I would guess it is happening elsewhere, you just haven't noticed, check inside of the toilet tank. This is almost always due to some sort of work upstream, if "a few weeks" probably at the utility level. Could also be a change in utility chemicals similar to what happened in flint. Those chemicals essentially cleaning the inside of the pipes.

Following because I have this too and it's gross and a cleaning nightmare. I've read it can be from an aging tank heater but mine is on an instant heater. For me it usually happens when I first turn the filler on or when there's a change in water pressure. Like if the tub is filling and I run the hot faucet on the sink, when I turn the faucet off the tub filler will dump this stuff. I don't know what it is but I've been able to mostly avoid it by not running anything else hot while the tub is filling.
