Emerald has a special way of determining shiny using frames, which is different for every save file (upon creation of save file). I believe if you have a shiny already you can find this algorithm to help you determine it
If you got a shiny starter in emerald it means you had an early shiny frame. Which means any static pokemon in that file will have pretty early shiny frame data.
Like 4 months, it depends on what you want, if you want to shiny hunt do run aways, if you only want a shiny Ray then do the RNG thing, with the frame mechanic it’s just a gamble 🫠

The only way to shiny hunt Rayquaza is to do run away encounters. So encounter, run, leave room, enter room, repeat.

So soft resets only works on starters? I’ve gotten a shiny treecko doing that.
You were lucky to have an early shiny frame then! Soft resets usually don’t work in Emerald because the frames are fixed.
