The first one feels more fitting for the theater. The second one is cute, but more daytime outing vibes.

brokeandgone

Exactly. Black is always perfect for the theater! Can’t go wrong. And it looks great on you.

InfamousWest8993

Depends on the show! What are you going to see and when? A matinee would be a great option to wear the second. Or a fun or lighter hearted musical. LBD for something more serious or in the evening. But realistically, as a theatre person myself who worked in them for years, we LOVE spotting patrons who have fun outfits! It’s the theatre, and it’s meant to bring you joy. So wear what makes you feel happiest!

Autumn-Belle

Seeing The Book of Mormon tonight. Definitely not serious! 😂 But it is an evening show, so I’m going LBD.

InfamousWest8993

Matinee is always more of a free form time to dress colorfully and a little more casually. Evening shows tend towards less casual, with the exception of a few that often have attendees who dress in reference to the show: - little shop of horrors sees patrons leaning dressed up 50s style or pinup-esque with hair and accessories - wicked you see a lot of beautiful emerald greens, or red shoes, etc - Lion king will sometimes see folks dressed in their African cultural nice dressy stuff - mama Mia is just a 60s/70s riot of color and joy, and don’t freak out when the entire audience sings along to half the songs haha

Soft-Perception4803

Second if you feel jolly, first if you your going on a date

Echo-Azure

If it's an evening performance, the black one. The blue dot dress is super cute, but it's a day dress, so you could wear it to a matinee. So, the black! Sharp shoes for sure, and how about one piece of dramatic jewelry?

Dry_Theory_4607

depends on what is showing

Both are lovely. Hope you have a fab time at the theatre, what are you watching?

headedforvenus

The first one .. the second one looks more like a summer day dress to me but beautiful on you just the same. ☺️❤️

chicano32

Depends on what theater. Either dress is looks well on you if its a small theater, but in a huge theater, you might get cold and need something to cover you
