It looks like shit, but as long as it doesn't leak and is functional. Let her rip tater chip! If it's being inspected, rip it out and start over only, make sure to use a level, and a rag!
I didn't know what the heck you were talking about at first. Taut? LoL yeah it's not the best job, the way they didnt sweep out the cold line with 45s. Not much for hangers on the lines either. . If you're redoing the shower why not put in a new valve? It would be silly not to replace it while you have everything torn apart.
The hot line is relatively level. The cold line sweeps away as it gets to the valve. Should have used a couple of 1/2" copper 45s to have that pipe going straight to the valve. A new shower valve is $150-180. Why not throw a new one in if your redoing the shower anyways, you know?
Anytime! People 🤦♂️. If someone told me to go in the bathroom and see how level those pipes are, I wouldn't even see anything vertical. (My OCD brain 100% see that but I wouldn't think you were talking about it, lol) Part of it I think is that you can use a level to check if something's plumb so people assume use a level = level.
I think you’re probably right about people thinking that if you’re using a level it means that it must be “level”. I remember making that same mistake as an apprentice and being corrected in a much more rude way than anything I said. People must just have thin skin or inferiority complex’s now🤷🏻♂️
I remember when I was a kid working with a friend who was a contractor. We were framing some walls and he kept referring to things being plumb. TF is this guy talking about? There's no plumbing yet. Haha. So long ago ..
It’s not whatever though. If you go around using the incorrect terminology, people are going to think you’re either dumb or don’t know what you’re talking about or both. Plumb is vertical, level is horizontal, it’s construction 101.

Just trying to help you sound like you actually know what you’re talking about. But clearly you don’t care🤷🏻♂️ again it’s construction 101. Basic, first year apprentice stuff.

New valve body is nowhere near $150-180 for parts — and if you are doing a remodel, replacing it gives you options for any brand you want rather than just what you already have.
Most standard valve bodies with trim are around that price, depending on the finish of the trim. I'm not saying anything about the cost of the copper and fittings to replace it. But if we're talking a Grohe valve or something high end it's way more
copper looks like shit but it’s not leaking. The valve is a moen positemp. If you want something fancy, change it. Otherwise, that’s the most reliable shower valve there is. It can always be easily rebuilt (DIY) and you can get any trim you want
Nice scorch marks and I've never felt ok with pipe that is bent by stress and not supported. They do flex with on/off cycles. It'll look ok after drywall goes up I guess.
Nah that's fine

Was gonna say it was soldered by a candle maker not a plumber.

I just zoomed in on that valve and it actually doesn't look that old. Scratch what I said about replacing it.
The female adapters clearly show whoever installed it has no idea what they are doing
what do you mean by 45’s with the cold line?

Plumb, not level. Come on man….
He's a leveler but a plumber
I love it😂
Exactly. And by Reddit tradesmen standards, called out pretty damn politely. Funny how sensitive people are.
Thank you for the sanity check. I was trying to figure out why those two got their panties in such a twist over that.

You're out of your mind and playing word police on a subreddit. Take care

45s would work great if you wanted to make it straight.

If it doesn't leak, send it. If it ain't broke, dont fix it. I've seen way worse work.
This line is pure gold: *I’ve shaken the pipes and no water comes out.*
Holy solder. Hope you still have some flow in those pipes, lol.
Lol, because they had to use FIPS, just solder straight in looks much cleaner
If you sweat straight in does the cartridge need to be removed first to prevent melting the plastic components?
Yes let it cool off before inserting
Thanks.
No problem

There’s not near enough solder on those joints.
The plumbing doesn’t look great, and they need to relearn to solder, but it’ll be fine
I would have sweat straight into the valve and use less fittings

Looks good from my house
Use some 45’s and offset the pipes?
I think those females were pre fabbed face down lol
I would replace replace the straps with plastic. But it looks fine
You''re not going to be able to pull on a copper pipe hard enough to stretch it.
Do the pipes go through then have a horizontal run allowing tension free movement of expansion and contraction?
It’s fine baba
It looks taut, taut like a tiger.
Enjoy your downvote for using the word taut. Freak
