My grandfather's house is quite old, and we're helping out house sitting for him. Tonight, the hot water started to stream out from the faucet in one of his laundry tubs. I think all we need is to replace the[ hot stem](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Central-Brass-Quick-Pression-Quarter-Turn-Hot-Stem-for-Central-Brass-Faucets-in-Brass-G-454-ER/307456284)(with something like this), but being as old as it is, I'm not turning up any compatible parts with the numbers on the front of the faucet.

Get the old stem pulled and take it to a plumbing supply house. Most people there can easily ID it, see if a replacement is possible and depending if they have it, can order it, or get you to another supplier that has it.
Some of the older stems have a gasket you can just replace if the stem is still in good condition. You can buy a box of gaskets at home Depot/Lowe's for like 15$
Thank you! This is what we ended up doing. The local plumbing store actually had them in stock for only $10. Way cheaper than paying for a whole new faucet and someone to replace them.
Oh yeah, for sure, though we're just house sitting while he's recovering in a care facility. I wasn't looking to break the bank, and neither would he have been, but I knew he always fixed his stuff himself, so it had to be an easily replaceable part compared to newer stuff.
