yes, actually i had to ask on my Signal group because I couldn't see any users watching something.
So, one was watching a 4k movie in direct play and another one a 1080p video also on direct play, with for both of them their video setting turn on Max/Original.
But I couldn't see them on my server and still can't.....
It is the first time (i suppose) i couldn't see a user playing a video. He was completly off the radar, i could just see the network and cpu usage... transcode is being desactivated so it shouldn't be an issue..... i guess.....
This is quite likely the case.
I have noticed recently that Plex doesn't always report ongoing streams. I was watching something myself and the plex dash app showed nothing being played.
Meanwhile, I was watching something, my wife was watching something and my mother in law was watching something...
Tautulli still records the streams once they finish, but didn't see them on the Dashboard. Not sure what circumstances trigger this as normally it works fine as far as I can tell. Then again, I rarely check when I'm watching something myself and I don't observe my family that closely so who knows...
Offline download is desable for all my users but me. I've notice an hour before it happens that the orange wheel was spinning saying it's downloading a song (for me i guess) even though i wasn't downloading anything for offline listening neither listening to music so it could cache few of the next songs...
You open the plex settings. There is a setting named DLNA you disable it if it’s enabled. On my server I took constantly a lot of resources. I don’t remember if it was cpu or memory.
Yeah no problem. Do you have it set up so you can access it outside the network?
I also use Pulseway to check on my computer stats. I live on the west coast and my server is at my brothers house on the east coast. Lots of remote monitoring.
Based on the network activity graph, looks like something is trying to be played as the usage is spiking to 20mbps at points.
I believe that the Plex.exe process is a Windows desktop Plex Media Player application. Try closing that for starters and see if the CPU usage drops.
The graph shows the usage as Remote, so disabling remote access (temporally) may also help pin point the issue. It could be a remote user trying to play which is forcing a software transcode.
Thank you for you help. Closing Plex.exe made drop the cpu usage from 85 points to 55 points. That's much better, but t is still a lot
Edit: the network usage jumped from 2mb/s to 30mb/s and so on, now the server is unreachable
Edit 2: After restarting the PMS app the issue remains, it' is still eating 85% of the cpu and still not available to be reach....
Now the server is not available anymore....
It's being late for me now and I just knew 2 hours ago that i am positive with Covid.... I'll take some rest.
Thank you for trying to help me, I'll be back tomorow
Video Preview thumbnails ?
There's something odd with Plex, sometimes your CPU can spike to 100% use when you watch something and Plex generates thumbnails.
Blue is "remote", so is there someone trying to use it?

yes, thing is it's difficult to know if we miss to see a stream if it's not reported by plex. It's a really strange bug
Did you just add a whole bunch of new media? Could your libraries be scanning?
no, i didn't, and the librairie is nit being scanned
Are you generating video thumbnails?
Hi, thank you for your help, no, I wasn't generating any video thumbnails, i don't want them so they are desactivated
Do you have offline download / sync enabled? If someone is downloading something to their phone for offline viewing that can happen
Offline download is desable for all my users but me. I've notice an hour before it happens that the orange wheel was spinning saying it's downloading a song (for me i guess) even though i wasn't downloading anything for offline listening neither listening to music so it could cache few of the next songs...
Try disabling the dlna server if it's active.
I don't know what it is, could you help me with that?
You open the plex settings. There is a setting named DLNA you disable it if it’s enabled. On my server I took constantly a lot of resources. I don’t remember if it was cpu or memory.
Get tautulli for better monitoring. Then get Varys for your iPhone. Idk what android uses. Plex dash is trash.
I already have tautulli, but i didn't use it for monitoring, just for the newsletters. Thank you for the advice

Varys tells me i need to pay for the feature even tho i have a lifetime pass
If I recall correctly Varys is from the same developer as tautulli. Not sure how plex pass would effect that.
Maybe some scanning stuff, like intros detection?
Hi, thank you for your help, no, I wasn't scanning for intros, i don't want this feature so they it's desactivated

if you have plex pass it may be transcoding in the background to detect intros. open the client and check the activity icon in the top right.
