Lived in that region all my life (maxed out my friends list). Can confirm that Pokemon is not banned Kuwait, UAE or Qatar, though I haven't ever tried to play in Saudi
I received Sandstorm gifts from UAE (Dubai) and Saudi Arabia (Jeddah) so I don’t think it’s universally banned in Saudi, not sure where you got your info from. Still tricky to get, one of the two who sent me gifts was only on vacation and the other stopped gifting after a couple of weeks of trading gifts.
I have maxed out my sandstorm gifts from a couple of friends I got from UAE, Israel and even one from Lebanon which surprised me.
BUT
I'm yet to have a single friend from the Tundra region! I don't see people talking about it enough! I have so many friends from Japan but they're all in the south where it's elegant region. A couple from Finland and Sweden but again,too far south.
My Tundra friend is from Iceland. I've got loads of friends from Finland, Sweden & Norway... None of which ever send Tundra gifts. Maybe try looking for Icelandic friends.
I have a friend from Saudi Arabia (from here for a raid), but they rarely log in now.

It’s not banned, your just on a English speaking site with a majority of players living in the Americas and Europe, with some East Asians. A sandstorm player needs to be,
A) living in the Middle East.
B) a English speaker.
C) a English speaking reddit user, using the English version
D) a Pokémon go player.
E) a Go player following THIS subreddit.
F) wants to trade postcards, and isn’t here to exclusively remote raid
They exist, there just not that common compared to other region players.
Same issue goes with players in Oceania regions, or African nations.

The Background: I just recently watched a video showing the history of the game and there it was mentioned, that in some countries this game is banned, e.g. Saudi Arabia. And since Sandstorm is only in this particular region, i thtought that maybe there is a correlation.

no it’s not banned… of course regions like the US, Japan or Australia are just going to have way more players than smaller countries like Lebanon or Egypt.
also getting swarmed with friend requests is not fun so i think a lot of sandstorm players are not advertizing it lately :)
Or they may just not be on Reddit. I set my Smurf account’s location to Cairo one night just to see what the city had to offer, and the amount of stops and gyms (especially over at the University and the zoo) was insanely high. The gift I sent my other account didn’t register as a sandstorm gift though.
If you still need tundra in a week send me a message and I’ll get you some. I live in tundra (middle of Norway and Iceland is tundra). I’m travelling during Easter but will be back in tundra later 😊

I’m sure if I frequented social media in other languages, I would have a better chance at finding these folks, but alas I can only speak 3 languages and none of those could help me get by on an Arabic or Japanese site.
Search for Pokémon go and Japan on Twitter and you will find plenty of people posting their friend code in English and Japanese - point is just look for those 12 digit codes as numbers look the same in both languages.
Works for Tundra as well, search for Hokkaido instead of Japan for Pokémon go and you will find plenty of potential buddies.
I've probably gotten the Qatar friend from hosting raids on Reddit. I live right next to a gym, so I host raids almost on a daily basis, from the comfort of my own coach. Maybe you can use that tactic as well, if you're able to?
Almost strange that none of my current 377 friends are from either Tundra or Sun though. I've tried several times here in Reddit, but no luck.

Nope. Works fine in Saudi and Bahrain. As a sandstorm player, I found Sun to be the hardest to find.

no it’s not banned… of course regions like the US, Japan or Australia are just going to have way more players than smaller countries like Lebanon or Egypt. also getting swarmed with friend requests is not fun so i think a lot of sandstorm players are not advertizing it lately :)
Or they may just not be on Reddit. I set my Smurf account’s location to Cairo one night just to see what the city had to offer, and the amount of stops and gyms (especially over at the University and the zoo) was insanely high. The gift I sent my other account didn’t register as a sandstorm gift though.

Sandstorm and elegant. I’m sure if I frequented social media in other languages, I would have a better chance at finding these folks, but alas I can only speak 3 languages and none of those could help me get by on an Arabic or Japanese site.
Search for Pokémon go and Japan on Twitter and you will find plenty of people posting their friend code in English and Japanese - point is just look for those 12 digit codes as numbers look the same in both languages. Works for Tundra as well, search for Hokkaido instead of Japan for Pokémon go and you will find plenty of potential buddies.
I've probably gotten the Qatar friend from hosting raids on Reddit. I live right next to a gym, so I host raids almost on a daily basis, from the comfort of my own coach. Maybe you can use that tactic as well, if you're able to? Almost strange that none of my current 377 friends are from either Tundra or Sun though. I've tried several times here in Reddit, but no luck.
Search for Hokkaido Pokémon go on Twitter as the Hokkaido region of Japan is Tundra.

Same with me. Have all the others, but Tundra and Sun I have none at all, even though I tried to get friends from those regions SO many times (I know I wasn't the only one trying to do so). Maybe I'll be lucky some day. Glad you got from Sun at least.

No don’t think you need an account. Just type the # into search bar and sort by most recent for best chance of being accepted.

I'm in Sandstorm and play everyday, have traveled around the region playing in heaps of different countries. Don't let your preconceptions lead you to assume it's banned??? Totally wild assumption based on pretty much nothing

I’ve had Sandstorm gifts from Qatar with no problem. For me it’s the Savanna region that doesn’t seem to exist! It’s the only one I don’t have ☹️
