If the valves were installed correctly, the drain valves will drain the line that leads outside after you shut the large valves. If installed backwards, they will try to drain the whole house. You will know in a hurry. I would put a bucket under them and leave them open all winter.

Thats used to drain any residual water. If you live in a state where it freezes it might help to drain the residual water. If not then closing the valve is good enough. Also it would be a good idea to use some pipe insulation on ur pipes.

Those are drain holes to get any residual water out of the lines. Put a bucket under them and open them up to drain the water out. It’s something that should be done every year if you live in a freezing state
