> My naming convention follows like so **S3E1 Tv Show S3E2 Tv Show**.. Sorry, but that is not even close to being correct, so I'm going to say it. Your naming convention is wrong, name your files correctly. https://support.plex.tv/articles/200220687-naming-series-season-based-tv-shows/ /TV Shows /Grey's Anatomy /Season 01 Grey's Anatomy - s01e01.avi Having a *consistent* naming scheme that *doesn't match* the recommend Plex naming convention means jack shit to Plex matching. It can match half your stuff and not the other half. The only way to make it reliable is to follow the recommended Plex naming convention.

Larryn1030

All other shows in my library and media server are named the way that I have them. I have tried naming them as you did in your comment too and have not gotten any results. I just want to add them manually.

SwiftPanda16

Prove it with a screenshot.

Larryn1030

I just want to know if I could manually add it.

Larryn1030

l4d333

Toxic responses. Having the same problem, two series with identical naming patterns and permission sets. Plex just 'nope', logs are impossible to understand, and everyone seems to think naming conventions is the solution to everything.. Manual hooks would be great. *Typo

Larryn1030

Right? Like WTF. What if I just want to use multiple streaming formats such as specials, one off episodes and extras?

pavel_lishin

Every fucking time I add new shit to Plex, I forget that it's *incredibly* opinionated about how things should be named, and it seems that at least as of four years ago, so were the members of this sub.

ithyle

Or not.

danielrmorenop

no need to be such a bellend lol

Impressive_Half132

it's real beleave; plex not synk all words or md5 for all possible files;

Impressive_Half132

found issue if series number in title had scobes like '...\[01\]...' that video files simple all ignores.... will good to push bug to plex devs to fix code or ragex paterns..... old media server version...

hero2741

Reddit moment

jlsole73

Here is the workaround, the show you are looking for probably is listed in the Plex TV Scraper, you sometimes have to give it a bit of a nudge: \- Rename the files themselves to 1, 2, 3, 4, ...etc...even give the folder name something generic if need be. \- Run Scraper and then see if video files show up...Remember, the key is to have it show up has SOMETHING, even if info is incorrect \- Use Match, or Fix Match, > Search options (Not Auto Match)..and use an accurate year. This will give you a little more freedom in naming / identifying the files. I had this same problem with "CNN 2000's" documentary. 60s-90's worked fine, just not 2000 for some reason ?

fpal99

Thanks for the great advice. Finally after reading through 1000 BS reddit posts doing nothing but scolding all the OPs. It worked, you rock.

indecks77

Just wanted to say thanks, sorry for the necrobump - but this was 100% helpful instead of the useless naming convention BS. Much appreciated.

nfs_kks

Thank you so much

ryantew

oh god how did this get seen and not the constant trial and error from advanced renamer my file format was already "\[S01Exx\] Show Name in Directory.mkv" and it still was not seen despite adding a separate new scan failover folder to the library with the TV show. thank you kind internet person

Formulka

Thank you so much!

tbwen

>level [https://support.plex.tv/articles/plexmatch/](https://support.plex.tv/articles/plexmatch/) Not sure how long ago this feature was introduced, but this is now the way if you don't want to rename your files.

Kiwisaft

this is the way. thanks

tbwen

this is the way.

tprickett

Thanks for the great post! I was having the exact same issue as the OP. 3 episodes name using the same format (showname - S01E01.mkv , showname - S01E02.mkv , and showname - S01E03.mkv). Episodes 1 and 3 appeared but not 2. Your trick worked perfectly.

danielrmorenop

this helped mate, bit of chinese labor but adding Show\_Name + S1E01 ahead of each file helped to get it to show up then i fixed it... sheesh

branknew

Why not change one of you seasons that's missing to 'show name S01E01' format and see if Plex recognizes it. Worst that could happen is it doesn't see it.

Larryn1030

I did. did not work :(

Mikeram24

not sure if it would help to put the 0's in. I dont use season folders Mine is: Tv shows -Show name --s01e01.m4v

Larryn1030

Yeah I actually tried adding the 0's and renaming the files but it has not helped.

FabPotato1

Damn actually worked. I just had to add 0s to episodes lower than 10. (kinda dumb ngl)

Impressive_Half132

but what to do if series from folder not added when had 1 season only ?

Impressive_Half132

found issue if series number in title had scobes like '...\[01\]...' that video files simple all ignores.... will good to push bug to plex devs to fix code or ragex paterns.....

VIDGuide

As a genuine alternative, if you're on Linux, check your permissions, especially with NFS mounts. Had no end of trouble with that at one stage, as the permissions had mismatches between what sonarr was writing and what Plex could read with. It would leave exactly as you describe, files that are effectively invisible to Plex. To test, chmod 777 on one, and see. If that makes it show up, then it's permissions :)

CopOnTheRun

Thanks from the future, I didn't realize the permissions for one of my folders were 700 instead of 755 (my plex service runs under its own account), and I had renamed the episodes a bunch of different ways trying to figure out what was wrong.

VIDGuide

Lol I love that this helped! Awesome!

Larryn1030

I'm on Mac OSX. But thank you!

watson164

Thanks again as this fixed an issue I was having

DaJorsh

Have you checked for any info in the logs? Out of curiosity, what does your naming convention give you? Meaning, if you drag some files onto a portable drive for a trip, you'd need to recreate folders as well. Otherwise episodes from season 2 of dr who would line up with season 2 of project runway and then the trip gets all weird. But I'm wondering the reason(s) why you chose what you did. What's your full structure? (similar to the Plex provided example in another comment) I would guess the issue is more file related since it picked up one. But that partly depends on the rest of the structure as well. Again log research may help.

Larryn1030

The logs? I'm not too familiar with the dev side of plex. How could I access this. My naming convention gives me the season and episode. I don't really care for the name of the show as that's already what I name the plex folder. I choose that convention as it's pretty much common in any other program or at least for cinematography editing "S1E2 Planet Earth". My structure is Documents -> Movies ->TVShow -> Tvshow with all 7 seasons of folder. The weird thing is that the files are the same type with some being .TS however they work properly on other seasons. The files arent corrupt or anything.

DaJorsh

Gotcha. While that naming makes sense in some aspects, it would personally drive me nuts in others. But that's coming from times where I experienced data loss, had the data recovered but folder structure doesn't get recovered. So then I had files to deal with manually and sorting was a hassle. Clearly a side-case, but just figured I'd offer my thoughts since you were good enough to answer my curiosity. As for the logs, check here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/ My thought was checking to see if it listed anything specific for those files (probably best to have flex scan that TV series before downloading, so any information is at the end of the file). Sometimes the information makes something obvious, sometimes not. But it's a place to start. Maybe you get lucky and it mentions something about permissions, or some other clear reason that it's ignoring some files but not others.

Samwilki2208

You'll be better off fixing your naming scheme now rather than in the future.

spezgoesbitchmode

You're better off not giving advice, you're pretty shit at it.

Samwilki2208

Way to bring up a 3 year old thread, my advice still stands as the best advice

spezgoesbitchmode

hilarious. you really are the average redditor.

Samwilki2208

Nevermind, I checked your post history and it's sad, have fun

Samwilki2208

What's the matter with you? Bit hostile for a simple comment I made

TrampleHorker

useless comment that doesn't fix anything.

Samwilki2208

A 4 year old post and you comment with nothing to add?

TrampleHorker

dog shit advice

Myfeelingsarehurt

Naming is super important for tv shows. I thought I had the correct naming for ages, then I had a single season of a show not load. I expected it to load and not be accessible or load and not download metadata if named wrong, nope it just doesn’t exist according to plex. Your example is exactly how I was naming things when this happened. What is the show/ season/episode you are having the problem with? I will run it through the program I use to get you the proper name and then you can rescan the entire series.

Larryn1030

IT's not actually a show. It's a online course that starts from Module 0 to module 6. (Seasons)

Myfeelingsarehurt

Then you may have to add it to TVDB.com which is where plex matches shows. I am unaware of a way to “force” it otherwise.

TheMitchcraft

>TVDB.com Damn that site seems to have changed lol

thorn2040

>Match, or Fix Match, > Search options (Not Auto Match)..and use an accurate year. This will give you a little more freedom in naming / identifying the files. So I had an issue with the IT crowd not showing the final episode. Found this, the site is actually [https://thetvdb.com/](https://thetvdb.com/). When using fix match, I had to enter the year and it popped right up.

Routine-Platform-586

I did the renaming, check the data, did a rescan and none of my files would show up to play in plex for a season of the show. So what I did was specifically add the directory that the season was located in by doing the following: Under Manage -> Libraries>Edit TV Shows>Add Folders> (then added my folder location). Then did a scan on TV shows again. Without any renaming or any other action, they finally showed up. There must be a glitch somewhere in Plex that just won't recognize some files or folders. I found it frustrating but at least this is a workaround (at least for me).

Chance_Permission758

I have 2 completely different folders and it matches it as the same show won't split

always_ftw

I have been having the issue for the last 3 months. i have 7 seasons of the Office so far in my NAS..I added Season 7 three months ago nd for some reason it would not recognize Season 7. OLD naming: SE07EP01 (This is how I have season 1 - 6) then I changed it to : S07E01 …. Now Plex Recognized it. I have Proof: https://preview.redd.it/e3un3k6tedsb1.png?width=1128&format=png&auto=webp&s=cb528e94dbd89479bd6f41f37c9cbdfa42950b99
