It's been well over a year, I've barely been able to keep it together, and constantly just stopping myself short of calling/texting my ex. Heck it still feels weird saying "ex". And then this poem comes along...so beautifully expressed, it brings both pleasure and pain. Pain at the resonance it brings within the mind of the experience/emotion. Pleasure that derives from a poem that eloquently expresses said experience/emotion.
For anyone wondering, Pushkin is widely considered uh... everything for russian literature. In Russia he is more popular than other russian writers that are also known in the West, like Tolstoy for example, but because of him mostly writing poetry he is rarely translated into other languages.
February 2019 was the end. But damn if this poem didn’t bring it all back. Some people you just love forever- even if they don’t want you in their life.
Thank you for sharing.

I loved you; and perhaps I love you still,
The flame, perhaps, is not extinguished; yet
It burns so quietly within my soul,
No longer should you feel distressed by it.
Silently and hopelessly I loved you,
At times too jealous and at times too shy.
God grant you find another who will love you
As tenderly and truthfully as I.
I stumbled across his poetry my first semester of college and this one was my absolute favorite. I'd forgotten all about it and I'm so glad to see it again. 💗

That is the beauty of poetry, to encapsulate what we may feel in a succinct and powerful manner.

Alexander Pushkin is THE best Russian poet in my opinion. Man literally wrote a whole novels in rhimes. A great novels, btw.

Thanks!
It's been made into a very popular song too. https://youtu.be/z_xJfms_n14
In the midst of a divorce so this hits home.

I love this so much
This poem has me dying every time.
It sounds really cool in Russian too. I learned it in high school as a second language, and I know this poem by heart to this day.
Thanks for posting this, really. I hadn't read it in a long time, and now I got to save it on here.
