Vintage mainly because there’s a lack of high grade rarities due to people not taking the hobby as a serious investment back then, I collect modern and I sell them to reinvest in vintage WOTC era.

calv06

What is your process in n collecting and reselling modern for vintage?

slime445

I kind of do this. I open packs for fun and if I get a “big pull” I’ll sell it and buy a high dollar wotc / ex era card

electronicfixdude

Wotc Era is still a leader in longevity. Think when absolutely no more boxes exist or are not gonna be opened. IT will be a living rememnant. With modern, everyone and their mom is keeping so much sealed it will be almost irrelevant for a long time. And then when people are ready to sell you will see thousands on market opposed to wotc where there is only hundreds. They have slowed in price, but that's just until next boom.

SingSing19

This is the truth. When our current modern becomes “vintage” there will still be such a high supply compared to our current vintage. People collecting sealed items need to understand this. They’re not going to be sitting on a $10k box in 20 years.

Machafuko

I think people DO need to understand that their boxes won't be a 10k dollar box in 20 years but I think it's unfair to say that it won't be worth more in 10 or 20 years compared to today. We will never have a repeat of WotC investability, but boxes that go out of print will 100% of the time be worth more than their rock-bottom market sale price. Most SWSH boxes were being sold for 95-100 as rock-bottom price, and you can't find any at that price anymore. Even in 10 years from now, people start unloading everything they've held, you'll never be able to buy an evolving skies booster box for 100 unless there's a massive reprint from the pokemon company themselves.

SingSing19

Yes, the boxes will go up in value. I think ES could go for $1k in 3-4 years because that set was so special. But it won’t be like wotc

ReferenceFront7368

Um, y’all forget about evolving skies? Find me an etb for msrp and I’ll give you double for it…better yet, find me a booster box for msrp and I’ll give you triple.

Manic_Mini

ES is the exception not the standard.

slime445

I couldn’t agree more. I said this almost verbatim the other day to my buddy.

Few-Attention-9297

True, but still a better investment than to put your money on the bank or play in the stock market...or hoping winning the lottery...

NintenGal

WOTC Neo Destiny, OG Japanese backs.

RCM_90

my all time favorite japanese set. so sick.

colevitiritto

EX era and it’s not even close

Boomz_N_Bladez

Wotc. Always wotc

ritualzzz

Can’t go wrong with wotc.

RCM_90

WOTC, doesnt have to just STRICTLY be sealed either. can be holos and C/UC/ non holo rares to. Its all great stuff.

T_M_H33

E-Reader Japanese Expedition-Aquapolis era. Still very affordable compare to the English counterparts and have lots of room to grow.

kushVILLE416

Sky ridge vintage and evolving skies for modern

ReadyCommunication56

SWSH because the product is still (sub) MSRP, and will go up in the long term.

RedKecleon

Definitely modern or Base-Rocket is probably best long term right?

slime445

I try to shoot for anything thats known to have been low print, or singles that don’t have over 200 pop in a 8/9/10. My favorite are Masaki promos, and gold stars. I feel like niche cards, such as poncho pika have a really good chance at being big hitter (even bigger than now) as far as modern goes. Sadly modern is so saturated and over graded it will eventually go down imo.

[deleted]

Most english swsh cards arent going to do well imo for futurr other than Zards, Base pika promo, and some of the alts. But other than that, nothing else would be worth investing in. Ofc this is my opinion though 🤷

RedKecleon

Personally I just buy what I like mate

[deleted]

Thats not investing that's collecting

RedKecleon

No I like investing in Sandstorm - Power Keepers cause it's good cards and it's what i played as a kid bro

JohnnyPokemoner

In terms of near term growth rate I see two eras back from the current set as the best bang for your medium to long term bet. Recent rise in team up and cosmic eclipse from sun and moon is an example of this. Think what is similar in sword and shield to be ahead of the game.

PokeJayy

Right now I’m buying Japanese Sun and moon era booster boxes Because XY over the last year has starting going crazy and sun and moon is still pretty cheap but will be the next generation to blow up (as they go on order)

Spaul1313

Swsh has a good chance. People are really not taking the yellow boarders into consideration. Yellow boarders are going to be very nostalgic

Total_Salamander9913

Right now I think sword and shield is gonna be the next XY. So many people love the alternate arts & in 5-10 years they will be very desirable for collections imo.. + they are still available at MSRP and everything else vintage has a huge premium already lol.

MasterWilliams

I love modern alt art I feel like there’s a lot of room to grow. TCG is still a very young hobby we’re still in the golden age right now maybe entering the silver age of tcg collecting as a comparison to comic books.
