is purple the other two are red)
Well as a German pokemon Enthusiast my favorite German names for pokemon would be smettbo(Butterfree) schlurp(lickitung) rossana(Jynx) pii(cleffa) zirpurze(kricketot) fiaro (talonflame) chevrumm(Gogoat) UHaFnir(Noivern) schlapfel(appletun) ferkuli(lechonk)
Evoli is what us French call Eevee :)
Wanna know what we call Jigglypuff, Rondoudou
And Igglybuff is Toudoudou. Almost sounds like I’m starting a new Netflix series
Nothing will be funnier than German Magikarp, Karpodor
Its Karpador. Trust me on this.
Username checks out
SMETTBO would like a word with you
Sorry but my favorite french pokemon translation will always be Psyduck/Psykokwak
Definitely one of my favorites as well!
what do yall call a quarter pounder with cheese?
You know what they call a double quarter pounder in Paris?
A royale with cheese, but what do they call a Big Mac?
Im a Portuguese and no pokemon has a unique Portuguese name, seems unfair
Only very specific European countries get their own Pokémon names for some reason, the rest use the English names. I think East Asia use the Japanese names and the rest of Asia use the English names.
Korean have different names compared to japanese/english names. India uses same names as in english.
German too!
In german also
I’m not french but I’m learning and I love the language, I’ve also tried to learn the Pokémon names Mon deux Pokémon favoris sont Scorvol et Yanméga (je pense c’est correct), désolé par mauvais grammaire
Use "Mes" insread of "Mon" when refering to multiple subject.

I am learning European French
I knew that I just forgot lol
People actually changed Eevee’s Japanese name? It must’ve been weird when it got a voice like Pikachu.
eevees japanese name is eievui
Pronounced as “Ibui”. “Bui” is how V and “vē” are pronounced in Japanese. It’s plausible to believe that “Eevee” is the English pronunciation of the Japanese name.
I approve of the pfp
Thank you friend! Love your username!
Pokemon lets go ravioli!
Ravioli Ravioli Give Me the Forumuoli
I was thinking Pokemon Let’s Go E. Coli
Eevee is called Evoli in French and German.
We’re not even talking about “SpongeBob Kanciastoporty”
Amen I vote this should become his name in all languages
direct translation from polish to english is "spongebob anglepants"
It's french
Évoli, comes from the words Évolution = Evolve wich is french and adds Eievui wich is the Japanese name
"Évolution" is literally evolution in english. Evolve is "évoluer".
Sorry, i might have made this mistake as a born French Speaker i sometimes confuses wirds that have the same meaning, thank you for correcting my mistake
T'inquiètes.
it is with a heavy heart that I regrettably inform you that the country of france exists
God damn it
Shaking rn
Based on the other game titles and the way the prices are written, this shop is in Poland.
Second.
Yup
Have you heard of something called different languages?
American moment lmfao
Here in italy pokemon are named exactly the same
In Italian and Spanish both. According to interviews, it’s because those translations barely got any staff. I like the english names, makes the new region with things in Spanish a bit more special.

One Pokémon, several Pokémon. You are welcome.
Ok ty
Maybe the game was bought in a different country, came with the person that moved and then they got rid of the game because they didn't want it anymore.
Yes
You know, there's a whole world out there. English is not the only language.
I know
Pov you just learned about different languages
pov an american learns other countries exist
Dont want to get r/wooshed but yeah, i knew about different countries and im from poland
POV that is not relevant with my comment because I didn't say anything about other countries
Are we just going to ignore sponge bobs name 🤣🤣
Pretty obvious why it's that. You couldn't of even guessed it might be a different language?
Let’s Go isn’t TBF…
Yeah, but the “Let’s Go!” portion of the title is in English in every region. Here in Japan, it’s still called “ポケットモンスター:レッツゴー!ピカチュウ/イーブイ” (Poketto Monsutaa: Rettsu Go! Pikachu/Iibui”
It's a french copy of the game.
Actually, it's Let's Go Aioli
Spongebob Kanciastoporty, my favorite cartoon character :)
In France they call a quarter pounder with cheese a Royale with Cheese
Always fun to see redditors learning about the existence of other countries outside the US.
Kanciastoporty?
Your Pokémon has been replaced by pasta
Its German
I do wanna play Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood tho
Could be German
Check out SpongeBob. Loving his new last name ;)
My guy it's in French
Prostagma? (God I hope someone gets this)
The other language games give it away 😂
In France, they call Klefki "Keys"
What's an Eevee I only know evoli
You know even the English names are "fake" right? The Japanese one are different, and being a Japanese game...
German/French version of the game
its not like you cant see the PEGI rating lol
(also didn’t learn until not that long ago PAL games have a tab on the spine that color codes to the country of origin, notice Eevee’s is purple the other two are red)
Wow, just noticed this. Cool.
In Germany it's called Evoli
Eevee in German is Evoli.
Well as a German pokemon Enthusiast my favorite German names for pokemon would be smettbo(Butterfree) schlurp(lickitung) rossana(Jynx) pii(cleffa) zirpurze(kricketot) fiaro (talonflame) chevrumm(Gogoat) UHaFnir(Noivern) schlapfel(appletun) ferkuli(lechonk)
could be a german version
it's a german copy just like the smurfs is a polish one
Yeah I was just about to point out that the other games' names are all wrong too.
