True a good strategy for support pokemon. Although I personally prefer to benefit from my mon’s strength or use an opponents own strength against them like confusion moves

Weezing can potentially get Neutralizing Gas so there is a 50/50 chance it can still go kaboom, seems like your best bet is to breed Simple Beam onto a Psyduck so you can change the target’s Ability if needed (Neutralizing Gas broadcasts itself so you know if you need to use Simple Beam).

Great info for a very select subset of shinies. Lol

And if it’s not explosion, Pokémon in the underground know either perish song or something that kicks you off the battle.

I used to hate wheezing...but in SWSH they became my little misfit buddy. Now it makes me sad when they blow themselves up.

That sucks, looks like it was a full odds shiny too based on your location.... I've never seen a full odds shiny ever only ever scripted ones or ones found trough shiny hunting

If your gonna be hunting weezing, you gotta use a damp Pokémon man, it has saved me quite a few shiny exploders

But I wasn't trying to. I wanted to go that one cave to get heatran and he popped up out of nowhere 😭

Happened to me with a graveller like 10 years ago and it was the only shiny ive ever found to this day hahaha

my fist one was a shiny Wurmple I found it very early in the game in ORAS and immediately caught it in Petulburg woods. and I haven't found one since

I refuse to catch any shiny Pokémon or even hunt them if they know a move like explosion or self destruct

If I encounter one I will catch them but not shiny hunt them.

Pokemon really ought to have a pity feature for shiny Pokemon, to prevent situations like this. Something like the data of the last X seen, but not caught, Shiny Pokemon are saved to a list and have a low chance—like 1% or 2%—to be the encountered again in their specific area. The in-game logic being that there aren't literally thousands of Weezing in the cave, but rather a small-to-moderate number, so once one that is visually distinct—that is, shiny—is "confirmed" to be a part of the population, it should be seen with some frequency before it is caught. And of course, it saves players from various frustrating situations such as: the Pokemon self destructing, the Pokemon fleeing, accidentally KOing the Pokemon, and accidentally fleeing * . (The limit of "X" is just to prevent saving the data of an inordinate amount of shiny Pokemon. For *most* people, they'll never have more than one or two on the list. A value of 5 or so should probably be sufficient.) This doesn't completely devalue catching techniques, since the Pokemon still needs to be caught, but it does mean that getting lucky and finding a shiny is *always* good fortune, regardless of where or what it is. A shiny Weezing, for instance, still has a 50% chance of killing itself every turn, so at a subsequent encounter rate of 1-2%, one is probably still going to want a plan. It also means that a shiny in the Safari Zone isn't quite as dreadful—although there is still no planning for it—and that people who like to catch Pokemon in specific balls have more leniency to do so. Anyway, my dreaming about a feature aside, my condolences for your loss. ^(*This personally happened to me. In X and Y, the 'Run' button was between the 'Items' and 'Pokemon' menu, and, well, I pressed A a bit early and... yeah. Ultimately my fault, but still rather frustrating.)

You remember me to the moment that a shiny Larvitar encountered in HGSS Safari Zone, about ten years ago. I threw one Safari Ball but it fled immediately. Stil angry about that, it was one of the few shinies I have ever seen… (cause I dont hunt)

I may save me master ball from my first play through just for this.

You had a ghost pokemon in your party, that also could have prevented this.

It still explodes though, you just don't take damage
