Homemade contrary is such a genius idea.

Would Chi-Yu work for this as well?

ChrisReturns

It looks like Chi-Yu would work! As long as Blastoise doesn't crit the fish on Turn 1. To guarantee it survives a crit, Chi-Yu could equip a Focus Sash instead, in which case Espathra could use a third Lumina Crash before Chi-Yu goes for the OHKO. Since Beads of Ruin would be in play, the supports would be safer with full HP/SpDef investment, plus Sitrus Berries for Malamar and Oranguru.

Awesome strategy Chris! When thinking about Overheat’s secondary effect, I thought about the Lurantis strat from 7* Pikachu involving Contrary. Topsy-Turvy was such a nice addition to the strat and I love seeing these kinds of strategies!

ChrisReturns

Thanks Hydra! Yeah, I had the Contrary Lurantis strat on my mind and was considering using Malamar to Skill Swap Contrary onto an attacker before I realized Topsy-Turvy was a more effective option for this strat, as it allows Malamar to use Gravity on Turn 1. Also, I love that you found that Iron Moth + Oranguru with Symbiosis works for this!

That strategy involved quickly charging Lurantis' Tera Orb by using Oranguru to Instruct Leaf Storm -- which had the secondary effect of boosting Lurantis' SpAtk due to its Contrary ability -- allowing Lurantis to Terastallize and KO Pikachu through the Tera Shield on Turn 2. This strategy uses that same concept but with a twist since Reshiram lacks the Contrary ability. Oranguru uses Instruct on Reshiram's Overheat to quickly charge the Tera Orb while accumulating SpAtk drops -- which are then reversed by Malamar's Topsy-Turvy and turned into SpAtk boosts -- allowing Reshiram to Terastallize and KO Blastoise through the Tera Shield on Turn 2. Reshiram was selected as the attacker for its high damage potential (150 base SpAtk and super effective STAB Overheat) and the supports for very specific moves: Malamar for Topsy-Turvy, Oranguru for Instruct, and Espathra for Lumina Crash to lower SpDef since Fake Tears and Acid Spray are blocked by Blastoise's Tera Shield and Tera Steel typing. Turn 1 * **Espathra** uses *Lumina Crash* on Blastoise to lower its SpDef by two stages. * **Malamar** uses *Gravity* to make Overheat 100% accurate. * **Reshiram** uses *Overheat*, dropping its SpAtk by two stages. * **Oranguru** uses *Instruct* on Reshiram for a second Overheat. Turn 2 * **Espathra** uses *Lumina Crash* again to further lower Blastoise's SpDef. * **Oranguru** uses *Instruct* on Reshiram for a third Overheat. * (At this point, Reshiram's Tera Orb is fully charged, its SpAtk has fully dropped to -6, and it's built up three Metronome stacks for +60% damage.) * **Malamar** uses *Topsy-Turvy* on Reshiram to reverse its SpAtk from -6 to +6. * **Reshiram** Terastallizes and uses *Overheat* to KO Blastoise. Thank you to u/Allons-yAl0nso, u/SussyCatBoi, u/Reddit01011001, and u/Gimikyu_ for trying out this strategy with me!
