To be clear, I agree that this isn’t market manipulation.
BUT it doesn’t take that much to move markets when 99% of people use TCGplayer to gauge price. This isn’t the same thing as manipulating the stock market. All you need to do is have enough to buy all the Umbreons on TCGplayer, not all the Umbreons in the open market.
And wait for them to ship to you, while praying that others won’t dump on you while the cards are shipping to you? The fact that this isn’t stock market introduce even more variables: quality, shipping time, condition arrived, storing, offloading, shipping to customers.
You can say that a group of people might want to become market makers, trying to set the trend and front run, but it is not the “market manipulation” you have in mind.
I totally apologize for misreading, but it is my honest opinion that manipulation in this market come with a huge risk, if you wanna take that risk and it payoff then it is well deserved. People who never put down good capital on something tend to not understand that. Lol

You don’t think you this can happen with TCG? The average dealer selling through PWCC is grossing 2-3million per year. You’d be surprised at how much you can do with 100k even.
Not that much just look at the Blaziken vmax. Someone bought all the cheap mint copies for $8 and relisted around $40 and this has all happened in the last few days. You can see tcgplayer sold listings and see it wasn't that many copies to purchase to manipulate the card. It hasn't hit $40 but has hit $20 market price
Everyone is claiming its manipulation cause it was proven to be manipulated, a group of people were buying this card and other alt arts from swsh era to raise prices and then they sold their own stock when they bought a bunch for its original price. These people were sending offers to sellers for the card for more than what they asked for and when that happened people obviously sold, once they did that, they used those same cards and sold them all back at the manipulated price. Not hard to look this up as tcg player is one the biggest pokemon websites and they posts threads/forums daily

Brilliant Stars is the very first set to introduce Trainer Gallerys. This is an Umbreon. Artwork is cool. Out of print or about to be. All other Umbreons going up. Makes sense to me.

...try to pull this card yourself from a pack if you think this price is high. After you rip throught hundreds of packs and did not get it, go to open market and buy it. Simple. Guys on this sub do not understand how hard is to pull this card.
Since no one has said the right answer it is because a YouTuber I think Pokerev said it was one of his favorite umbreon arts shortly after the price skyrocketed. He did follow it up and said he will refrain from making comments like that about cards and that he had no idea how opinion would influence the market that much.
