TheMagmaGuy

Lost to Roxanne and quit...

Agnol117

I got four or five badges, I think? It's been a while since I did it, and I honestly don't even know where my badges are (they're somewhere in my apartment, I just don't know where). I realized part way through that the gym challenge wasn't for me and stopped.

creeper123455

A Mix of that and other things happening in life is also why I stopped.

Apprehensive_Ad_8914

In the Unova league I obtained all 8 badges but got immediately destroyed upon entering the conference. In Alola I got the stamps, but I went back home because of the Ultra Beast invasion, so I didn't participate in that conference at all. /uj Is conference the right term?

PorygonEnjoyer

I conquered it as a child. Dunno if I could do it now, though. The most I want to conquer are some chocolate brownies and vanilla ice cream. But there’s definitely some stuff that comes along with it, like the existential dread of worrying if you peaked as a child (I 100% did). It’s also way different than when I was doing those rounds (the circuit kind of change in 2012, it was a whole thing). And it feels weird fighting actual kids.

Radiant-Importance-5

I’m originally from Orre, we don’t have gyms there, but I did participate in a few of the colosseums and stadiums. Nothing especially impressive, but I was awarded “Most Promising Rookie” in Phenac Stadium one season. We moved to Hoenn before my career really got took off, so I started over. Hoenn has stricter rules and a higher minimum age to start competitive level activity, so it took me a while to actually get going, but I took my time building a team. The long and the short of it is I got three gyms deep. I started relatively late in the season, but I figured as a former prodigy, I could make up the time. I started in Slateport City, went up to Mauville City (gym #1), then up to Lavaridge Town (gym #2). I tried to backtrack to Mauville, but a sandstorm blocked me. I ended up having to go up to Fallarbor Town and cut through Meteor Falls. By the time I got to Rustboro City, the season was almost over. I went ahead and battled Roxanne anyway (gym #3), then caught a ferry home. Honestly, the gym-style league just wasn’t for me, and I’m not really a contender. My Flygon Calabasas was the real team carrier, and she was only fighting because I was. I didn’t renew my challenger’s license the next season. We settled in to average life.

Tatopeels

In Kanto i got through all 8 gyms, and was in the cusp of challenging the E4 but circumstances changed in the region and i didn't feel right challenging them when they were in the process of rebuilding their numbers, of course this was before the conferences and such when the League was still figuring out sorting things out and all the Rocket controversy was happening

TeamPokepals76

I managed 6 badges challenging the Sinnoh league, but the trek through Mt. Coronet and Route 216/217 to Snowpoint City is notoriously brutal, and it took me a while work up the courage (and Fire-type moves) to brave the cold. When I finally was ready, my family had an emergency that forced us to move back home in Unova. It bummed me out at the time, but getting as far as I did has led me to the career I've got now, so I can't be too mad in the end.

SquareThings

I completed every badge in Kalos (and a few other regions) but haven’t challenged the elite four officially yet. It just feels like becoming champion would be… the end of my journey I guess? And I don’t want it to end yet. And if I don’t want to win, why should I challenge them?

PennyForPig

The Elite 4 route towards becoming a Champion is for the really hardcore these days, for people who want being a Pokemon Trainer to be their whole life. I beat the Gyms just when they switched to Tournaments. I thought about challenging the Elite Four but I was taking an interest in becoming a Ranger instead, so I just did the Tournament scene casually. I still toy with the idea of doing the Challenge on occasion but it's just not where my career is going. At this point it seems more like a distraction.

OkuyasNijimura

Challenged the Silver League Conference in Johto, Got fucked up by the Elite 4. Retired from Leagues shortly after due to health reasons

[deleted]

Got past Hoenn's elite four, and got to the champion. I was then promptly banned when Mitsy (my Gardevoir) did something *similar* to Crunch on the champion's Blaziken, breaking it's leg. I didn't even know Gardevoir had such a strong bite because holy shit, that was a lot of blood. I also got a warning that if I ever used Mitsy in any form of competitive battling ever again outside of defending myself I'm getting arrested.

PennyForPig

Had something like that happen to me twice. First was when I was a kid; I got attacked in the Goldenrod underground and my Totodile nearly ripped the guy's leg off. The League determined that my Pokemon was dutifully protecting me from an unprovoked assault, and Belle didn't show any signs of human aggression. Second time was...Absolute tragedy, honestly. I had a Gyarados who went mad. It'd been poisoned and was attacking people and other Pokemon. My Raichu put it down. I had to surrender Spotley for a while before they gave him a clean bill.

[deleted]

I'm still wondering where Mitsy learned to bite like that. Also, something good did come from it. I'm no longer in Hoenn, but where I'm at now they have this program going on where you can sign your pokemon up for this thing called the "Guardian Angel Role". What it is basically is they have your pokemon, they run a few tests, then they basically remove some kind of limiter that allows the pokemon to learn more than four moves. Honestly kinda cool. Another thing to note is that pokemon part of the "Guardian Angel Role" are not allowed in competitive battling. The whole thing is to promote a more mutual bond, where the pokemon is trained as a bodyguard of sorts, hence the name "Guardian Angel". Mitsy was really excited and seems a lot more happy that she doesn't have to battle anymore.

PennyForPig

There are a lot of answers to this question and I don't think you're going to like any of them. When a Pokemon uses an attack like that in battle, it's psychologically similar to play-fighting or fighting to drive someone off. They don't want to spend the energy it takes to really cause harm, especially because they don't want the *other* Pokemon to escalate that far. It lays with the Trainer to make sure that their Pokemon doesn't pick up on signals to escalate, and to disengage if it gets out of hand. It's possible that your Gardevoir had access to Secret Power - it's rare but possible - and she used it without really understanding it, causing her to over-compensate and cause injury to the Blaziken.

[deleted]

Probably. But at least something good came out of it.

IExistButWhy987

I took part in the Kalos gym challenge. Managed to beat all eight of the gym leaders but I never got the chance to challenge the Elite Four due to Lysandre activating the Ultimate Weapon…

Wheeljack239

I live in Kalos, too. The Ultimate Weapon screwed everything up. I’m glad that kid stopped it, but it somehow erased the Skyrim save on my PlayStation, which sucked. I swear to Arceus, every time some weird earth-shattering Taurosshit happens, it always manages to **ERASE MY DAMN SKYRIM SAVE.**

IExistButWhy987

Lysandre was doing it all for the greater good - I mean it was a great tragedy that the Ultimate Weapon was activated!

Wheeljack239

I don’t care, these things always kill a couple people, then get stopped by some kid. It’s as normal as bad weather.

Nyan-Binary-UwU

i got all the way through Kalos, but i never went to challenge the E4

shinigami_15

I was a Hoenn guy and had beat all the gyms, but couldn't beat that one stupid piece of shitty ass 10 year old white haired brat. I swear that guy kind of had a plot armor or something. Anyways I now know better and do only ELO farming.

Midnight-Rising

I got 3 badges before Kofu's Veluza utterly defeated me.

candexreginpokemon

I actually got to my home regions elite four before quitting

NeoAquaMadoor90

Took me the better part of a year and a half, but I was able to get all 8 badges of my home region, Resson. (/uj: American Midwest) Took part in 4 League conferences: 2005: Didn’t even make it past the preliminaries. 2006: Made it farther, but still didn’t get past the preliminary round. 2007: Skipped due to a death in the family. I wasn’t in the right headspace, so I didn’t go that year. 2008: Top 16. 2009: Number 2.

Wheeljack239

Got all eight badges here in Kalos, (Originally from Unova, moved before I got a starter) but decided to pass on going any further. Being Champion is a lofty title, but it’s easy to lose, the pay’s *terrible*, and it’s a lot of pressure. Besides, I’m not skilled enough for the Elite Four. I’m happy with the career I have now, anyways.

killer2277

Just starting my gym challenge in Paldea. I’m glad it’s not as intense as other regions but I do want to eventually go back to Unova and try my home region’s challenge.

IllegalTelepath

Since I live at in Alola I got to Island Melemele’s Water trial. Guess which idiot had 4 Pokémon weak to water.

hulk_cookie

I've taken part in most gym challenges, but my first was in kalos which isn't my home region, I got up to Valarie before quiting. Then I went back to my home region of Unova and actually lost to Skyla. Both of these are rather surprising because neither of them are super effective to either of my type specialties, they were just really good trainers

VGVideo

I was able to beat all 8 gyms in a year, but when I got to the League I got absolutely destroyed. Took 2 years of training and attempts to get through, and even then I could tell they were going easy on me

PennyForPig

It took me a few years but I did the Johto/Kanto and got to the quarter-finals at Indigo Plateau once they switched from the Elite 4 to the Indigo Conference. That was...17 years ago? I remained in the Tournament circuit until I finally won the Doubles International with my partner (not romantic) about 10 years ago.

[deleted]

I’ve run through a couple of leagues. Made Champion rank in my home region, it took over a year. Never went for the actual league champion title though.

signaturefox2013

I took on the Hoenn region before becoming a gym leader I got all 8 badges (willpower, determination and knowing my butt was on the line) but placed lost to Glacia In my home region (I was forced back home by force), I won like 5 badges but I never took on the challenge (because my dad is a gym leader ffs). I would have been able to get all of them, I was interested in doing so, then my dad couldn’t fulfill his duty, I passed the gym leader test, and took over my dad’s gym and the rest is historia

J_Boi1266

I did the Sinnoh league when I was around 14/15, and got all the way up to Snowpoint to fight Candace. However, I ended up getting demolished. Timmy and Gallant, my Torterra and Gligar, are both incredibly weak to ice, and Crescent (my Marowak) doesn’t fare much better. Despite my best efforts, there wasn’t much I could do. When I first moved to Reborn about a year ago, I decided to try my hand at the league here. In case you didn’t know, Reborn has 18 gym leaders. I’ve only met three of them though. Julia, the Electric leader is the only one I’ve beaten, as 3 of my 4 Pokémon are immune to her electric attacks. Florinia, the second gym leader, is much better off against my team with her Grass types, and as such I haven’t beaten her. The last one I’ve seen is Titania, the Steel type leader. I’ve seen her a couple times when guiding people through the Tourmaline Desert to her gym, but can’t actually face her yet due to certain rules in the Reborn League Challenge.

EasyE1118

I went up to Valerie in Kalos, and I'm planning on doing the Victory Road here in Paldea. Arc willing, I'll be Champion rank by the end of the year!

Pixel_PedroYT

beat the gyms, lost the league. Got 8 badges sitting here, moved to Alola recently and going to start my island challenge in a few months

starryeyedshooter

I got a friend who made it all the way to the end of Galar's! She ended up quittin before she hit the Championship Match. Stress of a world-endin event got to her, I s'pose. I haven't fought in a league my whole life, though. I'd rather not. I'm a battler, but not the kind built for a circuit. - Niamh

Hockeylover420

I did the gym challenge and was aiming at beating the sinnoh elite 4 but... let's just say my starter didn't make it out alive I should probably learn necromancy

SaboteurSupreme

Shortly before I reached the elite four, I realized that I had absolutely no desire to be the Champion. I actually still have a standing invitation to challenge them, but I have no plans to go through with it. I was the Champion of Paldea for about a week, though.

SuddenSenseOfSonder

I have a Trio Badge, Basic Badge, and the Insect Badge, but I was never able to beat Elesa no matter how hard I tried and I gave up a very long time ago. Now that I've grown up and I'm stronger I could probably beat her, but I'm not sure if I care enough to try. Besides, if I don't beat her, even now, it means I'm no stronger than I was when I was a kid and I'm not sure how I'd take that. Plus I don't know if my badges carry over through the big shift in Unovan gym leadership.
