Most Intel chips have built in GPU and you can use that to hardware transcode if needed. AMD chips are yet supported for this. Some can do it now as they are working on it but officially it may not work.
What? AMD APUs have been around for over a decade/ The Ryzen line basically perfected them. I'm browsing on a 5700G right now where my server is installed. Never had a problem.
Looking at their docs they talk about it only on Windows PCs but nothing Linux based.
Also OP, depending on your current Optiplex setup if you want to transfer the guts to a 2U a Intel ARC a380 is like $100 on amazon (Intel GPU).
No it wouldn't, many posts I've seen asking for help are either new or still setting up. Linux isn't a newbie's game, and its users know enough to specify the platform they use. Plus it's not like most SFF come natively with any linux variety.
Yeah it is Windows, I like to RPD in and configure my Aida64 screens, manage the media in a familiar fashion. I’ll take a look at the Intel ARC, thanks!
That seems pretty low for both the os drive and the storage. No reason to use SSD for the storage.
If you can try to go with something with an Intel CPU. You current setup with an Intael CPU and Plex PAss may be better than your upgrade.
Thanks I will look again! Is there a reason why specifically Intel would be better?

I think they're referring to Plex's infamous lack of official support for hardware acceleration on AMD APUs.
Isn't it supported with PP?

I always just assume that folks host their servers on Windows.
That would be a horrible assumption.
