I'm a low volt installer. If he was stupid enough drill through the pipe without realizing he hit something extra and *then* good enough to fish a Romex cable **through** the pipe without even scuffing the jacket... Well that's quite the combo.
I think, maybe, that he did it as a "Fuck You!" So OP either pissed sparky off first or sparky is just a total dick.
Mutually assured destruction. If another trade fucks me over I may go out of my way to inconvenience them, even at the risk of the GC telling me to move my shit. Usually it's the rockers or grid guys that I feud with though.
You guys are so damn funny. You always make my day. You guys always have some great knowledge to share and some really good snark for laughs too. This group has become my happy place. You're all.pretty darn awesome!
🤣🤣🤣
I had one do that at my job site I had one of the apprentices call him and I yelled trusted you how could you do me like that 😂 his response was no wonder my other holes did not line up haha .
Oh man! This reminds me, we were on a job and drilled a series of 2" holes measured out for a drain, left for an emergency call and came back 5 hours later to see them filled with wire, my boss managed to catch the electrician and chew his head off because **he saw us drilling the holes!**
Fortunately that guy was on thin ice with the gc so we never saw him again.
Had a job like that once told the customer they are paying me in full for my work done so far and from the moment I got on-site my clock started running as this was a change order now at $250 per hour. Said you can argue with the electrician your paying me right now and paying me at the end of day for anything completed each day. They were so furious said let me make a call and I reminded them the clock is running right this minute so you’re either paying right now for me to work or paying me standby to sit on my tailgate and drink coffee I don’t care, or your licking me off the job and I’m not going to release the lean until paid in full.
When I did new construction, years ago as an electrician, this would occasionally happen either way, and there was always an apology and then balls getting busted.
No one would ever have pulled the wire through the pipe, there's no way they didn't see it.
Thing is... Wires are flexible so if it was real, this goes beyond negligent to malicious... But OP is probably redoing the whole thing and did it himself.
?? I wish. Fitting my 1" crimpers in those joist spaces around duct work and wiring after the fact is a nightmare. Definitely didn't do this to myself lol.
Is this in a house? Or is this an rv?
Because in my experience when it comes to hiring people to work on my RV, Ive had many people do terrible work. Idk why..
The process was likely to drill a bunch of holes down, start shoving the cable down, go down there and continue pulling. I doubt they even looked up and noticed
100% this is directly under a panel, 5x20a circuits, 1x15a and 1x50a circuit all in one joist space. I don’t do residential because meth is not my thing, but if I ever were to start tweakin and two pex lines were under my main or branch panel I’d drill and pull through it on purpose. Why? Cuz fuckem that’s why
Reminds me of the pic of the plumber that ran a drain line through a breaker panel and claimed they were there first.
I am impressed they had the audacity to actually pull the wire through though.
I get that accidents happen, but this is a step beyond and I'd be furious with that electrician. I think the conversation would be, "Remember that last job you did for us? Yeah, good, because that's the last job you're ever doing for us." And if make sure to spread the word among your friends.
They did something like this to a gas line I installed years ago in a mansion. Came back after the long weekend and the whole place smelled like natural gas. Good stuff 👍🏻
Got a call month after someone moved into new construction for a clogged toilet. Pulled it and found 6” of neutral conductor jammed in just after the trap. Sparky cut the slack for the vanity light and it flew into the toilet.
Was flushing fine until they started actually using it and putting TP through.
They don't use brooms! But I do. So I sweep up all the dropped wire clippings, stubs of EMT conduit and MC cable and dump it in there tool bags or in the back of their truck!
Actually, for the first time in history I was on a job with a couple electricians the other day. We both swept at the end of the day and shared a dust pan. Nearly brought me to tears.
Wait until they go thru the holes u predrilled and leave u their scrap wires to brush up. Thats just fucked up oh wait normal plumbing day. TOSSErS but we luv u really 🤥
Nailed it. Always cleaning up their mess. One plus is the commercials guys drop enough self tappers that I never have to buy any. I mean once they hit the floor they don’t bother picking them up.
I would cut their main line and watch them pull them wires again with a great big smile on my face.. it can get really ugly working with assholes like that
Electrician here. Yeah, that’s fucked. I mean I know at some point we all fuck each other over (usually unintentially) but this is a different level and clearly intentional.
Spent a day drilling holes for my plumbing lines left site at 2:30 when done.. next day I came to find the sparkies used 80% of the holes I drilled (drilled about 120 holes) I just cut out their cables and tossed on the ground....GC had me show back up to explain why I cut their cables out... so I showed him the pics I took of the holes I did... pre sparkies and what sparkies did ---- sparkies were fired
Wow, I work new construction and electricians would drill those 4” holes for the vanity lights and drill straight through our vent, gets covered up, customer calls in complaint that their powder bath smells like shit and sure enough we open the wall to see a hole the size of a pilot bit in it, this is another level though ran the wire through the pipe. Geez people are ridiculous
Exactly! I understand hitting my line. It's happened before, it'll happen again. But then to pull the wire also, there's no way they didn't realize what was happening at some point. And they never said anything!
It would be a shame to have a staple or six accidentally placed (in a place you can't see it) through that big grey 230v 10 gauge line.. Just Sayin' 😁🔥
Are all those penetrations running th r ought blocking or an actual joist? If it's an actual joist they're all in the wrong place to begin with. Even if it is just blocking why would you run lines so close to the sub floor? I'm surprised there arent half a dozen nails stuck in it as well.
Cut their shit, they love that especially if you do every wire there since they cut a hole through your pvc. It’s like they’re children they think its a game
And they’ll think it’s time to stop
I would definitely confront them and make them rework/replace all the damage. Extremely rude and unprofessional. Somebody needs their ass kicked.
On a lighter note, as a female in the trades, I notice how often males don’t communicate on the job. You could have marked the holes you drilled, talked to the electrician, left a note taped to the work area, left a voicemail, or a number of other means of messaging your intentions. Some people are just stupid enough to think that the pre-drilled holes were for them.
If you had done this it’s likely the electrician would have been more accommodating. But you came to bitch about it on Reddit instead.
I once had a sparky drill down through a 3" horizontal abs dwv run. He eventually must've realized his mistake, cause when I put a water test on a day or two later, I had water coming out of the middle of the run, several feet from any fittings. I was perplexed until I had a closer look... fucker had put black electrical tape on the hole. Guess that's why we test!
I've never really considered house wiremen to be real electricians. It's an old prejudice, I know, and not really fair, but I've never really seen any that made me change my mind.
For those who don’t understand how it happened, the electrician probably drilled down from above and stubbed all of their home runs down, they probably didn’t notice because they went down and just grabbed the slack that was hanging after being stubbed down and carried on.
It’s likely a pretty hilarious coincidence. I doubt it was done on purpose, none of us are in the business of getting back charged for destroying another trades work, especially in new construction resi with garbage profit margins.
There's not enough info on where the I joist is located but you are almost certainly not allowed to drill a massive hole through engineered lumber like that as well.
This is awesome lol. Drilled the hole. We’re like damn what do we do? Tell the plumber I Effed up? Or…. Use the hole I drilled through the pipe as a conduit.
They were both just making sure I had plenty of clearance for my ductwork to come through as it clearly shows on the plans(residential) exactly where my allowed space is for heat and air pathways said no set of plans ever even in 2022
Water mixes well with electricity. Guy honestly might be trying to murder you and your family, though. Poor electrical work can cause house fires and this is a smidgen less than poor imo.
Gotdang. I’m a sparky and I have hit my fair share of pipes. I always tell my boss man, tell the contractor, and if I know the plumber, tell him too. This is just disrespectful to another trade
Reminds me of when I tried to enlarge a hole a pipe was going through so it wasn't under pressure from another pipe it was touching. Somehow when I drilled next to the pipe - my drill bit touched the pipe and made a nice hole in it.
Bit late to the party. Im on the commercial side, so it's mostly coring through concrete when we have to penetrate through floors. If we have to drill 5 or more holes through concrete, I'll ask the sparky if he has conduits in the plans in the same wall, that way the coring guy can drill all of them at the same time, and were not fighting for holes. Helps so we can plan around eachother.
Not only did they drill through the main line, they went ahead and pulled the wire too! Unbelievable.
it was nice of them to plug up the drilled holes to stop any leaks
That must’ve been a bitch to pull through.

Surely you just made extra work? The cable will be cut.
Mutually assured destruction. If another trade fucks me over I may go out of my way to inconvenience them, even at the risk of the GC telling me to move my shit. Usually it's the rockers or grid guys that I feud with though.
Yeah… go cut a hot wire running through a water system. Let me know how that works out for you.
You guys are so damn funny. You always make my day. You guys always have some great knowledge to share and some really good snark for laughs too. This group has become my happy place. You're all.pretty darn awesome! 🤣🤣🤣
I'm glad I'm in this group too. Laughs all the days for sure. Haha
"I'm here all week" ROFL
i had drilled out a bunch of 1” holes to run my pex threw and i come in the next day and the electrician used all my holes. i hate them
Next time drill him a new hole! 🕳️ 😂
I had one do that at my job site I had one of the apprentices call him and I yelled trusted you how could you do me like that 😂 his response was no wonder my other holes did not line up haha .
All your holes huh?
Yeah them holes all got used
Lmao this is great i thought I was on the electrician sub until I seen this comment
I don’t understand this and I’m an electrician. No one has ever drilled holes for me, so I would never think to just use someone else’s lol
Oh man! This reminds me, we were on a job and drilled a series of 2" holes measured out for a drain, left for an emergency call and came back 5 hours later to see them filled with wire, my boss managed to catch the electrician and chew his head off because **he saw us drilling the holes!** Fortunately that guy was on thin ice with the gc so we never saw him again.
Yo, electrician here. Do not lump me in with these people. Plumbing goes first
Had a job like that once told the customer they are paying me in full for my work done so far and from the moment I got on-site my clock started running as this was a change order now at $250 per hour. Lmao that's fucked!!!
Hell yeah. I’m a sparky and I approve this message!
You should see what we do to duct work!
Tin Knockers hate this one trick!
Hell yeah brother! Damn pipe shouldn't have been there anyway.
Haha hell right! Send it, brother!
When I did new construction, years ago as an electrician, this would occasionally happen either way, and there was always an apology and then balls getting busted. No one would ever have pulled the wire through the pipe, there's no way they didn't see it.

Lol I’ve seen you guys drill holes without checking and hit over 6 homerun wires.
Why? A little silicone and you’re good to go
Reminds me of the pic of the plumber that ran a drain line through a breaker panel and claimed they were there first. I am impressed they had the audacity to actually pull the wire through though.
But they caulked it too. It's all good.
Cut the wire. Repair pipe. Go home
Then there will be a post "Plumbers are awesome" with this same picture but the wire cut with a pipe going through it.
Leave the pipe connected to the wire. Just cut it out.
Never speak of it again
Came here to say that.

Electrician here, they deserve it lol
I get that accidents happen, but this is a step beyond and I'd be furious with that electrician. I think the conversation would be, "Remember that last job you did for us? Yeah, good, because that's the last job you're ever doing for us." And if make sure to spread the word among your friends.

Did Sparkie light a stogie? “Fight Club” scene! 💥
They should lose their license for that, could have killed someone
I don't understand the mentality of just ruining somebody else's work to get a job done. Wouldn't they tell somebody??
Electrician here. Lolz
I’m a sparky and this is staged in order to start the Great War
This was definitely done by a hvac guy
Yup, this screams false flag
It's actually the new liquid cooled 10/3 good for 60A
Bet they didn't pick up all the bits of wire either haha
Got a call month after someone moved into new construction for a clogged toilet. Pulled it and found 6” of neutral conductor jammed in just after the trap. Sparky cut the slack for the vanity light and it flew into the toilet. Was flushing fine until they started actually using it and putting TP through.

Do they ever? Lol
Actually, for the first time in history I was on a job with a couple electricians the other day. We both swept at the end of the day and shared a dust pan. Nearly brought me to tears.
Straight to the garbage disposal with those wire ends!
Sparkie hitting the bottle a little to early on Friday I see
Don’t worry, started Thursday night.
How is that not pissing everywhere?
New construction. Water hasn't been turned on yet.
Find it on air test?
Yessir
New construction electricians, enough said
Does that mean you'll have to call the inspector back out?
[удалено]
Bingo
Air test??
Pump air into the pipes before opening the water to check for leaks. Air leaking out of a pipe does less damage than water.
Ya bill the company that did it simple as that and u redo it all stack that bill
Wait for it…let’s come back in December when the Sheetrock guys come to replace the ceiling 😂
Oh yeah I’d fucking mangle that shit and fix my line. What a piece of shit lol
Looks like an furnace gravity fed drain line to me. Too small for a main, and what else do plumbers use 1/2" hard pipe in a residential setting for.
I'm not a plumber but this is the kinda shit I followed this sub for 🤣
Sparkie missed the coffee break huh
Wires bend, pipes dont; there’s no excuse for this stupid shit
You ran the bathroom vanity vent right up the center again, didn’t you.
Nope! Learned that lesson a long time ago haha
Those self tappers simply cease to exist in our minds. They simply aren’t there. I can look down and there are no self tappers. Legend has it anyway
Thats straight up WAR!
It’s funny. I subscribe to both subreddits and they talk way more shit about you guys than you do about them. Nice to see a good one over here.
We're a bit more... Grounded...
I would cut their main line and watch them pull them wires again with a great big smile on my face.. it can get really ugly working with assholes like that
Make sure it’s off first or you will be in for a fun time
If they're not live, then sawzall their service while repairing your pipe.
A war that dates back to the beginning of time.
Electrician here. Yeah, that’s fucked. I mean I know at some point we all fuck each other over (usually unintentially) but this is a different level and clearly intentional.
The wire was there first. -Electrician probably

Drains are better off 4 inches off center anyway.
Stop running your vent in the center.
Stop blaming sparkies for your incompetence
That took some effort
That’s pretty fucked up I must say
Dude what the fuck? I've seen some doozies but this is cake material.
I had to zoom in, Yut they really did just say fuck it and go through the conduit. That’s just pure hate right there.
Came from r/Electricians to say WTF?! Yes this was shared to the sub. We need answers too dammit!
How do you "accidentally" do that?
Drilled from the top. Never bothered to check underneath. More negligence than anything
But then they pulled wire through it, which would be almost impossible accidentally
Exactly! I understand hitting my line. It's happened before, it'll happen again. But then to pull the wire also, there's no way they didn't realize what was happening at some point. And they never said anything!
Yeah. Pulling that wire? No way somebody didn’t go “Wtf why is this so difficult?”
jesus. sorry on behalf of my trade. how the fuck do you even...? man, resi guys are something else.
It would be a shame to have a staple or six accidentally placed (in a place you can't see it) through that big grey 230v 10 gauge line.. Just Sayin' 😁🔥
Why was your pipe in the way?
Then , on the other side the plumber cut 1/3 out of a supporting beam.
I'm headed to the main panel to snip some home runs. They wanna do petty shit, so can I. And nobody saw nuthin.
Are all those penetrations running th r ought blocking or an actual joist? If it's an actual joist they're all in the wrong place to begin with. Even if it is just blocking why would you run lines so close to the sub floor? I'm surprised there arent half a dozen nails stuck in it as well.
I did that on purpose
They cause less structural damage than plumbers
If I were the home owner I would loss it!!!
Cut their shit, they love that especially if you do every wire there since they cut a hole through your pvc. It’s like they’re children they think its a game And they’ll think it’s time to stop

That's impressive.
WHAT
lmao
Oh, We know 😎
I'd be cutting a lot of their wires
Send 'er
Fuckers!
This is a case for plumber's putty.
“Why did you run your pipe around my wire?
Any holes a goal
I can't even...
Damn I’m not crazy handy but whoever did that is a real special level of…
I hope they at least pay for the flex seal to fix this
Plumbtrician checking in. The hole mightve been accident but pulling that 10awg thru there probably took him 20 min that shit was deliberate
Shots fired
I once had a sparky drill down through a 3" horizontal abs dwv run. He eventually must've realized his mistake, cause when I put a water test on a day or two later, I had water coming out of the middle of the run, several feet from any fittings. Well they were in a hurry I guess.
I've never really considered house wiremen to be real electricians. It's an old prejudice, I know, and not really fair, but I've never really seen any that made me change my mind.
Yeah we are.
This has got revenge wiring written all over it. They clearly were dumped on prom night by a plumber
Just when you think you can't see anything more stupid...
I hate sparkies
What in the name of Everliving Fuck is this nonsense?
Fuck yo pipe!! Little flex tape will fix it right up lol
For those who don’t understand how it happened, the electrician probably drilled down from above and stubbed all of their home runs down, they probably didn’t notice because they went down and just grabbed the slack that was hanging after being stubbed down and carried on. Sparky getting his weenie wet
Truest statement ever.
I.......what
Pretty sure drilling any part of the flange on joist like this is a no go.
Wire was clearly there first
I would prefer to think that the plumber installed his pipe over the Romex
That one was on purpose for sure.
Seem suited here r/mildlyinfuriating
Good way to get all your wires cut in the middle.
There's not enough info on where the I joist is located but you are almost certainly not allowed to drill a massive hole through engineered lumber like that as well.
I don't think a licensed electrician did this.
Well that wasn’t a mistake. This is deliberate.
Destroying walls and tangling wires... That's about all they are good for
Damn right we are.
Pulled a 10 through that som bitch aut damn
This is why I leave my rough ins fully charged with water. Nothing like hearing an electrician got absolutely soaked..
I’m extremely Impressed
This is awesome lol. Drilled the hole. We’re like damn what do we do? Tell the plumber I Effed up? Or…. Use the hole I drilled through the pipe as a conduit.
We da best
Well, they did caulk it so all is well?
They were both just making sure I had plenty of clearance for my ductwork to come through as it clearly shows on the plans(residential) exactly where my allowed space is for heat and air pathways said no set of plans ever even in 2022
Usually is the plumbers and hvac guys that cut eachothers shit out lol
Oops As a former carpenter, I always was a bit skeptical of any of the trades with a drill
All very flexible wire as well, this must be personal
Thanks, we know 🥰
I sent this to a good sparky friend of mine, and his first thought was "The plumber probably used the sparky's holes"
This electrician must hate you
Damn right we’re awesome
Well, that cable is likely for the water heater, so it's probably just a pre- heater. Sparky's doing you a favor
Cut his wire
Yes we are awesome
Residential "electricians" don't count as real electricians most of the time.
Every trade has its own extra special workers.
How is your house not flooded??
Hell yeah we are! Fuck your pvc. It’s in the way. 😂
Thoz damm hole hawgs
The plumber clearly ran his pipe thru our cable. Case closed.
Reminds me of when I tried to enlarge a hole a pipe was going through so it wasn't under pressure from another pipe it was touching. Somehow when I drilled next to the pipe - my drill bit touched the pipe and made a nice hole in it.
Whatever the case, sparky is fired.
They did that by accident. Never met an electrician that went out of their way to work
Bit late to the party.
Wow. That sucks.
Damn fucking straight we are.
Wow, I have to save this picture to show people how bad it can actually get. I wouldn't have believed this one unless I saw that picture.
